This article reviews the design and findings of an autoethnographic study on identity development over time. The researcher wanted to know how an adult can make meaning from and develop through experiences of mental illness, spiritual awareness, and death. The purpose of this autoethnographic bildungsroman was to explore how a male in the general population describes how life events have influenced his identity development over a period of 23 years, spanning three decades. Research suggests that a sense of belonging is a critical prerequisite of happiness and well-being. While some have focused on belonging provided by relationships, other work demonstrates the value of belonging in certain places. In the current research we join these efforts to understand belonging by offering a novel framework for exploring an understudied but no less fundamental aspect of human experience—time. We situate this framework within an existential analysis of human action and test general predictions about the psychological value of experiencing a sense of belonging in time, what we call temporal rootedness. Over the past couple of decades, the apparent widespread occurrence of Questionable Research Practices (QRPs) in scientific research has been widely discussed in the research ethics literature as a source of concern. Various ways of reducing their use have been proposed and implemented, ranging from improved training and incentives for adopting best practices to systematic reforms. This article reports on the results of two studies that investigated the efficacy of simple, psychological interventions aimed at changing researcher attitudes toward QRPs. Abstract Background Having a tax-funded and supposedly ‘National’ Health Service (NHS), one might assume that the UK is well-positioned to roll out eHealth innovations at scale. Yet, despite a strong policy push, the English NHS has been limited in the extent to which it has exploited the potential of eHealth. Main body This paper considers a range of macro, meso and micro factors influencing eHealth innovation in the English NHS. Conclusions While barriers to eHealth innovation exist at all scales, the fragmentation of the NHS is the most significant factor limiting adoption and diffusion. Parkinson’s disease (PD) is associated with cognitive and sleep impairments. The presence of rapid eye movement (REM) sleep behavior disorder (RBD) symptoms may represent a worse disease prognosis for PD individuals. We investigated cognitive functioning and self-reported sleep in early-stage PD individuals with (n = 19) or without (n = 31) probable RBD. Probable RBD was defined as >5 on the REM Sleep Behavior Disorder Screening Questionnaire. Inhibition, visuospatial cognitive abilities, working memory, sustained visual attention, verbal fluency, and episodic memory were assessed. Second-wave feminism and the sexual revolution changed Americans’ relationship with not only sex and gender but also religion. In the late 1960s, Kent Philpott, a seminary student in San Francisco, experienced these changes first-hand. After feeling a calling to minister in Haight-Ashbury, Philpott increasingly devoted himself to one cause—remedying homosexual men and women. Philpott’s story, however, remains an underreported part of the history of contemporary conversion therapy. More specifically, Philpott’s charismatic beliefs have been lost in the expansive scholarship on sexual reorientation change therapies. In Indonesia, marriage contracts are still common. In addition to culture, women's reproductive rights are also strongly associated with poverty. The poverty factor is very influential in relation to quality of life and women's reproductive health. This article investigates the reproductive health rights of women under a marriage contract. Employing the descriptive qualitative method, the research was conducted in Pasuruan, East Java and Bogor, West Java, Indonesia. The selection of the research contexts was done purposively. The earthquake in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, in August 2018 not only damaged the environment and the area around the epicenter but also shook public order. This study investigated the patterns and modes of the occurrence of cases of women and child trafficking in East Java Province, Indonesia. This includes the factors that cause women to become familiar with the trade of women and children. An online messaging application receives content that describes a conversation conducted via the online messaging application between a user and a business entity having a presence on the online messaging application. Features are extracted from the content and a transaction prediction model is applied to predict a likelihood that the conversation describes a transaction between the user and the business entity. Based on the predicted likelihood that a transaction has occurred, content items are identified for presentation to the user.

Return-Oriented Programming Detection And Prevention Utilizing A Hardware And Software Adaptation, Alex Levin

This publication describes techniques aimed at detecting and preventing return-oriented programming (ROP) attacks. The techniques consist of a software adaptation which enables supplemental hardware, specifically a system on a chip (SoC), to chronologically log return (ret) addresses of pushed stack frames and compare those logged ret addresses to ret commands executed by a central processing unit (CPU) of a computing system. When the SoC determines that ret commands executed by the CPU have deviated from the logged ret addresses, then the SoC can take action to thwart a ROP attack.

When pairwise dot products are computed between input embedding vectors and the dot product is used for further computation, the number of dot products grows quadratically with the number of embedding vectors. This can cause an efficiency bottleneck and affect performance of machine learning models. This disclosure describes techniques to obtain a compressed dot product matrix from input sparse embeddings. The compressed embeddings are used to obtain a compressed dot product. The compressed embeddings are generated using a weights matrix that is initialized randomly and learnt alongside other parts of the model.
