Transcriptome Sequencing Analysis Of Ovarian Granulosa Cells In Fecb Hybrid Ewe Lamb, Cuiling Wu, Chunxin Wang, Bo Zhai, Yunhui Zhao, Zhuo Zhao, Yuezhen Tian, Kechuan Tian, Mingxin Zhang

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The reproductive trait of livestock is part of the most important economic traits in animal husbandry. FecB is a major gene for multiplet traits in sheep. However, studies on FecB in lamb are not clear and comprehensive. The 1-month ewe lamb of F1 generation cross between Booroola Merino sheep and Xinji fine wool sheep was superovulated. Transcriptome sequencing was performed on ovarian granulosa cells of the FecB gene wild homozygous type (++ genotype) and FecB gene mutant heterozygous type (B+ genotype). We found 306 DEGs in the ovarian granulosa cells of the two genotype (170 genes more highly in B+ …

Investigation Of Propolis In Terms Of Hygienic Quality, Some Pathogenic Bacteria And Nosema Spp., Hayretti̇n Akkaya, Gülay Merve Bayrakal, Emek Dümen

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

Propolis collected from plants by honeybees is used for the construction and protection of hives. In addition, propolis has been used in the treatment of many diseases since ancient times because of its antimicrobial, antiseptic, antiinflammatory and antioxidant properties. Despite all these positive health effects, propolis can be microbiologically risky for many reasons such as environmental contamination and insufficient personnel hygiene. Therefore, chemical, physical, antimicrobial properties as well as microbiological properties are among the parameters to be investigated. This study aims to explore propolis?s initial bacteriological and parasitological flora using 5 different parameters (total coliform group, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, …

In Vitro Investigation Of Netosis Reaction Developing From Dog Polymorphonuclearneutrophils To Toxoplasma Gondii, Güneş Karakurt, Kader Yildiz

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

Toxoplasma gondii is known to develop extracellular traps from neutrophils in some animal species such as mice, cattle, sheep, cats, and donkeys. This study aimed to investigate the extracellular trap structures formed in dog polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMNs) to T. gondii tachyzoites in vitro. Dog PMN was isolated using Percoll dilutions (45%, 54%, 63%, and 72%). After incubation with tachyzoites, the extracellular traps originating from the dog PMNs were observed in the extracellular areas. Histones (H3), myeloperoxidase (MPO), and neutrophil elastase (NE), the characteristic features of NETosis reaction, were detected in extracellular areas. The tachyzoites were observed between the extracellular trap …

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The genetic polymorphism of the alpha S1-casein (CSN1S1) was investigated in five sheep breeds reared in Bulgaria: Sofia (Elin-Pelin, SEPL), Copper-Red Shumen (CRSH), Local Karnobat (LKNB), Pleven Blackhead (PLBH), and Stara Zagora (STZG) sheep with an aim to establish the possible effect of a particular genotype on ovine milk composition. Based on nucleotide variation in exon III of the CSN1S1gene, two genetic variants (A and C) and three genotypes (AA, AC, and CC) have been identified using PCR-RFLP analysis on a total of 217 unrelated ewes. The allele frequencies determined a prevalence of the allele C (0.886) over the allele …

Functional And Whole Regression-Based Genome-Wide Association Analyses For Weightmeasurements Of Chicken Eggs, Burak Karacaören Jan 2020

Functional And Whole Regression-Based Genome-Wide Association Analyses For Weightmeasurements Of Chicken Eggs, Burak Karacaören

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

In genomic studies, complex traits can be modelled using repeated measures, thereby gaining a better understanding of the underlying biology. An increased number of measurements per individual might reduce measurement noise, thus increasing the likelihood of detecting true genomic signals. Here we aimed to predict genomic signals over a logistic curve referring to multiple underlying genetic architectures, for both simulated and longitudinal egg weight datasets. The chicken data were obtained from 92 sires and 801 dams of an 11th generation pure line, resulting in data from 1078 hens. We analysed longitudinal measurements of egg weights with 294,705 single nucleotide polymorphisms …

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

Black sesame seed is a potential herbal medicine for osteoarthritis treatment as it contains sesamin, which has antiinflammatory properties and has demonstrated chondroprotective effects in many species. Horses are particularly susceptible to osteoarthritis. Inflammatory mediators and matrix metalloproteinase are important factors causing cartilage degradation. This study aimed to investigate the protective potential of sesamin (0.5-2.0 μM) against interleukin (IL)-1ß-induced equine cartilage explant degradation. The cartilage degradation was monitored by measuring the release of cartilage matrix molecules in culture media including sulfatedglycosaminoglycans and hyaluronan by calorimetric assay and ELISA assay, respectively. The remaining contents of collagen and uronic acid (UA) within …
