Digital Cultural Heritage And Rural Landscapes: Preserving The Histories Of Landscape Conservation In The United States, Sarah Karle, Richard Carman
Digital Cultural Heritage And Rural Landscapes: Preserving The Histories Of Landscape Conservation In The United States, Sarah Karle, Richard Carman
Landscape Architecture Program: Faculty Scholarly and Creative Activity
Due to the size and scope of rural landscapes, large-scale documentation methods are critical to advancing landscape conservation and preservation initiatives. Using an in-progress online project to document a 1935 US federally sponsored program, the Prairie States Forestry Project (PSFP), the authors show how diverse visual and textual data can be spatialised to construct a map reading of landscape change over time. To date, the PSFP is one of the largest afforestation projects in the history of the United States; the United States Forest Service and thousands of landowners undertook a series of cooperative planting agreements to plant over 200 …

Regional Development: Challenges, Methods, And Models, Randall W. Jackson, Geoffrey J.D. Hewings, Serge Rey, Nancy Lozano-Gracia
Web Book of Regional Science
This Web Book reviews the challenges that the consideration of regions brings into economic analysis and provide an overview of some of the key methods and tools that can be used to gain a better understanding of how regional economies work, and through that, identify both the challenges and opportunities that they face. The exploration of these challenges begins with some consideration of the ways in which regional economies work to set the stage for subsequent sections that summarize a toolbox of methods and strategies that might be considered for evaluation of regional development initiatives. In contrast to past reviews …
Industrial And Regional Clusters: Concepts And Comparative Applications, 2nd Ed., Edward M. Bergman, Edward J. Feser
Industrial And Regional Clusters: Concepts And Comparative Applications, 2nd Ed., Edward M. Bergman, Edward J. Feser
Web Book of Regional Science
Industry clusters refer to the tight connections that bind certain firms and industries together in various aspects of common behavior, e.g., geographic location, sources of innovation, shared suppliers and factors of production, and so forth. Industry cluster concepts date from the last century, but they have captured the imagination of active policymakers and the serious attention of scholars only in the last decade of this century. Because clustering behavior is such a pervasive aspect of modern economies and global trade, it draws the attention of many different disciplines and benefits from their scholarship. Although a consideration of research on this …
Regional Impact Models, William A. Schaffer
Regional Impact Models, William A. Schaffer
Web Book of Regional Science
This survey of regional input-output models and their use in impact analysis evolved from over twenty years of experience in constructing regional economic models and in teaching about them. Its objectives are to present this family of models in an easily understood format, to show that the models we use in economics are well-structured, and to provide a basis for understanding applications of these models in impact analysis. The models are presented in such a way that understanding the logic and algebra of the simplest economic-base model leads to an understanding of the only slightly more complex regional and interregional …

Regional Input-Output Analysis, Geoffrey J. D. Hewings
Regional Input-Output Analysis, Geoffrey J. D. Hewings
Web Book of Regional Science
Input-output analysis is a method by which the flow of production can be traced among the various sectors of the economy, through to final demand or export. The most fundamental problem of input-output analysis is to calculate the necessary output levels of each industry required to achieve a final output. What is the effect upon the local economy from the introduction of a new firm? What are the economic linkages between regions and how is equilibrium between regions achieved? What if the supply of an input in one region becomes restricted through some bottleneck? Input-output analysis can be used to …

Regions In Changing Economic Environment, Gennadi Kazakevitch, Sharn Enzinger
Web Book of Regional Science
The purpose of this Web Book is to consider economic change from a regional perspective. We focus on two groups of changes: microeconomic restructuring and fiscal reforms. A two region – two product model is used to illustrate the theoretical concepts discussed. The objective is to determine the impact of a particular reform upon regional expenditure patterns and, therefore upon the socio-economic situation in the region.

Garifunizando Ambas Américas: Hemispheric Entanglements Of Blackness/Indigeneity/Afrolatinidad, Paul Joseph López Oro
Africana Studies: Faculty Publications
Central Americans of African descent are in the margins on the histories of transmigrations and political movements in the isthmus and their diasporas. The absence of Black Central Americans in Latinx Studies and Central American Studies is an epistemological violence inherited from Latin American mestizaje. The insurgence of Afro-Latinx Studies is an intellectual and political response to the erasure and negation of Black people and Blackness in the field of Latinx Studies. In this essay, I map out the political urgency to call for a refashioning of Afrolatinidad that dismantles the dangerous allure of ethno-racial nationalism (i.e., Afro-[insert nation-state]) and …

In the early 1990s, Dr. O.L. Davis of the University of Texas at Austin sought evacuee teacher and student recollections in England during World War II. The overarching purpose for Davis was to gain an understanding of the effect on schooling and education, specifically as it relates to the curriculum for students. This article continues where he left off and places focus on teacher evacuees. Of the several hundred responses from student evacuees, we utilized ten of the thirty teacher evacuees who responded to Dr. Davis. The purpose in this research endeavor seeks to discover the impact evacuations in England …
Rationing The Constitution Vs. Negotiating It: Coan, Mud, And Crystals In The Context Of Dual Sovereignty, Erin Ryan
Scholarly Publications
In RATIONING THE CONSTITUTION: HOW JUDICIAL CAPACITY SHAPES SUPREME DECISION-MAKING, Professor Andrew Coan makes the provocative argument that judicial capacity is the most determinative factor in the Supreme Court’s constitutional interpretation, especially regarding such critical realms as equal protection, takings, and the separation of powers. He contends that the Court’s legitimate anxiety over managing workflow to the federal bench operates more powerfully to shape its responses to questions raised in these areas of law than any alternative theory of constitutional interpretation, including doctrinal models popular most among legal academics and strategic models more popular among political scientists. Some readers will …
Gender Differences And New Venture Performance, Mayank Jaiswal
Gender Differences And New Venture Performance, Mayank Jaiswal
New England Journal of Entrepreneurship
Purpose – This study compares the performance of female majority-owned new ventures (FNV) vs. male majority-owned new ventures (MNV). It analyzes the differences in levels of variables such as education, the same industry work experience of owners, and other venture level attributes between FNVs and MNVs. More importantly, this study employs decomposition techniques to determine the individual contribution from the intergender difference of each attribute on the performance of the new venture. For example, the study finds that, on average, the owners of an MNV possessed 3.4 years more of the same industry work experience than their FNV counterparts. This …

Applications Of Social Systems Theory Relative To Inclusivity In The Context Of K–12 Schools, Tessa R. Sutton
Applications Of Social Systems Theory Relative To Inclusivity In The Context Of K–12 Schools, Tessa R. Sutton
All-Inclusive List of Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This single case study explored K–12 school leaders perceptions of their districts structure for implementing diversity and creating inclusion as a framework (Getzels & Guba, 1957). Previous research that highlighted the views and perceptions of school leaders with respect to diversity and inclusion in schools as social systems focused on the humane side of the behaviors of individuals (Hoy & Miskel, 2005). Nevertheless, traditional Educational leadership programs typically focus on accreditation factors specific to lesson planning, classroom management, and curriculum implementation and exclude the human element (Duffett et al., 2003; Johnson, 2016). The lack of focus on change management systems …
