Improving Neonatal Outcomes: Multidisciplinary Treatment Approach To Caring For Pregnant Persons With Opioid Use Disorder, Nancy S. Goldstein, Erica Nichole Ramirez, Lauren Elizabeth Greenwood, Kodiak Ray Sung Soled, Laura Stinnette Lucas

Biennial Convention (CONV)

A trauma-informed, multidisciplinary team (MDT) approach has shown improved outcomes for childbearing individuals with opioid use disorder (OUD) and their neonates. Opioid agonist treatment (OAT) remains the first-line treatment option. Evidence-based practice should guide practitioners to utilize a variety of interventions, particularly during this vulnerable and medically resource intensive time.

Effects Of A Cooperative Learning Intervention Program On Cyberbullying In Secondary Education: A Case Study, David Hortigüela Alcalá, Javier Fernández Río, Gustavo González Calvo, Ángel Pérez Pueyo Oct 2019

Effects Of A Cooperative Learning Intervention Program On Cyberbullying In Secondary Education: A Case Study, David Hortigüela Alcalá, Javier Fernández Río, Gustavo González Calvo, Ángel Pérez Pueyo

The Qualitative Report

The goal was to assess the effects of an intervention program, based on cooperative learning and involving the whole school community, on the emotional and social evolution of a student who had suffered cyberbullying. The student, her parents, the school administration, a teacher and the student's classmates agreed to participate in the study. A qualitative research design was used, which included interviews, discussion groups and diaries. The information obtained was structured in three categories: cyberbullying detection and response, psychoeducational intervention program, and emotional and social evolution. Results showed that the program produced significant improvements in the cyberbullied adolescent's emotional and …

Ilc3s Integrate Glycolysis And Mitochondrial Production Of Reactive Oxygen Species To Fulfill Activation Demands, Blanda Di Luccia, Susan Gilfillan, Marina Cella, Marco Colonna, Stanley Ching-Cheng Huang Oct 2019

Ilc3s Integrate Glycolysis And Mitochondrial Production Of Reactive Oxygen Species To Fulfill Activation Demands, Blanda Di Luccia, Susan Gilfillan, Marina Cella, Marco Colonna, Stanley Ching-Cheng Huang

Open Access Publications

Group 3 innate lymphoid cells (ILC3s) are the innate counterparts of Th17 that require the transcription factor RORγt for development and contribute to the defense against pathogens through IL-22 and IL-17 secretion. Proliferation and effector functions of Th17 require a specific mTOR-dependent metabolic program that utilizes high-rate glycolysis, while mitochondrial lipid oxidation and production of reactive oxygen species (mROS) support alternative T reg cell differentiation. Whether ILC3s employ a specific metabolic program is not known. Here, we find that ILC3s rely on mTOR complex 1 (mTORC1) for proliferation and production of IL-22 and IL-17A after in vitro activation and Citrobacter …

Sponsored Research Indirect Costs: A Single-Site Case Study Of Public Research University Stem Faculty Members’ Perspectives, Susan Gossman Oct 2019

Sponsored Research Indirect Costs: A Single-Site Case Study Of Public Research University Stem Faculty Members’ Perspectives, Susan Gossman

The Qualitative Report

This explanatory case study investigated the phenomenon of one institution’s public research university STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) faculty members’ perspectives on indirect cost recovery from research grant funding. The explanatory scheme incorporated organizational culture, faculty socialization, and political bargaining models in the conceptual framework. The analysis indicated that faculty socialization and organizational culture were the most dominant themes; political bargaining emerged as significantly less prominent. Public research university STEM faculty are most concerned about the survival of their research programs and the discovery facilitated by their research programs; they resort to conjecture regarding the utility of indirect cost …

Acoustic propagation measurements were conducted in a Thalassia testudinum meadow in the Lower Laguna Madre, a shallow bay on the Texas Gulf of Mexico coast. A piezoelectric source transmitted frequency-modulated chirps (0.1 to 100 kHz) over a 24-h period during which oceanographic probes measured environmental parameters including dissolved oxygen and solar irradiance. Compared to a nearby less vegetated area, the received level was lower by as much as 30 dB during the early morning hours. At the peak of photosynthesis-driven bubble production in the late afternoon, an additional decrease in level of 11 dB was observed.

Eating And Related Disorders: Implications For The Deaf Community, Marie Egbert Rendon, Connie G. Hills, Emily Smith Rappold

JADARA

Therapists and counselors who work with deaf clients are beginning to note that some form of eating disorders and distortions in body image perception do exist. To understand the difficulty of eating and related disorders and their inroads into the deaf community, it is important to know the differences between the various related disorders. This article introduces eating disorders and body perception and provides a brief look at some of the ways in which counselors might be more attuned to the prevalence of these disorders among their deaf clients.

Avian Taxonomic And Functional Diversity In Early Stage Of Longleaf Pine (Pinus Palustris) Stands Restored At Agricultural Lands: Variations In Scale Dependency, Myung-Bok Lee, Brian J. Gates, Robert J. Cooper, John P. Carroll

School of Natural Resources: Faculty Publications

In agricultural landscapes, the Longleaf Pine Initiative (LLPI) and the Bobwhite Quail Initiative (BQI) aim to restore longleaf pine forests and early successional habitats, respectively. The early stage of longleaf pine stands and grass and forb vegetation produced by a combination of both restoration programs (LLPI-BQI) may form habitat conditions favorable to early successional bird species and other birds, increasing avian diversity. We investigated how the LLPI and BQI programs affected taxonomic and functional diversity of birds and abundance of early successional birds (grassland and scrub/shrub species), and what environmental characteristics were associated with the diversity and abundance of birds. …
