Creating Order Out Of Chaos? Development Of A Measure Of Perceived Effects Of Communication On The Crisis Organizing Process, Ryan Patrick Fuller, Andrew S. Pyle, Laura Riolli, Amy Mickel Dec 2020

Creating Order Out Of Chaos? Development Of A Measure Of Perceived Effects Of Communication On The Crisis Organizing Process, Ryan Patrick Fuller, Andrew S. Pyle, Laura Riolli, Amy Mickel

Publications

Organizations are important sources of communication during natural-hazard crises. How members of an organization perceive these communications (e.g., creating confusion, causing disorder, providing clarity, and restoring order) influences response and recovery from such a crisis. Using Chaos Theory as a guiding framework, the authors developed a new instrument measuring the perceived effects of an organization’s communication on crisis-organizing processes. Three distinct studies were conducted to assess the reliability and validity of this new instrument: the “Perceived Effects of Communication on the Crisis-organizing Process (PEC-COP)” scale. This one-factor scale can be used by both scholars and practitioners to assess the effects …

Neuromuscular Response To A Single Session Of Whole-Body Vibration In Children With Cerebral Palsy: A Pilot Study, Huaqing (Virginia) Liang, Gena Henderson, Jianhua Wu

Physical Therapy Faculty Research

Background Whole-body vibration (WBV) is a relative new intervention paradigm that could reduce spasticity and improve motor function in children with cerebral palsy (CP). We investigated neuromuscular response to a single session of side-alternating WBV with different amplitudes in children with CP.

Methods Ten children with spastic CP aged 7–17 years at GMFCS level I-III participated in this pilot study. Participants received two sessions of side-alternating WBV with the same frequency (20 Hz) but different amplitudes (low-amplitude: 1 mm and high-amplitude: 2 mm). Each session included six sets of 90 s of WBV and 90 s of rest. Before and …

Developing An Interdisciplinary Team Checklist To Assess Readiness For Appropriate Medical Removal Of Central Venous Catheter (Cvc), Miranda Harper

Doctoral Projects

Healthcare-associated infections are not a new concept in health care. Many different health-care-associated infections have been established over the years including but not limited to healthcare-associated pneumonia, catheter-associated urinary tract infection, and central line-associated bacterial infection. While these infections are common in healthcare facilities, the rates of these infections are still prevalent in hospitals across the United States. This DNP project focused on central line-associated bacterial infections.

An interdisciplinary team checklist to assess readiness for appropriate medical removal of central venous catheter (CVC) was developed to assess intensive care unit patients for early appropriate medical CVC removal. The interdisciplinary team …

Pediatric Emergence Agitation: Best Practice Guideline For Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists, Michael Cockrell Dec 2020

Pediatric Emergence Agitation: Best Practice Guideline For Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists, Michael Cockrell

Doctoral Projects

The adverse effects of general anesthesia can vary significantly among groups of individuals. The pediatric population is no exception. Pediatric emergence agitation is a potential adverse effect observed following emergence from general anesthesia. The negative impacts from this adverse effect have the potential to decrease patient satisfaction, increased the cost of care, and increase the risk of post-operative complications. The exact etiology of pediatric emergence agitation remains unclear; however, it is thought to be multifactorial (Hoch, 2019). A targeted review of the current literature suggests a reduction in the incidence of pediatric emergence agitation could be achieved through alterations in …

The Religious Freedom Restoration Act, Trinity Lutheran, And Trumpism: Codifying Fiction With Administrative Gaslighting, Robin S. Maril Dec 2020

The Religious Freedom Restoration Act, Trinity Lutheran, And Trumpism: Codifying Fiction With Administrative Gaslighting, Robin S. Maril

Northwestern Journal of Law & Social Policy

This article addresses the Trump administration’s consistent misinterpretation and misapplication of legal precedent to support unnecessary religious exemptions that exceed Constitutional mandates and impair the rights of third parties to access federal services and programs. Proponents of this routinized repeal of civil rights protections argue that the Trump administration is merely restoring the correct balance of religious liberties in the federal government. However, the regulations and policies included in this campaign unconstitutionally broaden the already robust religious protections provided by statutes and court decisions and have the effect of dismantling the civil rights infrastructure of the past 50 years.

Combating Human Trafficking Crimes - A Study In The Distributions Of The United Arab Emirates, Dr. Emadeldin Mohamed Kammel Abdulhamed

Faculty Peer-Reviewed Papers | بحوث هيئة التدريس المحكمة

Human trafficking is as old as humanity itself. Slavery has been known throughout all stages of human history. Human trafficking was a legitimate, public trade, and there were even laws regulating it. Throughout its long history, humanity has encountered many human rights violations under the name of this black trade whose commodity is man, a commodity that is traded across international borders without the slightest regard for his rights, freedoms, and the sanctity of his body, until the human conscience rose to a civilized horizon. Anti-slavery movements began in the late nineteenth century, and declarations were issued to abolish it. …

Struggling Student Teachers: Interventions For Support And Success, Sheree Moser

Department of Teaching, Learning, and Teacher Education: Theses and Other Student Research

Teacher shortages in K-12 schools have created unique challenges for teacher preparation programs. University instructors face the task requirements of supporting candidates from a wide variety of backgrounds at the undergraduate and graduate level. While some of these candidates enter higher education programs skilled, eager, and committed, others are less prepared, requiring significant attention to make it through the program. Exams required by state departments of education and minimum grade point averages influence each candidate’s ability to move forward within the program, causing some students to experience additional struggles related to mental health and financial burdens.

The problem of practice …

La Peste Y El Distanciamiento En "El Ganso De Oro" De Lope De Vega, Christopher C. Oechler

Spanish Faculty Publications

Despite presenting a widespread threat during the Golden Age, the plague was rarely dramatized in comedias. Lope de Vega’s El ganso de oro serves as a notable exception to this general trend. With its blending of genres, from the pastoral to the palatial with a strong dose of magic, the play provides insight into life during such a time of pestilence. The current COVID-19 health crisis suggests a new reading of the work, which has previously suffered from a lack of critical attention. This article reviews the key role of the plague in El ganso de oro to highlight its …

Molybdenum Cofactor Deficiency Causing Neonatal Seizures And Global Developmental Delay, Sundal Aziz, Javeria Raza Alvi, Tipu Sultan

Pakistan Journal of Neurological Sciences (PJNS)

ABSTRACT: Molybdenum cofactor deficiency is a rare degenerative brain disorder with autosomal recessive inheritance. It presents early in neonatal life with seizures, feeding difficulty and spasticity, sometimes misdiagnosed as neonatal hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy. Neuroimaging findings are consistent with loss of white matter and volume along with cystic encephalomalacic changes. Most of the patients have mutations in the MOCS1 and MOCS2 genes causing imbalance in the sulfur-containing amino acid metabolism leading to progressive neurological damage and early childhood death in majority of cases. We report a case of a 7 months old child, product of non-consanguineous marriage with history of neonatal …
