Physical And Chemical Researches Of The Relaxol Series Of Cement Composition With Complex Chemical Additive Kdj-3, N A. Samigov, А Т. Djalilov, M U. Karimov, Z M. Sattorov, U N. Samigov, B Q. Mirzayev

Scientific-technical journal

To study the process of structure formation of the cement composition, the method of infrared spectroscopy, X-ray phase analysis and electron microscopy were used. With the help of mechanical mixing it is difficult to provide the binder with the right amount of water. This task is performed by a complex additive, improving the wettability of cement particles. By reducing the content of calcium hydroxide, the possibility of the formation and existence of polybasic calcium hydroaluminates decreases. This circumstance prevents the formation of calcium hydrosulfonate (GSAC) in the later periods of hardening. On electron micrographs of cement stone samples with the …

Sustaining Success: Developing An Ambulatory Practice Toolkit To Maintain Quality Improvement Gains, Johnny Stoeckle Md, Deborah Bren Do, Janelle Sharma

Department of Family Medicine

Achieving success in performance improvement in primary care is an accomplishment, but sustaining those improvements can be exceedingly difficult. Often, a lack of time, resources, and staff burnout are cited as barriers (Chin et al, 2008) to sustaining even the most robust initiatives. In this presentation, we will identify the core elements of a quality toolkit that will assist practices and leadership with implementing and sustaining quality improvement in the ambulatory setting. We will share the latest evidence and our recent organizational experience with risk-based stratification, peer-to-peer clinical and provider support, and data strategies that have proven outcomes in sustaining …

The Third Conversation: A Promising Pathway For Improving Wellbeing For Clinicians And Patients, Deborah Bren Do, Emese Sogor Mph Dec 2019

The Third Conversation: A Promising Pathway For Improving Wellbeing For Clinicians And Patients, Deborah Bren Do, Emese Sogor Mph

Department of Family Medicine

Patient-clinician relationships should be the heart of health care. But the demands of our system do not serve the traditional doctor-patient relationship well. Clinicians are burning out and leaving health care at alarming rates, with related spikes in depression and even suicide. Meanwhile, patients are talking separately about how they too feel burned by the system. The third conversation brings these groups together and gives them the space and the freedom to connect in a new way that builds empathy and appreciation for each other's humanity. The experience is designed to boost clinician and patient wellbeing. In a facilitated conversation, …

Clinical Depression Pathway Implementation: Outcomes From Pilot Practices, Michael Wright Bs, Janelle M. Sharma Dnp, Mba, Deborah Bren Do

Department of Family Medicine

In 2017, an estimated 17.3 million adults (7.1%) in the United States had at least one major depressive episode. Although there are known, effective treatments for depression, fewer than half of those affected receive such treatments. LVHN implemented an Ambulatory Clinical Depression Pathway at three pilot sites to improve depression screening, symptom management, remission documentation, and patient quality of life. The pathway utilized the PHQ-9 metric for evaluating and tracking severity of depression while providing guidelines for short- and long-term follow up, patient education, and medical management. Five hundred twenty-five individuals were screened during the 6-month pilot study; 38% were …

Ask A Terrier: Mark Of The Hallmark, Dave Jaffe

Erma Bombeck Writers' Workshop Blog

Hello, Budleigh! Big fan of Hallmark Christmas Movies here. I'm excited that 40 new titles are slated over the holiday season, which according to Hallmark began in July. While Hallmark's programming is enjoyable, several issues distract me: 1. July? 2. In their movies that feature a dog, it's always a terrier. 3. Is that a union thing, terriers? You seem to have your paw on the pulse of the entertainment industry, Budleigh. Any insights into why terriers rather than other breeds? Um, I'm asking for a friend. Who's curled in my lap, sighing sadly. Happy holidays! Jennie C., her friend, …

Aboriginal Title And The Royal Proclamation Of 1763: Origins And Illusions, Brian Slattery Dec 2019

Aboriginal Title And The Royal Proclamation Of 1763: Origins And Illusions, Brian Slattery

All Papers

Some legal historians have argued that the law of Indigenous rights in Canada is a modern invention, stemming from the Calder decision in 1973. In this essay, I consider the origins of Indigenous rights in 18th and 19th century law, focusing on Aboriginal title and the Royal Proclamation of 1763. My conclusion is that the modern law is in fact grounded in ancient doctrines of common law that evolved in British North America from the early days of settlement. These doctrines were recognized and affirmed in the Royal Proclamation of 1763 and were applied in a series of leading 19th …

Past Management Spurs Differential Plant Communities Within A Giant Single-Clone Aspen Forest, Paul C. Rogers, Jan ŠEbesta Dec 2019

Past Management Spurs Differential Plant Communities Within A Giant Single-Clone Aspen Forest, Paul C. Rogers, Jan ŠEbesta

Ecology Center Publications

Sustainable aspen ecosystems hold great promise for global biodiversity conservation. These forests harbor relatively high species diversity, yet are threatened by fire suppression, land development, timber-focused management, extended droughts, and chronic herbivory. “Pando” is a high-profile quaking aspen (Populus tremuloides) forest in Utah, USA which is putatively the ‘largest living organism on earth.’ Pando comprises an estimated 47,000 genetically identical stems, but is threatened by human impacts. Our interest in the present study is whether changes to the giant organism were affecting understorey vegetation and whether discrete zones are displaying divergent community compositions. For instance, recent research has demonstrated strong …

North American Winter Dipole: Observed And Simulated Changes In Circulations, Yu-Tang Chien, Shih-Yu (Simon) Wang, Yoshimitsu Chikamoto, Steve L. Voelker, Jonathan D.D. Meyer, Jin-Ho Yoon

Plants, Soils, and Climate Faculty Publications

In recent years, a pair of large-scale circulation patterns consisting of an anomalous ridge over northwestern North America and trough over northeastern North America was found to accompany extreme winter weather events such as the 2013–2015 California drought and eastern U.S. cold outbreaks. Referred to as the North American winter dipole (NAWD), previous studies have found both a marked natural variability and a warming-induced amplification trend in the NAWD. In this study, we utilized multiple global reanalysis datasets and existing climate model simulations to examine the variability of the winter planetary wave patterns over North America and to better understand …

The Effect Of Chronic Wasting Disease On Resident Deer Hunting Permit Demand In Wisconsin, Dane Erickson, Carson Reeling, John G. Lee Dec 2019

The Effect Of Chronic Wasting Disease On Resident Deer Hunting Permit Demand In Wisconsin, Dane Erickson, Carson Reeling, John G. Lee

Department of Agricultural Economics Faculty Publications

Chronic wasting disease (CWD) has had a negative impact on deer license demand in Wisconsin since it was first found in the state in 2002. Prior work evaluates the effect of CWD on hunting permit sales, but only in the period immediately after the disease was discovered. We use data on hunting permit sales, permit price, and other demand shifters to estimate a model of deer permit demand for the period 1966–2015. We use the estimated model to quantify the effect of CWD on (1) hunter demand for deer permits; (2) hunter surplus from hunting; and (3) lost hunting permit …

Where's The Rigor? A Study Of Direct Instruction Vs. Inquiry-Based Learning In Math Education, Brianna Rae Warner Dec 2019

Where's The Rigor? A Study Of Direct Instruction Vs. Inquiry-Based Learning In Math Education, Brianna Rae Warner

Honors Projects

Research suggests that there is an absence of rigor in high school mathematics classes. Since curricula is often used to guide instruction, an analysis of direct instruction and inquiry-based learning curricula was conducted to investigate how rigor is integrated into these divergent approaches for presenting content to high school mathematics students, based on the expectation of rigor aligned with the Common Core State Standards regarding how (1) conceptual understanding, (2) procedural skill and fluency, and (3) applications are developed in the text. The results of the analysis show that neither style for writing curriculum is in alignment with the CCSS. …

The Effects Of Breast Milk On Necrotizing Enterocolitis, Taylor M. Kreiser Dec 2019

The Effects Of Breast Milk On Necrotizing Enterocolitis, Taylor M. Kreiser

Honors Capstones

Necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) is one of the deadliest diseases a newborn could contract while in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). NEC is an inflammatory intestinal disease that is characterized by variable intestinal injury, inflammation and often bacterial invasion (Alganabi, Lee, Bindi, Li, & Pierro, 2019). This disease affects almost 10% of preterm infants weighing less than 1500 grams at birth and the mortality rate for infants weighing less than 1000 grams at birth is 30-50%. The pathophysiology of NEC includes a variety of factors and is still not completely understood. This literature review was written to examine the effects …
