Transmission And Reflection Imaging Of Stratigraphy From Passive Array Data, Chloe Olivia Glover Dec 2019

Transmission And Reflection Imaging Of Stratigraphy From Passive Array Data, Chloe Olivia Glover

Electronic Theses and Dissertations Archive

The IRIS Consortium conducted an experiment in Oklahoma in the summer of 2016 using a 3-line array originally intended for a reflection survey. We identified phase conversions in the crust with passive seismic sources. A major Sp phase conversion was identified at 0.5 km with several other large conversions evident between ~1.5 and 2.5 km depth across all profiles and events. The 0.5 km depth conversion correlates to the base of the Permian red-bed sandstones and shales, and the top of the Pennsylvanian limestones/shales/sandstones. The conversions between 1.5 and 2.5 kilometers depth correspond to the top of the Cambrian granites …

Reconnecting: A Grounded Theory Study Of Formerly Homeless Mothers, Pamela M. H. Cone Dec 2019

Reconnecting: A Grounded Theory Study Of Formerly Homeless Mothers, Pamela M. H. Cone

Dissertations

Homelessness is a condition that adversely affects the spirit, mind, and body of an individual. Homeless mothers are the fastest growing segment of the homeless population and are a vulnerable, at-risk group. Current strategies for care of the homeless focus primarily on providing food and shelter, strategies that keep them alive, but give only temporary help. The purpose of this grounded theory study was to explore the experience of homelessness from the perspective of formerly homeless mothers and to describe and discover the process whereby they navigated the pitfalls of homelessness and got off the streets into stable housing.

Work Related Paternal Absence Among Petroleum Workers In Canada, Simon Nuttgens, Emily Doyle, Jeff Chang Dec 2019

Work Related Paternal Absence Among Petroleum Workers In Canada, Simon Nuttgens, Emily Doyle, Jeff Chang

The Qualitative Report

Work-Related Parental Absence (WRPA) is common in contemporary family life. Industries such as aviation, fishing, logging, mining, and petroleum extraction all require the employee to work away from family from short to significant periods of time. In Canada’s petroleum industry, work schedules that involve parental absence are especially common. There has been ample research conducted on the impact of military deployment on families, some research on how mining families are impacted by WRPA, and a small amount of research on the effects of WRPA among offshore European petroleum workers and their families. However, there is no research currently available that …

Proactive Energy Optimization In Residential Buildings With Weather And Market Forecasts, Cody Simmons, Joshua Arment, Kody M. Powell, John Hedengren Dec 2019

Proactive Energy Optimization In Residential Buildings With Weather And Market Forecasts, Cody Simmons, Joshua Arment, Kody M. Powell, John Hedengren

Faculty Publications

This work explores the development of a home energy management system (HEMS) that uses weather and market forecasts to optimize the usage of home appliances and to manage battery usage and solar power production. A Moving Horizon Estimation (MHE) application is used to find the unknown home model parameters. These parameters are then updated in a Model Predictive Controller (MPC) which optimizes and balances competing comfort and economic objectives. Combining MHE and MPC applications alleviates model complexity commonly seen in HEMS by using a lumped parameter model that is adapted to fit a high-fidelity model. Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning …

Near-Coastal Ultrahigh Resolution Scatterometer Winds, Nolan Lawrence Hutchings

Theses and Dissertations

RapidScat 2.5 km ultrahigh resolution (UHR) wind estimation is introduced and validated it in near-coastal regions. The new algorithm is validated with L2B wind estimates, Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) wind products, and buoy measurements. The wind processing improvements produce more spatially consistent UHR winds that compare well with the wind products mentioned above. Hawaii regional climate model (HRCM), QuikSCAT, and ASCAT wind estimates are compared in the lee of the Big …

Because the absolute Tafweed is inconsistent with the Holy Quran’s call for understanding and pondering and with the Attributes of Allah and …
