First Observation Of The Directed Flow Of D0 And D0 ̄ In Au+ Au Collisions At Snn= 200 Gev, Ahmad Hamed
Faculty Journal Articles
We report the first measurement of rapidity-odd directed flow (v1) for D0 and D0̄ mesons at midrapidity (|y|<0.8) in Au+Au collisions at sNN=200 GeV using the STAR detector at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. In 10-80% Au+Au collisions, the slope of the v1 rapidity dependence (dv1/dy), averaged over D0 and D0̄ mesons, is -0.080±0.017(stat)±0.016(syst) for transverse momentum pT above 1.5 GeV/c. The absolute value of D0 meson dv1/dy is about 25 times larger than that for charged kaons, with 3.4σ significance. These data give a unique insight into the initial tilt of the produced matter, and offer constraints on the geometric and transport parameters of the hot QCD medium created in relativistic heavy-ion collisions.

Tanzania Journal of Science
The Kihansi Spray Toad (Nectophrynoides asperginis) is considered to be extinct in the wild. Captive breeding populations exist in Bronx and Toledo zoos in USA and in two captive breeding facilities in Tanzania. Efforts to reintroduce the species back to its natural habitat at Kihansi Gorge wetlands have become a long process. Both ex-situ and in-situ experiments have revealed promising outcomes but when the toads are freely (hard) released in the wetlands they disperse widely and detection becomes difficult. Cages for acclimatising the toads before hard release have been constructed in two of the Kihansi Gorge spray wetlands. Factors such …

Faculty Journal Articles
The time-diffraction technique introduced by Porras recently is motivated in this article in terms of the Lorentz invariance of the equation governing the narrow angular spectrum and narrowband temporal spectrum paraxial approximation and it is used to derive finite-energy spatiotemporally confined subluminal, luminal and superluminal Airy wave packets. In addition, a novel exact finite-energy luminal Airy splash mode-type solution to the scalar wave equation is derived using Bateman’s conformal transformation.

We report on the optimized fabrication of ultrathin wall nanotubes grown on Ti–Nb alloy via anodization in organic-based electrolytes. The nanotubes are vertically aligned with wall thicknesses of 5–8 nm, diameters of 180–200 nm, and lengths of 2–2.8 μm. Raman spectroscopy and glancing angle x-ray diffraction (GAXRD) measurements indicated the formation of composite oxides of anatase TiO2 and monoclinic Nb2O5. The composite oxides showed better stability at elevated temperatures up to 650 ᵒC and with much smaller induced microstrain compared to the TiO2 counterpart. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis confirmed the composition of the fabricated nanotubes as a mixed TiO2–Nb2O5 …
Longitudinal Double-Spin Asymmetry For Inclusive Jet And Dijet Production In P P Collisions At S= 510 Gev, Ahmad Hamed
Longitudinal Double-Spin Asymmetry For Inclusive Jet And Dijet Production In P P Collisions At S= 510 Gev, Ahmad Hamed
Faculty Journal Articles
We report the first measurement of the inclusive jet and the dijet longitudinal double-spin asymmetries, ALL, at midrapidity in polarized pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy s=510 GeV. The inclusive jet ALL measurement is sensitive to the gluon helicity distribution down to a gluon momentum fraction of x≈0.015, while the dijet measurements, separated into four jet-pair topologies, provide constraints on the x dependence of the gluon polarization. Both results are consistent with previous measurements made at s=200 GeV in the overlapping kinematic region, x>0.05, and show good agreement with predictions from recent next-to-leading order global analyses.

Open heavy-flavor hadrons provide unique probes of the medium produced in ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions. Due to their increased mass relative to light-flavor hadrons, long lifetime, and early production in hard-scattering interactions, they provide access to the full evolution of the partonic medium formed in heavy-ion collisions. This paper reports two-dimensional (2D) angular correlations between neutral D mesons and unidentified charged particles produced in minimum-bias Au+Au collisions at sNN=200GeV. D0 and D¯0 mesons are reconstructed via their weak decay to Kπ± using the Heavy Flavor Tracker in the Solenoidal Tracker at RHIC experiment. Correlations on relative pseudorapidity and azimuth (Δη,Δφ) are …

Based on a well-known large mode area (LMA) single mode PCF, two different configurations have been studied to investigate the impact of the etching process on the biosensor sensitivity. Furthermore, the possibility of infiltrating one hole by a plasmonic material to increases the biosensor sensitivity is studied. A full vectorial finite element method (FVFEM) is used to carry out the analysis of the reported biosensor. In addition, the geometrical parameters of the suggested biosensors have been optimized to obtain …

A simple approach is demonstrated to prepare functionalized spongy graphene/cobalt sulfide (FG-CoS)nanocomposites as interconnected, porous 3-dimensional (3D)network crinkly sheets. Such crinkly sheets contain the reduced spongy graphene oxide (SGO)sheets and the intercalated CoS nanoparticles within the spongy graphene. The fabricated FG-CoS composites were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and Raman spectroscopy. The synthesized materials were tested as supercapacitor materials in 3 M KOH using cyclic voltammetry (CV)at different potential scan rates, and galvanostatic charge/discharge tests at different current densities. The FG-CoS electrodes showed a maximum specific capacitance of 1072 F/g at a …
