The Many Wives Of General August V. Kautz: Colonization In The Pacific Northwest, 1853-1895, Nicole Ann Kindle
The Many Wives Of General August V. Kautz: Colonization In The Pacific Northwest, 1853-1895, Nicole Ann Kindle
Dissertations and Theses
This thesis is about the colonization of the West, with an emphasis on the Pacific Northwest from 1853 to 1895. It analyzes the historical processes occurring as America expanded westward through the lens of the Kautz family. August Kautz and his wives tell the story of colonization through unique and vastly different ways. This thesis argues that a microanalysis of the Kautz family history tells a greater story of colonization, one rife with complicated layers influenced by race, class, and societal expectations that shaped individual roles within colonization.
August Kautz was a lieutenant when he first arrived in the Pacific …

Le Grotesque: Balbutiements Et Modernites. De La Creation D'Une Categorie Esthetique A Son Renouvellement Dans Le Theatre Du Vingtieme Siecle, Agnes Dengreville
LSU Doctoral Dissertations
In an attempt to comprehend the notion of Grotesque, this study examines the evolution of one of the most polymorphic, elusive and evolving aesthetic categories in Art and Literature at two moments of its history: its emergence as a critical term in the Arts; and its crucial reappearance in modern age. Indeed, those eras continue to prove challenging. The study of the early stages recieve considerable attention in this critique. Yet, the only conclusion that can be drawn from this is the lack of critical consensus on key points such as: What is the Grotesque; When did it appear or …

Gulf War illness (GWI) is characterized by the persistence of inflammatory bowel disease, chronic fatigue, neuroinflammation, headache, cognitive impairment, and other medically unexplained conditions. Results using a murine model show that enteric viral populations especially bacteriophages were altered in GWI. The increased viral richness and alpha diversity correlated positively with gut bacterial dysbiosis and proinflammatory cytokines. Altered virome signature in GWI mice also had a concomitant weakening of intestinal epithelial tight junctions with a significant increase in Claudin-2 protein expression and decrease in ZO1 and Occludin mRNA expression. The altered virome signature in GWI, decreased tight junction protein level was …

Education in the United States has changed, and the role of school counselors has had to change to meet the demands of a more competitive, complex environment. Today, the DePaul's College of Education offers master’s degree tracks in school counseling, college counseling and student affairs, and clinical mental health counseling. In 2019, all three specialty areas were accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs, a major achievement by a program known for its rigorous pursuit of excellence. Among its many successes, the program boasts two alumni, Kirsten Perry (MEd ’11) and Brian Coleman (MEd ’14), …

La Naissance De L’Autofiction Silencieuse Dans Le Cinéma D’Elia Suleiman : « Hommage Par Assassinat » (1992), Sandra Fatté
Regards
This article questions the link between the aesthetics of silence shaped by Suleiman and his quest for identity. Through the analysis of the second short film by this Palestinian director, Homage by Assassination (1992), we underline this aesthetic and its stakes. In this film, Elia Suleiman incarnates ES, the silent character who appears for the first time on screen; he will be present in his three subsequent feature films. The story takes place one night during the Gulf War in a New York apartment where ES investigates the notion of identity. We introduce the notion of silent autofiction before analysing …
