Examination Of Potential Factors To Predict Fieldwork Performance: A Program Evaluation Project, Sandra M. Whisner, Matthew Geddie, Dawndra Sechrist, Eugene Wang

Journal of Occupational Therapy Education

This program evaluation project evaluated the validity of a hypothesized model for predicting fieldwork performance using data of 121 occupational therapy students from a single university. The first aim was to evaluate the hypothesized relationships between observed measures (e.g., admission GPAs) and proposed latent factors (e.g., academic achievement) for predictor and outcome variables. Factor analysis of the outcome variable revealed a three-factor structure, measured by 13 items from the Fieldwork Performance Evaluation for the Occupational Therapy Student. However, factor analyses of the predictor variables did not support the proposed latent factors: Academic Achievement and Professional Potential. The second aim was …

Codes were grouped into themes and the findings were summarized. Four major themes emerged: 1) learning experiences; 2) purposeful ambiguity; 3) knowledge and skill development; and 4) newfound appreciation. Learning experiences included …

Design Of An Osce To Assess Clinical Competence Of Occupational Therapy Students, Nancy E. Krusen, Debra Rollins Jan 2019

Design Of An Osce To Assess Clinical Competence Of Occupational Therapy Students, Nancy E. Krusen, Debra Rollins

Journal of Occupational Therapy Education

Objective structured clinical examinations (OSCEs) are a series of controlled, timed stations in which students demonstrate clinical skills. OSCEs are commonly used within health professions education to demonstrate competence, prepare for clinical education, and conduct program evaluation. The body of literature addressing the use of OSCEs in occupational therapy (OT) is growing; however, there are no available guidelines for developing an OSCE specific to the profession. The purpose of this paper is to describe the design of an OSCE for OT students prior to fieldwork placement. Twelve OT practitioners participated in a modified-Delphi method to generate possible OSCE scenarios. The …

Rapid Prototyping Of Mixing Elements In Bioreactor System, Angela Clyde, Chris Cooper, Aaron Dryden, Erik Olson, Jaden Markos, Ryan Randall, Spencer Lynch, Mark Smith

Biological Engineering

Emerging technologies, such as 3D printing, have revolutionized the way in which engineers prototype innovative designs. Here, students optimized a procedure for rapidly prototyping mixing elements in a Thermo Fisher Scientific bioreactor, using 3D printing. Impellers were designed using AutoCAD and SolidWorks drafting software, 3D printed on a Fortus 3D printer, and evaluated via application specific bioreactor simulations.

Three different bioreactor applications were modeled – high density cell culture, solid dissolution, and microcarrier cell culture – each with their own impeller designs and testing procedures.

Project Objectives:

• Develop an iterative process for rapid prototyping bioreactor impellers.

• Design and …

3 Day Emergency Dialysis Kit, Luke Fillingim, Aaron Marshall, Brandi Thielman

Biological Engineering

Following natural disasters, dialysis clinics are unable to provide treatment for their patients. Many city facilities and vital services, such as water and power, can remain damaged or unavailable for as many as a few weeks

In one instance, it was reported that after a natural disaster the five leading causes of dialysis clinics becoming inoperable were: damage to reverse osmosis systems, interruption of water supply, failure of electrical power supply, structural damage to buildings and failure of telecommunications3.

Unfortunately, patients with end stage renal disease have the potential to become very sick in a matter of days …

Aquatic Ecosystems Publications

Recent climate-driven, physico-chemical changes documented in aquatic systems throughout the world are expected to intensify in the future. Specifically, changes in key environmental attributes of aquatic systems, such as water quantity, clarity, temperatures, ice cover, seasonal flow regimes, external loading, and oxygen content, will undoubtedly have a broad set of direct and indirect ecological consequences. Some anticipated impacts may be similar across different aquatic ecosystems, while others may be system-specific. Here, we review the potential effects of climatic changes for different freshwater habitats within the state of Indiana, USA, a Midwestern state with diverse land and water features. Given this …

Migrasi Orang Biak Dan Identitas Orang Asli Papua Di Sausapor, Papua Barat, Irin Oktafiani, Herry Jogaswara

Antropologi Indonesia

This paper discusses the migration process and the recognition of identity of Biak people in Sausapor along with the impact of it. Dichotomy of local and outsider is still a clear barrier separating Biak and Abun people in Miossu islands and Sausapor, the capital district of Tambrauw, West Papua. Biak people are considered as outsider with regards to the land ownership issue in Sausapor. On the other side, they are also considered as insider in Kampung Werur which is located in the same region with Sausapor. There are two different identity layers related to the problem of land ownership and …

Antropologi Indonesia

Enggano Island is located at the southernmost of the Barrier Islands, after Simeulue, Nias and Mentawai, off Sumatra’s west coast. Rising up from the deep seabed of the Indian Ocean, Enggano is often described as an isolated island. Literature on the inhabitants, known as the Engganese, are scarce or else limited to travel account and stories about their traditional culture that are no longer practiced. Studies on Enggano, especially in anthropology, archaeology, and linguistics, attempted to group Engganese language and culture with Nias and Mentawai given the close geographical location and degree of similarities. The Engganese position within the Austronesian …

Dimensi Adat Dan Dinamika Komunitas Dayak Di Kalimantan Timur, Semiarto Aji Purwanto, Haryono -

Antropologi Indonesia

Adat is Indonesian concept for customary law, a living law practiced by people in their communities. For decades after independence of Indonesia in 1945, the role of adat was gradually changed and replaced by national legal laws. It, however, did not really abolish the existence of adat in daily practices of particular communities. Since the 1998 Reformation, adat has been becoming a central academic and policy discussions as the changing of political system in Indonesia introduces regional autonomy policy in the regency level. Adat, since then, is extensively used to various activisms and practices. For examples, the indigenous people movement …

Harmoni Lanskap Spiritual Dan Kontestasi Komoditas Di Gunung Kawi, Tony Rudyansjah

Antropologi Indonesia

In understanding spiritual landscape, human ideas and practices in dealing with something sacred was considered to be connected with history or memory, cosmology, livelihood, power, and social dynamics. These aspects appeared to create structures and agents entangled around something that was considered sacred. Through a study on the sacred sites of Gunung Kawi, this article wants to show how an awareness of spiritual landscape producing and co-existing with commodification practices. Through the intertwined of those two logics—spiritual landscape and commodification—a lot of things in Gunung Kawi, both human and non-human, were behaving as an agent and an object at the …

Imaji Identitas Nasional Di Ruang Diaspora Anggota Ppi Di Thailand, M. Rifaldi Akbar Jan 2019

Imaji Identitas Nasional Di Ruang Diaspora Anggota Ppi Di Thailand, M. Rifaldi Akbar

Antropologi Indonesia

National identity is a construct that grows in the memories of the nation’s members. In a diaspora space, Indonesian national identity has a more significant role than local identities. This article explores the articulations of national identity by the members of the Indonesian students abroad (PPI) in Thailand. As foreign students, they encounter with people from other nations who have limited knowledge about polyethnic Indonesia in daily basis. Thus, they are trapped in a space that requires them to define Indonesia. Therefore, the representation of national identity becomes the autonomy of each PPI member. This article argues that the similarity …

Bergerak Dalam Diam: Budaya Penguasaan Dan Kontestasi Sumber Daya Hutan Lebakbarang, Fahmi Rizki Fahroji

Antropologi Indonesia

This article discusses the contestation over forest resources between Perhutani, as an agent of state, and Lebakbarang forest community. The disputes of perspectives and different interests concerning the forest have led to social conflict. The frictions of colonial history and state control over forest in Java also contribute to the long-drawn social conflict. To support the explanation of the forest resources contestation in Lebakbarang, this article presents historical and ethnographic data collected through a fieldwork and literature study. Using Foucault’s approach of governmentality, it tries to understand the forms of Perhutani’s control culture which has implications for the dispute over …

The Role Of Family Context In Family Health History Communication Surrounding Chronic Disease, Kendall M. Williams

College of Graduate Studies: Theses & Dissertations

Communication about family health history related to chronic disease are important to health promotion and prevention and associated with better health outcomes, yet for African Americans, they do not happen until after a family member has been diagnosed with a specific disease or condition (Hovick, 2016; Rodriguez, 2016). The purpose of the study was to examine the occurrence of family communication surrounding chronic disease in a sample of African American women in the rural Southeastern United States. Secondly, the study sought to examine whether frequency of communication was a factor in the communication (gathering or sharing) of family health history. …

Waste Management Of Highway Right Of Way Areas In Southeast Georgia, David M. Penn Ii

College of Graduate Studies: Theses & Dissertations

Maintenance of highway right of way (ROW) areas has become problematic during the last several years due to the high cost, and little to no economic return associated with disposing vegetation waste that is continuously generated on all highways and interstates across the state of Georgia. The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) was interested in evaluating the feasibility of replacing ROW vegetation of highways throughout the state with high-value alternatives such as switchgrass (Panicum virgatum L. ‘Alamo’), big bluestem (Andropogon gerardii) and woodland sunflower (Helianthus divaricatus). Preliminary objective involved measuring and mapping SOC and soil N concentrations in the highway …
