Research question: How does perception compare to production in southern speech in Linguistic Atlas data?

Hypothesis: We expect impressionistic glide weakening to correlate with less dynamic vowels.

Acoustic and perceptual data also tell different stories.

Perceptual data suggest:

• Social factors are not significant
• Pre-rhotic glides are the most weakened

Production data suggest:

• Ethnicity is significant
• Pre-lateral glides are the most weakened

As percentage of monophthongal perception goes up, Trajectory Length goes down, as expected, but the correlation is VERY weak.

Trajectory Length is not necessarily reflective of impressionistic transcriptions of glides in DASS.

The Allegro Music Club of Rock Hill Records consists of constitutions, meeting minutes, correspondence, yearbooks, magazines, financial records and other records related to the activities and operation of the club. The Allegro Music Club of Rock Hill was founded in August, 1950 as a music club for women. A committee composed of members of the Rock Hill Music Club formed the club with 11 members. The Allegro club joined the S.C. Federation of Music Clubs in 1951.

The Jefferys Family Bible consists of a bible belonging to the Jefferys Family and extended family of York County, SC. The bible contains genealogical entries and family records dating from 1800 through 1972 relating primarily to the Jeffreys and Jackson Family line, but also includes some connections to the Gilbert Family, Smith Family, Williams Family, and West Family. Wthin the pages of the Bible were several newspaper clippings and obituaries, funeral programs, notes, and other material. The Jefferys Family can trace their York County roots to James Jeffreys (1800-1883) who is buried in Old Settlers Cemetery in York, SC. He …

This collection consists of photographs of the Rock Hill area from the early 20^th century taken mostly by Marion Carlisle (1859-1940) who operated the Carlisle photography Studio in Rock Hill SC and several taken by his daughter Ora Lee Carlisle (1902-1969). The photographs include several scenes of the 1901 flood, 1903 train wreck, 1916 flood, and the 1926 tornado that struck Rock Hill. Previous research has shown there are multiple benefits to overall development and well-being of an individual when they obtain social belongingness (Begen & Turner-Cobb, 2015; Maslow, 1943; Osterman, 2000; Sirgy, 1986). Additionally, social belonging has been shown to have multiple positive effects in the lives of college students (Pittman and Richmond, 2008). The main objective of this study was to help determine whether the satisfaction a college student feels toward the quantity and quality of their social involvement in campus organizations is a predictor of academic success.
