Inequality, Living Standards And Growth: Two Centuries Of Economic Development In Mexico, Ingrid Bleynat, Amilcar Challú, Paul Segal

History Faculty Publications

Historical wage and incomes data are informative both as normative measures of living standards, and as indicators of patterns of economic development. We show that, given limited historical data, median incomes are most appropriate for measuring welfare and inequality, while urban unskilled wages can be used to test dualist models of development. We present a new dataset including both series in Mexico from 1800 to 2015 and find that both have historically failed to keep up with aggregate growth: per worker GDP is now over eight times higher than in the nineteenth century, while unskilled urban real wages are only …

Occupational Radiation Exposure Health Risks And Radiation Safety Practices Relative To Interventional Cardiology Providers, Brandon Young

Theses and Graduate Projects

Background: Occupational radiation exposure is a health risk for many healthcare professionals working in interventional cardiology. As technology has progressed, interventional procedures have become more complex and subsequently longer in radiation exposure duration, resulting in a need for radiation safety practices to meet the ever growing demands of the interventional team and ideally outpace these demands.

Methods: A comprehensive systematic literature review was conducted using PubMed. Articles on the health risks of occupational radiation exposure were selected to demonstrate the breadth of potential adverse effects of radiation exposure with less focus on the depth of these effects. Articles covering occupational …

Eco-Critique And Thought As A Force Of Nature, Stephanie Erev

Political Science Faculty Publications and Presentations

It occurred to me not long ago that each time I read something new I pay special attention, without really meaning to, to how the work projects forward into a future or futures. This has been going on, I now think, for some years. Perhaps this quasi-conscious reading practice has played a part in the recalibration of my own orientations to the future, which, with every new climatic event, seem to grow dizzier and more disorganized, feeling some of the time like players in a game of musical chairs. Whether it is in relation to “All Around the Mulberry Bush” …

Fem Or Foe?: Non-Communal Women Who Report Sexual Harassment Receive Fewer Career Advancement Opportunities, Katherine A. Werth, Larry R. Martinez, Heather A. Firestone, Timothy A. Carsey

University Honors Theses

Sexual harassment is an ever-important topic to organizations, but there is currently a gap in the literature regarding career outcomes for women who report sexual harassment. Past research has discovered that masculine women get harassed more than feminine women and that masculine women have a better chance at career advancement opportunities than feminine women, but there has yet to be any focus on how the gender personality of a sexual harassment survivor relates to organizational success after a sexual harassment report. This study aims to help address this gap by drawing from the stereotype content model (Cuddy, Glick & Fiske, …

A Foundational "Survival Guide" Overview Of Sports-Related Head Injuries, Frank De Stefano, Brian Fiani, Tim Mayo Nov 2020

A Foundational "Survival Guide" Overview Of Sports-Related Head Injuries, Frank De Stefano, Brian Fiani, Tim Mayo

Student Publications

Around 3.8 million traumatic brain injuries (TBI) occur every year from athletic participation. The signs and symptoms of each specific head injury can be difficult to delineate. Further, treatment for each injury varies significantly. While most sports-related head injuries are not life-threatening, prompt recognition of acute head injury with expedited care leads to better outcomes. Current medical education lacks in awareness of common sports-related head injuries and the acute management of these injuries. Due to this, a literature review was originally crafted to provide medical students with a brief education in the recognition, diagnosis, and acute management of sports-related head …

In the study, we explored the perception and experiences of teacher towards problem in students with ADHD and how teachers handle the problem in school. We conducted case study using semi-structured interview with purposive sampling technique for 38 elementary school teachers in Indonesia. We found that …

Atrial Tachycardia Associated With A Tachycardia-Induced Cardiomyopathy In A Patient With Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, Faryal Subhani, Intisar Ahmed, Adil A. Manji, Yawer Saeed

Section of Cardiology

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease that involves multiple organ systems. Cardiovascular involvement in SLE is well described in the literature. Cardiac arrhythmias associated with SLE include sinus tachycardia, atrial fibrillation, and atrial ectopy or atrial tachycardia. In this report, we present the case of a patient with SLE who was found to have focal atrial tachycardia that mimicked sinus tachycardia on a 12-lead electrocardiogram (ECG). She was inappropriately treated as a case of sinus tachycardia initially. But she did not respond to the treatment and developed tachycardia-induced cardiomyopathy despite being on antiarrhythmic medications. She subsequently underwent successful …
