Saccharomyces boulardii is used for antimicrobial peptide production and so can be termed as bacteriocin molecules with probiotic potential. Antimicrobial peptides are extracted from the culture broth and followed the purification using Sephadex G-50 column. Further, the inhibition activity was determined against selected microorganisms and inhibition zone against streptococcus pneumoniae was found to be highest among selected microbes. The fourth fraction of the peptide after purification was shown a 26 mm bacterial inhibition zone determined by agar well diffusion method. SDS-PAGE analysis revealed the protein band corresponding to 18 kDa was observed. The MBC/MIC study proved that the peptide extract …

Karbala International Journal of Modern Science
Researches available in literature interrelating neural networks to civil engineering design problems, especially for beep beams, are very rare. Therefore, an optimization algorithm is developed and verified in this study and coded using MATLAB functions to determine the optimum cost design of reinforced concrete deep beams. ACI 318-14 code method is used benefiting from iterative particle swarm optimization technique due to its efficiency and reliability. Minimizing total cost is used as the objective function in terms of four decision variables. Self-adaptive penalty function technique is used to handle constraints for each of the 300 randomly selected particles, and in each …

Karbala International Journal of Modern Science
With the improvement of the medical services frameworks rivalry, hospitals face more and more challenges. In the interim, allotment of resource has a crucial influence on performing competitive benefits in a hospitals. To choose the suitable beds number is one of the most essential tasks in hospital administration. Anyway, in true condition, bed allotment choice is a multiple-side problem with weakness and haphazardness of the information available. It is so sophisticated. Therefore, the research about bed allotment difficulty is comparatively rare under considering multiple departments, nursing hours, and stochastic information about arrival and service of patients. In this paper, we …

Evaluation Of Atmospherically Gases Using Models Flaash And Quac To Hyper-Spectral Imagery, Asmaa Maher
Evaluation Of Atmospherically Gases Using Models Flaash And Quac To Hyper-Spectral Imagery, Asmaa Maher
Karbala International Journal of Modern Science
The important step is correction of the effect of atmospheric on hyper-spectral imagery of the VIS “visible”, short wave & NIR “near-infrared” spectral range. In general, the cause for limiting the use of hyperspectral images is the atmospheric effects, so, atmospheric correction is necessary for any accurate processing. In this work, two atmospheric correction techniques have been applied on Hyper-spectral image. From the raw original image and also from the FLAASH and QUAC atmospheric corrected images the spectra of vegetation, water and soil were extracted. The acquisition data for study contained Hyperion bands for year “2015” images over each of …

Stereo Photogrammetry Vs Computed Tomography For 3d Medical Measurements, Doaa Awda Hussien, Fanar M. Abed, Alauldeen A. Hasan
Karbala International Journal of Modern Science
The acquisition of 3D body measurements by computer vision-based remote sensing is becoming extremely substantial in clinical studies nowadays. Thus, accurate 3D models of human anatomical surfaces are required in many clinical routines like disease diagnosis, patient follow-up, surgical planning, computer assisted surgery and different biomechanical applications. These models can be generated from different imaging techniques such as computed tomography (CT). However, 3D conventional medical imaging like CT scan have serious limitations in application such as exposing the patient to ionizing radiation due to repeated scans, highly cost imaging process, failure to provide color texture information, and also lacking to …

Best Practice Soil Sampling To Depth The Key To Enable Growers To Manage Soil Acidity, Stephen Carr
Best Practice Soil Sampling To Depth The Key To Enable Growers To Manage Soil Acidity, Stephen Carr
The State of Soil Science in WA
Soil acidity affects approximately 50 million hectares of agricultural land in Australia, predominantly in Western Australia (WA) and New South Wales (State of the Environment 2011 committee). Subsurface acidity below 0.1 m, in particular, is a major land degradation issue throughout the WA wheatbelt. Soil acidification is an inevitable consequence of productive agriculture, largely through the addition of acidifying fertilizers, leaching of nitrates and removal of alkaline plant products.

What Lies Deep Beneath – Acid Sulfate Soil Impacts On Groundwater Resources Used For Irrigation, Brad Degens
What Lies Deep Beneath – Acid Sulfate Soil Impacts On Groundwater Resources Used For Irrigation, Brad Degens
The State of Soil Science in WA
Over 17 years have passed since the hazards posed by Acid Sulfate Soils (ASS) were recognised in WA with a catastrophic oxidation event during dewatering of a development in Perth’s northern suburbs. Since then, regional mapping has identified ASS risks lies beneath over 6000 km2 (about half) of the Swan Coastal plain. The risks posed by these soils are mostly to water quality and aquatic ecosystems rather than the directly to soils for agricultural production purposes.

Mastering The Model Answer, Elizabeth Sherowski
Mastering The Model Answer, Elizabeth Sherowski
Events at Dickinson Law
One way to encourage professors to assign written work across the law school curriculum is to assure them that providing feedback on the writing won't take up too much time. Giving students a post-assignment model answer is an effective way to save time on providing feedback, but most students don't know how to use model answers effectively, and many professors don't know how to draft an effective model answer. This presentation shows LRW professors how to share their pedagogical expertise with faculty across the curriculum to help their colleagues 1) devise pedagogically sound model answers and 2) train their students …

Variable Aluminium Toxicity And Root Distribution In Acidic Soil Profiles, Paul Damon, Gaus Azam, Craig Scanlan, Chris Gazey
Variable Aluminium Toxicity And Root Distribution In Acidic Soil Profiles, Paul Damon, Gaus Azam, Craig Scanlan, Chris Gazey
The State of Soil Science in WA
Subsoil acidity currently affects two thirds of the arable soils in the WA wheatbelt. At acidic soil pH, aluminium (Al) is solubilised from the solid phase into soil solution, creating a direct and localised toxicity to plant roots. Aluminium toxicity to plant roots constrains crop productivity by reducing root proliferation through soil, and inhibiting the capacity of roots to tolerate other constraints, such as compaction. Ongoing acidification of the subsoil is a direct artefact of the productive farming systems that are required to feed our world’s growing appetite for grain and livestock products.

Connect 4: Student + Research + Writing + Theory, Nicole R. Chong
Events at Dickinson Law
We often see first-year law students failing to make connections between research, writing, and theory. First-year students tend to view their classes in separate silos. As students advance into the upper-level curriculum, the failed connections are exacerbated. Students are unable to connect what they learned in the first year of law school to the classes they are now taking in their last two years of law school. Additionally, upper-level faculty who assume that the students are making connections when they are not further compound this connection problem. The connection failure can result in a number of problems. How do we …

This paper explores issues of accessibility in Web design, including the applicability of various federal statutes such as the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA) and Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. A pilot study of six private sector websites is completed to gauge the effectiveness of current accessibility standards as interpreted from the ADA and Section 508. Evaluating these sites shows that even after 25 years, sites still have accessibility issues.
Employee Compliance To Information Security In Retail Stores, Bertrand Muhire, Ramakrishna Ayyagari
Employee Compliance To Information Security In Retail Stores, Bertrand Muhire, Ramakrishna Ayyagari
Communications of the IIMA
Retail industry has suffered some of the biggest data breaches in recent times. Organizations are deploying technological tools to limit data breaches. However, purely technological solution is not going to be sufficient because human-factor is often considered to be the weakest link in Information Security. In this paper, the authors investigate the behavioral aspect of information security in a retail setting. Specifically, the factors that influence compliance behaviors to information security policies (ISP) in retail stores are identified. Attitude, awareness, and sanctions are proposed as key variables that influence compliance intentions to ISP. The authors test the proposed model using …

End-Users Compliance To The Information Security Policy: A Comparison Of Motivational Factors, Peter Straver, Pascal Ravesteyn
Communications of the IIMA
Business information, held within information systems, is critical for most organizations. To protect these critical information assets, security controls should be deployed which might come as a hindrance for the end-users. The Information Security Policies (ISP) give direction to their behaviors. Organizations can focus on conditions likely to promote so-called motivational factors influencing the end-users intentions to perform the desired behavior of compliance to ISP in order to protect these information assets.
In total, six motivational factors, applicable to intentions on compliance, are found during research and are measured within five organizational contexts. From the measurements and analysis is learned, …

Soil Exchangeable Cations Increase Microbial Carbon Use Efficiency And Microbial Growth In Acidic Soils, Emilia Horn
The State of Soil Science in WA
Microbial growth and function is influenced by the properties of the surrounding soil where surface chemistry mediates interactions between individual organisms and their local microenvironment. We hypothesised that the addition of exchangeable base cations, necessary for microbial biochemical function, will increase microbial growth in acidic soils.

Taking Collective Action To Integrate The Law School Curriculum, Sherri Thomas, Michelle Rigual
Events at Dickinson Law
Successfully dismantling the “separate but equal” paradigm to integrate Legal Research and Writing courses into the law school curriculum is a long-term proposition that is unlikely to succeed through a single campaign. At University of New Mexico, several negative hierarchical structures have stood in the way of curricular integration, including some surprising ones that arise from within the legal writing and research faculties. In this session, we’ll discuss these structures, the tools we are using to challenge them, and the successes we have experienced thus far.
