Nulungu Insights
In September 2019 the Nulungu Research Institute hosted 20 judges from the District Court of Western Australia (WA) and five justices of the Supreme Court of WA at the University of Notre Dame Australia (UNDA) Broome Campus for a cultural immersion experience and judicial conference. The program included an overnight trip to Karajarri country and a visit to the Bidyadanga Aboriginal Community (formerly La Grange Mission). The aim was to provide the judicial officers with an insight into the contexts of Aboriginal people living in remote parts of the Kimberley, and to offer tailored professional development sessions to assist them …

Adolescent Sense Of Belonging In Outdoor Adventure Education: The Influence Of Conflict And Instructors, Jeremy Jostad, Jim Sibthorp, Jonathan E. Butner, Shannon Rochelle
Research in Outdoor Education
Outdoor adventure education programs are strategically positioned to provide a multitude of positive social outcomes for youth. The social connections adolescents develop with their peers are critically important for positive youth development. This study sought to understand how sense of belonging develops within a wilderness-based outdoor adventure education program while using a dynamical systems theory (DST) framework and analysis. The findings showed that group-based components, such as process conflict influenced the rate of change while instructor support increased the level of sense of belonging students felt. Implications for research and practice are discussed.

Kan In Don Nah (All Are Welcome Here): A Framework For Developing Intercultural Worship Practice At First Chin Baptist Church Of New Bern, North Carolina, Janice Daynette Snead
Doctor of Ministry Projects
The process of intercultural ministry across human boundaries is modeled throughout the ministry of Jesus Christ. Regardless of culture, the scriptures actively engage understanding of God’s Word for all the people and His love to reach each one. This project sought to encourage a biblical understanding of intercultural discipleship by guiding the worshiping community of First Chin Baptist Church through a four-week ministry project to welcome and worship with non-Chin guests. Through a series of study on John 21:1-17, the community discovered a new biblical and theological foundation for understanding and guiding non-Chin guests before, during, and after worship to …

Sustaining Lamentation In Traumatic Grief Through The Contemporary Elegy: A Practical Theology Of The Poetics Of Testimony, Patricia Shawn Fawson
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This project addresses the problem that sustaining lamentation for particular testimonies of bereaved people is not supported culturally or spiritually by current practices of mourning. In a democracy, religious leaders become public theologians who respect and respond to diverse religious, political, historical, and economic interests without losing focus on the individual, family, and corporate systems and the ongoing elements of traumatic grief. In the context of lamentation and memorialization, when spiritual caregiver fail to acknowledge potentials for particular ways of mourning to contribute to empowerment and healing, mourners' grief can be foreclosed.
In North America, the dominant rhetoric of public …
