Real-Time Reconstruction And Simulation Of Police Dog Posture Based On Multi-Sensor Data Vest, Chaozheng Zhu, He Ming, Yang Sheng, Yang Cheng, Zhenhua Song
Journal of System Simulation
Abstract: Real-time police dog posture reconstruction provides an intelligent, convenient and over-the-horizon interactive way for police on duty with dogs. For the biological movement characteristics of police dogs, a new multi-sensor dog data vest was designed and implemented. Based on multiple small size and low power consumption sensors, a new police dog motion fusion method was proposed to capture the different posture data of police dogs, including standing, sitting and prone position, etc. For frequent jitter of police dogs, this paper proposed a method of dog posture reconstruction based on multi-sensor data vest, and introduced an improved kernel function ELM …

School of Biological Sciences: Faculty Publications
This paper is concerned with a late stage of lymphangiogenesis in the trunk of the zebrafish embryo. At 48 hours pos-fertilisation (HPF), a pool of parachordal lymphangioblasts (PLs) lies in the horizontal myoseptum. Between 48 and 168 HPF, the PLs spread from the horizontal myoseptum to form the throacic duct, dorsal longitudinal lymphatic vessel, and parachordal lymphatic vessel. This paper deals wit hthe potential of vascular endothelial growth factor C (VEGFC) to guide the differentiation of PLs into the mature lymphatic endothelial cells that form the vessels. We built a mathematical model to describe the biochemical interactions between VEGFC, collagen …

Bacteriophages (phages) are vital members of the human microbiota. They are abundant even within low biomass niches of the human body, including the lower urinary tract. While several prior studies have cultured bacteria from kidney stones, this is the first study to explore phages within the kidney stone microbiota. Here we report Dobby, a temperate phage isolated from a strain of Pseudomonas aeruginosa cultured from a kidney stone. Dobby is capable of lysing clinical P. aeruginosa strains within our collection from the urinary tract. Sequencing was performed producing a 37 152 bp genome that closely resembles the temperate P. aeruginosa …
Complete Coverage Belief Function Path Planning Algorithm Of Autonomous Underwater Vehiclebased On Behavior Strategy, Wenyang Gan, Daqi Zhu
Complete Coverage Belief Function Path Planning Algorithm Of Autonomous Underwater Vehiclebased On Behavior Strategy, Wenyang Gan, Daqi Zhu
Journal of System Simulation
Abstract: For the complete coverage path planning of autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV), a complete coverage belief function path planning algorithm based on behavior strategy is proposed by introducing the behavior strategy and using the concept of map belief function, which can make AUV accomplish the complete coverage and avoid obstacles automatically. The grid belief function is constructed based on environmental information, using different function values to distinguish between the obstacle, the covered and the uncovered grid. AUV selects the next navigation position by path planning strategy. Next navigation position is selected by behavior strategy if AUV navigates to the …
The Consistent Ethic Of Life Of Joseph Cardinal Bernardin And The Crisis Of Our Common Home, Anatoly Angelo R. Aseneta
The Consistent Ethic Of Life Of Joseph Cardinal Bernardin And The Crisis Of Our Common Home, Anatoly Angelo R. Aseneta
Landas
The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines describes the ecological crisis as the "ultimate pro-life issues." Popes John Paul II, Benedict XVI, and Francis have all emphasized that environmental degradation and human life are inseparably linked, disproportionately affecting the vulnerable. This essay examines the crisis through Joseph Cardinal Bernardin’s "consistent ethic of life" (CEL), arguing that it must expand to incorporate ecological concerns. By bridging CEL with Pope Francis’s "integral ecology," the author surveys climate challenges and reframes the CEL to be more ecologically sensitive, ultimately offering actionable ways in which this expanded moral vision can help protect our common …
Investigations Into Aspergillus Flavus Infection Of Corn And Regulation Of Aflatoxin Production By Volatiles And Biocontrol Strains, Rebecca R. Sweany
Investigations Into Aspergillus Flavus Infection Of Corn And Regulation Of Aflatoxin Production By Volatiles And Biocontrol Strains, Rebecca R. Sweany
LSU Doctoral Dissertations
Aspergillus flavus is an ascomycete fungus impacting agriculture, public and environmental health due to production of acutely-toxic, carcinogenic aflatoxins in oil seed crops, especially corn in Louisiana, and lung infections of immunocompromised patients resulting in a leading cause of AIDS patients’ deaths globally. The most effective aflatoxin mitigation strategy, biocontrol by atoxigenic A. flavus presents several concerns including: dissemination of a human pathogen, possible sexual reproduction and reliance on precise environmental conditions. Several aspects of A. flavus biology were investigated to potentially improve treatments. Studies investigated how genotypically diverse members within the A. flavus population interact with other population members …

Toward The Impact Of Particulate Matter On Human Health: Evaluation Of Fluorescent Environmentally Persistent Free Radical (Epfr) Surrogates, Ansonia Badgett
LSU Doctoral Dissertations
Environmentally persistent free radicals (EPFRs)—a newly discovered pollutant associated with particulate matter (PM)—form during combustion and thermal processes, such as the incineration of hazardous waste. Various chlorine- and hydroxy-substituted benzenes chemisorb on the surface of metal oxides (e.g., NiO, CuO, and Fe2O3) and then form EPFRs, stabilized radical species, as the result of the transfer of electrons between the adsorbate and the metal ion of the metal oxide. Previous studies have shown direct correlations between ultra-fine (d < 0.1 mm) particulate matter (PM0.1) exposure and adverse pulmonary health effects. PM0.1 has the potential …

A Review Of The Reproductive Habitat Preferences And Conservation Challenges Of A Rare, Transient, And Ecologically Restricted Darner Dragonfly: Rhionaeschna Mutata, Emily G. Schilling, Ron Lawrenz, Holly Kundel
Faculty Authored Articles
Rhionaeschna mutata is a rare North American dragonfly that is considered a species of concern or threatened throughout its range. It is most widely distributed in the eastern USA, but recent adult records indicate that its range extends further north and west than previously known. Effective conservation planning for rare species requires understanding their habitat requirements, and no comprehensive characterization of this species’ reproductive habitat has previously been conducted. We conducted a review to synthesize information from records throughout this species’ range and identified a narrow set of conditions that describe R. mutata reproductive habitat: small, heavily vegetated, fish-free ponds …

The New England cottontail (Sylvilagus transitionalis) is the focus of extensive efforts to conserve the species. A major component of their conservation program is the collection of faecal samples to determine their distribution and abundance throughout their range. In parts of their range, New England cottontail is sympatric with a non-native eastern cottontail (S. floridanus) and snowshoe hare (Lepus americanus). Because faecal samples from all three lagomorphs are indistinguishable, a reliable molecular genetic method for specimen identification is necessary. We tested the efficacy of a diagnostic character method by analyzing sequence data from 1770 faecal, blood, and tissue samples collected …

Sex‐Biased Survival Contributes To Population Decline In A Long‐Lived Seabird, The Magellanic Penguin, Natasha J. Gownaris, P. D. Boersma
Environmental Studies Faculty Publications
We developed a Hidden Markov mark–recapture model (R package marked) to examine sex‐specific demography in Magellanic Penguins (Spheniscus magellanicus ). Our model was based on 33 yr of resightings at Punta Tombo, Argentina, where we banded ~44,000 chicks from 1983 to 2010. Because we sexed only 57% of individuals over their lifetime, we treated sex as an uncertain state in our model. Our goals were to provide insight into the population dynamics of this declining colony, to inform conservation of this species, and to highlight the importance of considering sex‐specific vital rates in demographic seabird studies. Like many other …
Spectral Variability Of Oil Slicks Under Different Observing Conditions Derived From Satellite And Airborne Optical Remote Sensing, Chuanmin Hu
C-IMAGE data
In this dataset, we present the spectral variability of oil slicks under different observing conditions using MODIS (Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer), MERIS (Medium Resolution Imaging Spectrometer), MISR (Multi-angle Imaging SpectroRadiometer), Landsat 7 Enhanced Thematic Mapper Plus (ETM+) and AVIRIS (Airborne Visible/ Infrared Imaging Spectrometer). Optical remote sensing is commonly used to detect oil in the surface ocean due to the spectral differences between oil and water, allowing to modulate oil–water spatial and spectral contrasts. However, understanding these contrasts is challenging because of variable results from laboratory and field experiments, as well as different observing conditions and spatial/spectral resolutions of remote …

Optimal Economic Dispatch Of Microgrid Based On Immune Particle Swarm Optimization Algorithm, Gao Cong, Dinghui Wu, Tinglong Pan, Zhicheng Ji
Journal of System Simulation
Abstract: Some restrictions are accompanied when solving the optimal economic dispatch of microgrid, such as multi-constraints, discontinuities and multi-generators. An immune particle swarm optimization (IMPSO) algorithm is proposed, which introduces the artificial immune system into particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm and can ensure the PSO convergence as well as exerting the immune mechanism to make the particles uniformly distributed in solution plane. The algorithm possesses the virtues like global probe and robustness and is used to solve two operating modes of island and grid- connected in microgrid respectively. The experimental results show that the IMPSO provides a feasible and advanced …

A Deep Spatio-Temporal Rnns Based Coordinated Operational Action Recognition, Yi Zhuo, Liao Ying, Xiaofeng Hu, Xuehui Du, Zhu Feng
Journal of System Simulation
Abstract: To address the issues of large feature space, numerous model parameters and slow training speed in coordinated operation action recognition, a coordinated operational action recognition method based on a deep spatio-temporal recurrent neural network is proposed. In this method, a warped region generation mechanism is introduced to divide the whole battlefield into sub-battlefield. Meanwhile, a hierarchical recurrent neural network is constructed using spatio-temporal graph model, which is applied to the generated sub-battlefield to recognize coordinated operational action. Additionally, the recognized coordinated operational actions of sub-battlefields are merged to find out all coordinated operational actions based on the principle of …

Clean Water Rule: Can Business Afford Otherwise?, Marguerite Mills
Emory Business Law Review Perspectives
The current administration has been consistent in its message to reduce regulation. By engaging in 'bold anti-regulatory rhetoric,' President Trump is reinforcing the idea that all regulation is inherently bad for Americans and American business. The Trump administration has cut regulation across the board but particularly in the policy area of immigration, banking, healthcare and the environment. This Perspective will focus on environmental regulation, specifically the Clean Water Rule (CWR) and how this regulation is not only appropriately stringent, but essential for keeping businesses alive.

River ecosystems receive and process vast quantities of terrestrial organic carbon, the fate of which depends strongly on microbial activity. Variation in and controls of processing rates, however, are poorly characterized at the global scale. In response, we used a peer-sourced research network and a highly standardized carbon processing assay to conduct a global-scale field experiment in greater than 1000 river and riparian sites. We found that Earth’s biomes have distinct carbon processing signatures. Slow processing is evident across latitudes, whereas rapid rates are restricted to lower latitudes. Both the mean rate and variability decline with latitude, suggesting temperature constraints …

Control of neuronal precursor cell proliferation is essential for normal brain development, and deregulation of this fundamental developmental event contributes to brain diseases. Typically, neuronal precursor cell proliferation extends over long periods of time during brain development. However, how neuronal precursor proliferation is regulated in a temporally specific manner remains to be elucidated. Here, we report that conditional KO of the transcriptional regulator SnoN in cerebellar granule neuron precursors robustly inhibits the proliferation of these cells and promotes their cell cycle exit at later stages of cerebellar development in the postnatal male and female mouse brain. In laser capture microdissection …

Abstract: In order to solve the shortcomings in cuckoo search algorithm, such as slow convergence, low accuracy and easy to fall into the local optimal solution, an improved cuckoo search algorithm is proposed: CS-EO search algorithm. In this search algorithm, the fast convergence speed and global searching advantage of CS algorithm and the strong local search ability of EO algorithm are combined organically. Under the premise of guaranteeing the solving speed, the accuracy of the solution is improved. The results of optimization test functions show that CS- EO algorithm has better optimization performance compared with CS algorithm and PSO …
