Types And Causes Of Physiological Injury In Piano Playing, With Emphasis On Piano Pedagogy In China, Ruixi Niu Jan 2020

Types And Causes Of Physiological Injury In Piano Playing, With Emphasis On Piano Pedagogy In China, Ruixi Niu

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)

Among musicians who seek medical help for their injuries each year, half are pianists. Improper playing technique is a factor influencing the development of injury. This research project focuses on the types and causes of physiological injury in the process of piano playing and includes methods of avoiding such injuries.

The types of piano-related physiological injury and associated conditions that are discussed include tenosynovitis, focal dystonia, and muscle pain. Relevant literature and investigative data—and some legends—are compared and sorted. Chinese pedagogical views concerning piano technique are discussed, along with ongoing debates concerning injury prevention and the appropriate use of exercises …

A Comparative Study On The Monovalent And Divalent Cation Separation Of Polymeric Films And Membranes From Salt Solutions Under Diffusion-Dialysis, Serkan Acar, Hacer Yeşi̇m Cengi̇z, Ayça Ergün, Eymen Konyali, Hüseyi̇n Deli̇göz

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

This study deals with selective separation of mono- and divalent cations from aqueous salt solutions using polymeric films based on polyethylene (PE) and polyamide6 (PA6), and two different commercial nanofiltration (NF) membranes. The diffusion rates (D) of ions (Na$^{+}$ and Ca$^{2+})$, separation factors ($\alpha )$ and ion rejections (R) of the films and NF membranes are examined comparatively as well as their surface morphology and hydrophilicity. It is observed that the diffusion rates of Na$^{+}$are in the range of 0.7-1.8 $\times $ 10$^{-8}$cm$^{2}$.s$^{-1\, }$in the decreasing order of PE $>$ NF90 $>$ NF270 $>$ PA6 while Ca$^{2+\, …

Evaluation Of Lead (Pb(Ii)) Removal Potential Of Biochar In A Fixed-Bed Continuous Flow Adsorption System, Pushpita Kumkum, Sandeep Kumar Jan 2020

Evaluation Of Lead (Pb(Ii)) Removal Potential Of Biochar In A Fixed-Bed Continuous Flow Adsorption System, Pushpita Kumkum, Sandeep Kumar

Civil & Environmental Engineering Faculty Publications

Background. Lead (Pb(II)) exposure from drinking water consumption is a serious concern due to its negative health effect on human physiology. A commercially available filter uses the adsorption potential of activated carbon for removing heavy metals like Pb(II). However, it has some constraints since it uses only surface area for the adsorption of these contaminants. Biochar produced via slow pyrolysis of biomass shows the presence of oxygen-containing functional groups on its surface that take part in the adsorption process, with higher removal potential compared to activated carbon.

Objectives. The current study examined the adsorption kinetics and mechanisms of Pb(II) removing …

Research outputs 2014 to 2021

Background: Australia, like other nations, has experienced a shift in dietary patterns away from home cooking of nutritious foods, towards a reliance on pre-prepared convenience meals. These are typically energy-dense, nutrient-poor and contribute to the rising prevalence of obesity and chronic disease burden. The aims of this study were to evaluate whether a community-based cooking program instigated a change to participants’ skills, attitudes, knowledge, enjoyment and satisfaction of cooking and cooking confidence (self-efficacy). Methods: The pseudo-random, pre-post study design consisted of an intervention and a control group. Participant recruitment and group allocation was based on their program start dates. Intervention …

Application Of High Performance Training Strategies To Enhance Occupational Readiness In Law Enforcement Cadets, Gabriel Jose Martinez Jan 2020

Application Of High Performance Training Strategies To Enhance Occupational Readiness In Law Enforcement Cadets, Gabriel Jose Martinez

Theses and Dissertations--Kinesiology and Health Promotion

Law enforcement requires cadets to achieve a requisite level of physical fitness to prepare for occupational demands. However, there is limited research on the effectiveness of academy exercise programs to optimize physical fitness and occupational physical ability through high performance training strategies more typically utilized in elite athletic populations. Furthermore, there is a paucity of research identifying physical fitness correlates of occupational performance. Collectively, this information will provide academies and practitioners with critical information to develop evidence-based training programs. Therefore, the purposes of this study were to: Aim 1) Examine the effectiveness of integrating autoregulatory progressive resistance exercise (APRE) and …
