Cartographier L’Essor D’Un Modèle : Le Chapiteau Ionique De Michel-Ange De L’Invention Au Début Du Xviie Siècle, Federica Vermot

This study proposes to map the propagation of an alternative type of ionic capital invented by Michelangelo in 1563. We proceed to a comparative analysis of the new buildings erected in Rome from the invention of the new capital to the beginning of the 17th century, in order to highlight spatial and temporal correlations peculiar to its diffusion. The study of this issue allows to understand the perception of the capital that the next generation of roman architects developed, which is a less known aspect of Michelangelo's reception. Overall, it invites to shape the stylistic evolution of an architectural motif.

Analysis of two-way structured data, i.e., data with structures among both variables and samples, is becoming increasingly common in ecology, biology and neuro-science. Classical dimension-reduction tools, such as the singular value decomposition (SVD), may perform poorly for two-way structured data. The generalized matrix decomposition (GMD, Allen et al., 2014) extends the SVD to two-way structured data and thus constructs singular vectors that account for both structures. While the GMD is a useful dimension-reduction tool for exploratory analysis of two-way structured data, it is unsupervised and cannot be used to assess the association between such data and an outcome of interest. …

Isolated Point Theorems For Uniform Algebras On Smooth Manifolds, Swarup Ghosh

In 1957, Andrew Gleason conjectured that if A is a uniform algebra on its maximal ideal space X and every point of X is a one-point Gleason part for A, then A must contain all continuous functions on X. Gleason’s conjecture was disproved by Brian Cole in 1968. In this paper, we establish a strengthened form of Gleason’s conjecture for uniform algebras generated by real-analytic functions on compact subsets of real-analytic three-dimensional manifolds-with-boundary.

Coming Of Age In The Cuban Revolution: A Dialogic Analysis Of Gerzom Gomez’S Memoir, Suny Cardenas-Gomez

This paper reveals common themes in literature about the turbulent changes occurring in pre-revolutionary Cuba. Included is an original communicative translation of selections from the memoir of my grandfather Gerzom Gomez from roughly 1935 to1965. He was coming of age in 1959 when Castro’s Revolution triumphed. The center of the project is a dialogic analysis of work by other Cuban authors writing during or about the pre-revolutionary period. Through the analysis, I discover that my grandfather’s memoir and the other texts share the following common themes: life in a military state, complicated family relationships, coming of age, and the realization, …

Emotion Regulation And Resilience In Parent–Adolescent Interactions Among Families Of Harmful Versus Non-Harmful Parental Alcohol Use, Marie Haverfield, Jennifer A. Theiss

This study applied emotion regulation theory to examine parental communication that predicts possible markers of adolescent resilience in families of harmful versus non-harmful parental alcohol use. Parent-adolescent dyads (30 with and 30 without harmful parental alcohol use) participated in video-taped interactions rated for parents' emotion coaching and emotion dismissing communication and adolescents' emotion regulation and behavioral impulsivity. Emotion coaching was positively associated with adolescent emotion regulation and behavioral impulsivity. Emotion dismissing was only positively associated with adolescent behavioral impulsivity. Adolescents in families of harmful alcohol use demonstrated more impulsivity but also showed more emotion regulation in the presence of emotion …

OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to assess safety outcomes of femoropopliteal drug-coated balloon (DCB) angioplasty using patient-level data from the Lutonix clinical program.

BACKGROUND: A recent systematic review and meta-analysis of heterogenous trials and summary-level data identified increased long-term mortality in patients treated with paclitaxel-coated balloons and stents.

Colored Cheddar cheeses are prepared by adding an aqueous annatto extract (norbixin) to cheese milk; however, a considerable proportion (∼20%) of such colorant is transferred to whey, which can limit the end use applications of whey products. Different geographical regions have adopted various strategies for handling whey derived from colored cheeses production. For example, in the United States, whey products are treated with oxidizing agents such as hydrogen peroxide and benzoyl peroxide to obtain white and colorless spray‐dried products; however, chemical bleaching of whey is prohibited in Europe and China. An Investigation Of The Influence Of Intrinsic Motivation On Students’ Intention To Use Mobile Devices In Language Learning, Yanyan Sun, Fei Gao

This study examines the relationships among intrinsic motivation, critical variables related to technology adoption, and students’ behavioral intention in Mobile-assisted language learning (MALL). To test the hypothesized model through a path analysis, 169 survey responses were collected from undergraduate students who were foreign language learners of English in a Chinese research university. The results indicated that although intrinsic motivation did not have a direct influence on students’ behavioral intention in MALL, it had a positive influence on students’ behavioral intention through the two intervening variables, perceived usefulness and task technology fit. Co‐construction theory suggests adolescents use digital communication to address developmental challenges. For a sample of 214 ethnically diverse adolescents, this research used direct observation to investigate the frequency, content, and timing of texting with parents, peers, and romantic partners through grades 9–12. Analyses showed that texting frequency follows a curvilinear trajectory, peaking in eleventh grade. Adolescents discussed a range of topics, predominantly with peers. Communication with parents was less frequent, but consistent over time. Approximately 45‐65% of adolescents communicated with romantic partners, texting heavily and about topics similar to those discussed with peers. Background: Some children with mental health (MH) problems have been found to receive ongoing care, either continuously or episodically. We sought to replicate patterns of MH service use over extended time periods, and test predictors of these patterns. Methods: Latent class analyses were applied to 4 years of visit data from five MH agencies and nearly 6000 children, 4-to 13-years-old at their first visit. Results: Five patterns of service use were identified, replicating previous findings. Overall, 14% of cases had two or more episodes of care and 23% were involved for more than 2 years. This paper discusses how the Leonard Lief Library at Lehman College is documenting its renovation via the social media platform Instagram. It discusses the origin of project, why we chose Instagram and how we chose to highlight that social media platform on our Library’s web page. We explain what choices we have made and what strategies we chose to effectively document the renovation. We also discuss the challenges we have encountered, and how we overcame those challenges to reach student audiences in new and engaging ways.
