Who's Your Hoosier? How External Factors Affect Judgement When Choosing Romantic Partners At Indiana Colleges, Amanda Rosenfeld Jan 2019

Who's Your Hoosier? How External Factors Affect Judgement When Choosing Romantic Partners At Indiana Colleges, Amanda Rosenfeld

Undergraduate Honors Thesis Collection

Most of the literature on online dating addresses what makes a profile more desirable. However, little research has been done examining why someone can be drawn to an adverse profile (i.e. a profile containing clear ’red-flag’ traits). This study will analyze how two types of external influence, recommendations provided by a computer algorithm and consensus information provided by peers, interact to affect judgement in the context of using a dating application to choose hypothetical romantic partners. The romantic experience level of each participant will also be analyzed to see if lack of experience moderates how much individuals rely on external …

The Effects Of Social Media Use On The Perceptions Of Mental Illness Among College Students, Brea Fisher Jan 2019

The Effects Of Social Media Use On The Perceptions Of Mental Illness Among College Students, Brea Fisher

Undergraduate Honors Thesis Collection

This study examined individuals’ use of and perceptions of social media networking sites (i.e. Facebook and Twitter) on their perceptions of mental illness. Previous studies have consistently found that media, by means of TV shows, movies, and news reports, depict distorted views of the mentally ill. Previous studies have also consistently found that these media depictions are related to increased stigma of mental illness and the mentally ill. This current study goes a step further by examining the role of social media networking sites on individual’s perceptions, since they are newer and more widely used forms of social media today. …

Invisible Minds: Marginalizing Minority Women In The American Academy Of Higher Education, Gianna Kujawski Jan 2019

Invisible Minds: Marginalizing Minority Women In The American Academy Of Higher Education, Gianna Kujawski

Undergraduate Honors Thesis Collection

"The year 2018 witnessed the evolution of the #MeToo movement, which spurred more women to run for U.S. political office than ever before and women to ascend to the position of CEO in male-dominated fields. The representation of female voices has grown with the times, but there is one institution that continues to silence women: the American Academy of Higher Education. The world of academia remains a male-dominated field which marginalizes women and people of color, and thus leaves little to no room for women of color. Unfortunately, the problem is deep-seated within the academy, and is continuously perpetuated by …

Passive Voter Suppresion: Campaign Moblization And The Effective Disfranchisment Of The Poor, Douglas M. Spencer, Bertrand L. Ross Ii Jan 2019

Passive Voter Suppresion: Campaign Moblization And The Effective Disfranchisment Of The Poor, Douglas M. Spencer, Bertrand L. Ross Ii

Faculty Articles and Papers

A recent spate of election laws tightened registration rules, reduced convenient voting opportunities, and required voters to show specific types of identification in order to vote. Because these laws make voting more difficult, critics have analogized them to Jim Crow Era voter suppression laws.

We challenge the analogy that current restrictive voting laws are a reincarnation of Jim Crow Era voter suppression. While there are some notable similarities, the analogy obscures a more apt comparison to a different form of voter suppression-one that operates to effectively disfranchise an entire class of people, just as the old form did for African …

The Need For Green Companies In Nigeria: A Study Of Electronic Invoicing, Sunday Adewale Olaleye, Ismaila Temitayo Sanusi

The African Journal of Information Systems

Manual invoicing is a major business document that the supplier uses to request payments from a purchaser for services rendered. It contains the contact information of the seller, the list of goods or the services provided and the payment instructions. Attention is being shifted from manual invoicing these days because of some factors like increased man-hours, risks of human error and risks of high carbon footprint. The study applied Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) to investigate the need for green Companies in Nigeria. Empirical data were collected from Nigerian companies to measure intention-behavior for electronic invoicing …

Assessing Knowledge, Attitude And Practices Of Hand Hygiene Among University Students, Linda Afia Mbroh

All Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Other Capstone Projects

Objective: Proper hand hygiene is the key to reducing occurrence of infectious diseases in many different types of communities, including the healthcare settings, daycare centers, and grade schools. College students have been found to inadequately wash their hands, which increases their chances of contracting infectious diseases. The purpose of this research is to assess the knowledge, attitude and practices of hand hygiene among students at a large midwestern university.

Participants and Methods: Using a cross- sectional survey, and three self-reported questionnaires, data were collected from 406 undergraduate students, ages 18 years of age and above enrolled at Minnesota State University, …
