A Lake Divided: Regional Shifts In Trophic Niche Structure Of Lake Powell Fishes Corresponding To The Invasion Of Quagga Mussels, Nathan Richard St Andre Dec 2020

A Lake Divided: Regional Shifts In Trophic Niche Structure Of Lake Powell Fishes Corresponding To The Invasion Of Quagga Mussels, Nathan Richard St Andre

Theses and Dissertations

Introduced species can become invasive and cause catastrophic alterations to the system they invade. Both zebra mussels (Dreissena polymorpha) and quagga mussels (Dreissena bugensis) have caused significant ecosystem alterations wherever they have invaded. These Dreissena species have caused changes in water quality and biodiversity and have disrupted energy pathways which can have cascading effects on other trophic levels. Recently quagga mussels invaded Lake Powell, a reservoir located in the southwestern USA, creating the possibility of a trophic cascade that could alter energy flow in the reservoir and change the trophic niche structure of the fishes in the lake. However, due …

Kind King Or Tyrannical Ruler? An Analysis Of Hilary Mantel’S Henry Viii In Wolf Hall And Bringing Up The Bodies, Amanda S. Nicholson

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Henry VIII (28 June 1491 – 28 January 1547) served as King of England from 1509 until his death in 1547. A melancholic character, Henry was known for his many marriages, his temper, his bouts of tyranny, and his break with the Catholic Church. Most authors, even those writing contemporary accounts, portray Henry as a villain. Hilary Mantel paints Henry differently. In Wolf Hall and Bringing up the Bodies, the King is as he has always been; argumentative, sardonic, and excessive. However, Mantel chooses to augment these parts of his character with some of his better traits, giving the …

Proactive Management In Academic Libraries: Promoting Improved Communication And Inclusion Of Academic Librarians And Archivists In Cybersecurity Policy Creation, Paul J. Luft

Theses and Dissertations

Although increasing cybersecurity threats continue in libraries, not many studies are available which examine surrounding cybersecurity policies. Even less has been done on specific types of libraries such as academic and archives. When it comes to academic libraries, cybersecurity policies take a top-down approach to managing and creating policies. The problem is that both academic libraries and archives are unique areas within a university setting. Some of the general policies do not always handle specific issues dealt with in an academic library or archives. This paper investigates if an actual gap or void in policy exists which could create issues …

What's Going On With The Spine? Evaluation Of Alternative Sensorimotor Degeneration Post-Stroke, Sravani Mannuru, Sarvani Uppati, Kelsey Baker Dec 2020

What's Going On With The Spine? Evaluation Of Alternative Sensorimotor Degeneration Post-Stroke, Sravani Mannuru, Sarvani Uppati, Kelsey Baker

MEDI 9331 Scholarly Activities Clinical Years

Stroke is a leading cause of long-term disability in the United States. Previous research has shown a strong correlation between damage to the corticospinal tract (CST) and motor deficits in post-stroke patients. However, recent research suggests that other sensorimotor pathways (rubrospinal tract, medial reticulospinal tract) are damaged after stroke and may also contribute to motor dysfunction. Here, we will review current research suggesting that alternate sensorimotor pathways are involved in post-stroke motor dysfunction and outline possible avenues for future research.

Non-Prescription Sale Of Syringes In Monterey County, Ruby Ramos Godoy

Capstone Projects and Master's Theses

I have interned for the Monterey County Health Department in the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) Prevention Program. My capstone project focuses on a community problem targeting high HIV and Hepatitis C (HCV) transmission rates in Monterey County. There are high HIV and HCV rates among injection drug users (IDUs), and many of our community members may partake in these harmful activities. The cause of these high HIV and HCV rates is because there are limited amounts of pharmacies selling syringes without a prescription, which then causes the high HIV and HCV rates among injection drug users and low life expectancy …

Keeping kids healthy has always been a challenging task due to a plethora of reasons, but leaders in education have been doing their best to overcome this obstacle. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic has made this challenge even greater. It has been more difficult to make an impact on student health because of distance learning. Healthy food programs and physical activity in school have been harder to reach, and because of this second Stay-At-Home order in California, it may now be a further reach. The focus of this capstone is on how students are taking care of their physical health through …

Raising Awareness On Lgbtq+ And Addiction, Carina Villasenor Dec 2020

Raising Awareness On Lgbtq+ And Addiction, Carina Villasenor

Capstone Projects and Master's Theses

Often, adults in recovery may have limited understanding of the LGBTQ+ community and how sexual minority status may relate to drug addiction. It becomes a struggle when individuals lack awareness because one may not realize the negative effects it has on those who have struggled or are struggling with coming out which may lead to substance abuse, as well. To address the limited understanding, I created a 3-session curriculum about drug use and some obstacles that members of the LGBTQ+ community face.
