Molecular Mechanism Of Cyanobacteria Circadian Clock Oscillator And Effect Of Co Factors On Its Oscillation, Manpreet Kaur
Molecular Mechanism Of Cyanobacteria Circadian Clock Oscillator And Effect Of Co Factors On Its Oscillation, Manpreet Kaur
Dissertations
The circadian rhythms arise as an adaptation to the environmental 24-hour day and night cycle due to Earth's rotation. These rhythms prepare organisms to align their internal biological activities and day to day behavior or events with the environmental change of the 24-hour day and night cycle. Circadian rhythms are found widely in all living kingdoms of life on Earth. Cyanobacteria are photosynthetic prokaryotes which first used to study these circadian rhythms. Among cyanobacterial species, Synechococcus elongatus PCC 7942 (henceforth, S. Elongatus) is the simplest organism with a durable and sturdy circadian clock and is study as a model organism. …

High-Speed Rail Safety Analysis Based On Dual-Weighted Complex Network, Liu Lv
High-Speed Rail Safety Analysis Based On Dual-Weighted Complex Network, Liu Lv
Dissertations
This study uses a complex network model to analyze the causes of accidents in high-speed railway operations. By identifying the key factors that led to high-speed railway accidents, hidden safety hazards were discovered. This will help improve the operational safety of the U.S. high-speed rail line under construction.
The analysis uses the regional high-speed railway network in Guangzhou, China as a case study, including the railway (including high-speed railway) accidents that occurred in the company's jurisdiction from 2013 to 2017. With comparative analysis between general railways and high-speed railways, the changes of high-speed railway safety factors are explored. Data analysis …
The Aging And Impacts Of Atmospheric Soot: Closing The Gap Between Experiments And Models, Ogochukwu Yvonne Enekwizu
The Aging And Impacts Of Atmospheric Soot: Closing The Gap Between Experiments And Models, Ogochukwu Yvonne Enekwizu
Dissertations
The main goal of this dissertation is to generate data and parameterizations to accurately represent soot aerosols in atmospheric models. Soot from incomplete combustion of fossil fuels and biomass burning is a major air pollutant and a significant contributor to climate warming. The environmental impacts of soot are strongly dependent on the particle morphology and mixing state, which evolve continuously during atmospheric transport via a process known as aging. To make predictions of soot impacts on the environment, most atmospheric models adopt simplifications of particle structure and mixing state, which lead to substantial uncertainties. Using an experimentally constrained modeling approach, …

The millennial generation emerges in the era of advanced technology. The characters of the generation tend to have advanced knowledge of both technology and information. This convenience, spreading information easily, causes difficulty identifying whether or not the news is factual. Media literacy is necessary for millennials considering this generation is familiar with modern technology. Data are collected through observations and in-depth interviews. The analysis results that spreading Hoax via group chat is capable of anyone, including close and trusted family members. To prevent the act of disseminating Hoax in family and sibling, thus, a family member has an important role …

Rehabilitation Practice and Science
Plantar fasciopathy is a common problem in the general population involving the proximal area of the central cord of the plantar aponeurosis. Few studies have discussed plantar fasciopathy distal to the calcaneus. In article reviewarticles, plantar fasciopathy distal to the calcaneus occurred in only 12% of the cases. In the casereport, including two cases in which fasciopathy were involved in the central part of the plantar fascia, the incidence was obviously less than that mentioned above. These two cases were atypical diseases of plantar fasciopathy over the plantar arch. They both received one to several sessions of prolotherapy, but no …

The Social Media has emerged as a new platform for discourses. It has no doubt provided people with easier and faster accessibility to information and has become an outlet for them to share their views on socio-political issues. It has also been observed that negative and hate comments seem to dominate on social networks used for social and political communication. Anchored on Public Sphere Theory, focus group discussions were conducted with undergraduate youths in South-east Nigeria examined on the issue of President Mohammadu Buhari's referring to Nigerian youths as lazy, while speaking at the Commonwealth Business Forum in Westminster on …

When Culture And Change Collide In Higher Education: A Case Study At One University, Steven A. Petersen, Susan M. Bartel
Administrative Issues Journal
Leaders in higher education regularly find themselves at the intersection of change, torn between their institution’s history and culture, the intrinsic value of education, market needs, and the desires of alumni, current, and prospective students. Higher education is often labeled reluctant to change, and many believe any change initiative not aligned with the institution’s culture is almost certain to fail. This study provides evidence that leaders in higher education can implement change that is incongruent with organizational culture while maintaining harmony among the institution’s ideals and constituents. University X, a medium-sized, highly regarded public institution located in a rural area, …

Objectives: Microvascular dysfunction in skeletal muscle is involved in metabolic and vascular diseases. Microvascular endothelial cells (MEC) are poorly characterized in the progression of associated diseases in part due to lack of availability of MEC from various animal models. The objective was to provide a fast, simple, and efficient method to isolate murine MEC derived from skeletal muscle. Methods: Dissected abdominal skeletal muscles from C57BL/6J mice at 8 - 12 weeks of age were enzymatically dissociated. MEC were isolated using a modified two-step Dynabeads™-based purification method. With a combination of Dynabeads™ - Griffonia simplicifolia lectin-I and Dynabeads™ - monoclonal antibody …
