تغيير الخلق" عِلّةً لتحريم التعديلات على الجينوم - دراسة نقدية- Change Of Human Shape As A Reason For Prohibiting Genome Modification - A Critical Study, Ayman Saleh
Jordan Journal of Islamic Studies
Many scholars of Islamic jurisprudence argue that all changes to the human form, particularly elective cosmetic surgeries, are banned because they amount to “altering God's creation.” This argument has been generalized to deem genetic modification in humans forbidden. Using the framework of Islamic jurisprudence,5 the present paper aims to refute this argument and its underlying evidence. The paper argues that genetic modifications to reproductive and non-reproductive cells are permissible in Islam, but only within the general restrictions of Islamic jurisprudence. The most significant of these restrictions is that the harm incurred by such modifications should not outweigh their benefits.

The banking services is considered to be one of the most important banking activities, and this importance is increased when we consider that the customers recognize the services as the frontal face of the bank. The customers measure the quality of the bank through the quality of its services. Banking services in Islamic banks are more sensitive given that Islamic banking is characterized by special risks that are clearly reflected in the concept of banking services. A Heavy Rain Has Fallen Upon My People: Sindhi Sufi Poetry Performance, Emotion, And Islamic Knowledge In Kachchh, Gujarat, Brian E. Bond
Dissertations, Theses, and Capstone Projects
This dissertation is a study of the use and contestation of Sindhi-language Sufi poetry performance as a means of Islamic knowledge transmission and ethical self-formation in rural Muslim communities in Kachchh, a border district in the western Indian state of Gujarat adjacent to Sindh, Pakistan. Drawing on eighteen months of ethnographic research with Muslim performers and enthusiasts of Sindhi poetry between 2014-2018, I first examine an ecology of performative and interpretive practices revolving around the musico-poetic repertoire of the poet-saint Shāh ʿAbdul Lat̤īf Bhiṭā’ī (1689-1752 CE). I argue that the pedagogical efficacy of Sufi poetry performance is undergirded by its …

Mandative Subjunctive In Arabic Syntax: A Minimalist Study, Atef Jalabneh
Mandative Subjunctive In Arabic Syntax: A Minimalist Study, Atef Jalabneh
Al-Balqa Journal for Research and Studies البلقاء للبحوث والدراسات
An Arabic sentence is dealt with in this article as SVO at spell-out and VSO at the logical form (LF). Thus, the objective of this study is to check the grammaticality of the mandative subjunctive structure in the absence of a case assignor for the nominative case. It also checks the relevant syntactic and semantic formal and informal features that support the grammaticality of mandative subjunctive at LF. To achieve the objectives, the researcher refers to Chomsky’ s (1981, 1986a, 1986b and 1995) Minimalist Views and Radford’ s (1988) Empty Tense Theory. The problem is to find out the actual …
Decadent Orientalisms: The Decay Of Colonial Modernity [Table Of Contents], David Fieni
Decadent Orientalisms: The Decay Of Colonial Modernity [Table Of Contents], David Fieni
Literature
Decadent Orientalisms presents a sustained critique of the ways Orientalism and decadence have formed a joint discursive mode of the imperial imagination. Attentive to historical and literary configurations of language, race, religion, and power, Fieni shows the importance of understanding Western discourses of Eastern decline and obsolescence together with Arab and Islamic responses in which the language of decadence returns as a characteristic of the West.
Taking seriously Edward Said’s claim that Orientalism is a “style of having power,” Fieni works historically through the aesthetic and ideological effects of Orientalist style, showing how it is at once comparative, descriptive, and …

The End From The Beginning, Daniel C. Peterson
The End From The Beginning, Daniel C. Peterson
Interpreter: A Journal of Latter-day Saint Faith and Scholarship
We are often at the dubious mercy of people, forces, and events that are beyond our control. But a trust in Providence — a word that is used relatively seldom these days for power that transcends even those people, forces, and events and that can, in the end, overrule them for our good — can nonetheless give us serene confidence. That such providential power exists, that it is personal and caring, is one of the fundamental messages of the scriptures and the prophets.
Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, …
