Perspectives Of Student Dis/Engagement In Youth Attending An Alternative School As Viewed Through A Lens Of Respect And Relationships, Daniel Vallee

Dissertations, Theses, and Capstone Projects

This study enlists the voices of youth attending an Alternative School in a small town in Western Canada to further theorize what it means to be dis/engaged with/from school. Findings suggest that school relationships with both staff and peers are key to understanding student dis/engagement, and that relationships are understood in terms of their degree of respect or un/fairness.

God Likes Sex: Conversations Integrating Spirituality And Sexuality, Jennie Armstrong Feb 2019

God Likes Sex: Conversations Integrating Spirituality And Sexuality, Jennie Armstrong

Doctor of Ministry

Throughout Christian history, the Church has provided inconsistent messages about the spiritual foundation for healthy sexuality. With avoidant messages of silence and shame around sexual topics from the Church, many emergent women separate their spirituality from their sexual lives, never considering scripture as a guideline for healthy sexuality. Emergent adult women, specifically those without strong spiritual foundations, are more likely to engage in unhealthy sexual behaviors which often leave them feeling alone and separate from God and spiritual community. Because popular culture does not support marriage as a moral requirement for a sexual relationship, present cultural messages advocate that these …

Becoming Stuck In Complicated Grief: Turning Loss Into Resilience, Hope, And Healing, Elizabeth (Pam) Strachan-Proudfit

Doctor of Ministry

Grief is a natural and normal experience reaching back to the narrative of creation. Research has revealed that about 80 to 90 percent of grievers experience normal or uncomplicated grief while a small percentage ranging from 10 to 20 percent struggled with complicated grief responses. This small percentage is the focus of this dissertation. Those who experience complicated grief are observed to become stuck and unable to move through the grieving process independently. Grievers who are stuck appear to have on-going difficulty in their spiritual, emotional, cognitive, and even physical health. The uniqueness of grief is not only real with …

Availability And Use Of Records For Decision Making In The Church Of Nigeria (Anglican, Bosede Adebimpe Ajiboye Phd, Mariam Kehinde Alawiye Mrs., Fauziyah Nihinlolawa Adenekan Mrs

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)

Records provide evidence of policies and support decision-making in an organisation. This study examined the use of records for decision-making in the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion).

Survey design of the ex-post facto type was used and premised on the records life cycle model. Stratified sampling technique was adopted to select seven (7) provinces out of 14, random sampling technique was used to select 720 administrative priests and this was followed by disproportionate random sampling technique to select 50% of them. This gave a total of 360 respondents. A questionnaire placed on a 2-point Likert scale of disagree and agree, …

Operationalizing A Theoretical Framework To Improve Patient Perception Of Care, Debra J. Morton Jan 2019

Operationalizing A Theoretical Framework To Improve Patient Perception Of Care, Debra J. Morton

DNP Qualifying Manuscripts

The Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services publicly report information that allows comparisons to be made across all hospitals to support consumer choice. A hospital’s reputation, coupled with the financial impact, depends on patient satisfaction, which must be taken seriously. Care experience scores are primarily nurse-driven, and nurse leaders have a large responsibility to produce results. The practice of commanding and directive leadership has never been effective long term. Nurses want leaders to make sense of a situation and explain the why. The need to inspire and create alternative ways to help nurses connect purpose to practice is imperative …

Strengthening The Soul Of Your Leadership, Ruth Haley Barton

Symposium on Worship Archive

Do you ever feel as if your leadership is something you “put on” for particular occasions rather than a dynamic that emerges from deep within you? Is the pressure to perform compromising your own experience of worship? Do you find yourself manufacturing emotion as you lead others because your own intimacy with God has grown cold? In this workshop we will share honestly about the challenges of spiritual leadership in a high-performance culture. Ruth Haley Barton will help you assess the state of your soul and then explore crucial disciplines for strengthening the soul of your leadership.

Understanding Face And Shame: A Servant-Leadership And Face Management Model, Jiying Song Jan 2019

Understanding Face And Shame: A Servant-Leadership And Face Management Model, Jiying Song

Faculty Publications - George Fox Digital

Clergy can have a negative impact on churches and other individuals when they knowingly or unknowingly attempt to save face, that is, try to protect their standing or reputation. The desire to gain face and the fear of losing face and feeling ashamed will likely permeate clergy’s decision-making processes without even being noticed. This study explores the essence of face and face management and the relationship between face management and two characteristics of servant-leadership—awareness and healing—in both Chinese and American churches through the methodology of hermeneutic phenomenology. Prior to this study, to my knowledge, no hermeneutic phenomenological research of face …

Fast And Furious: The Hiv Epidemic In The Philippines, James Mctavish Jan 2019

Fast And Furious: The Hiv Epidemic In The Philippines, James Mctavish

Landas

Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, the Philippines faces a rapidly accelerating HIV epidemic. According to James McTavish’s data from 1984 to 2019, cumulative infections reached 69,512, predominantly affecting males. While heterosexual contact previously dominated transmission, males who have sex with males (MSM)—particularly young men and adolescents—are now the highest-risk group. This shift is partially linked to the country’s high cultural acceptance of homosexuality. Consequently, this crisis presents a major challenge for the local Church to effectively communicate its moral teachings, specifically distinguishing homosexual orientation, which may not be the fault of a person, and homosexual acts, which are sinful.

The Semantic Metamorphosis Of “Evangelization”: Formulating A Definition Of Evangelization Based On Action, Content, And Result, Moses Jarvis R. Catan Jan 2019

The Semantic Metamorphosis Of “Evangelization”: Formulating A Definition Of Evangelization Based On Action, Content, And Result, Moses Jarvis R. Catan

Landas

The 500th anniversary of Philippine Christianity offers gratitude for the Spanish missionaries who introduced the faith, yet highlights the urgent need to nurture this heritage toward works of love and justice. As Moses Jarvis R. Catan’s essay suggests, the effective inculcation of Gospel values remains incomplete after five centuries. Facing modern challenges like secularization and declining faith among youth, the Church must embark on a New Evangelization. This contemporary mission demands a proactive role for the laity, along with innovative approaches and creative tools, to ensure the Christian faith matures and actively transforms contemporary Philippine society.

The Mission-Vision Of John Paul Ii In Redemptoris Missio, James H. Kroeger Jan 2019

The Mission-Vision Of John Paul Ii In Redemptoris Missio, James H. Kroeger

Landas

The contemporary Church's missionary consciousness has been shaped by pivotal papal documents, from Benedict XV’s Maximum Illud to Francis’s Evangelii Gaudium. This reflection focuses on Redemptoris Missio (RM), the landmark 1990 mission encyclical by St. John Paul II. Marking the broader anniversaries of modern mission theology and Vatican II's Ad Gentes, this essay offers a medium-length presentation that highlights the core tenets of RM. Despite the original text's length, this study distills its essential insights to demonstrate the enduring importance of John Paul II's vision for the Church's ongoing commitment to missionary evangelization in the contemporary world.

Theology And Ministry For Mission: Some Orientations After Veritatis Gaudium, Enrico C. Eusebio

Landas

The recent appointment and August 28, 2019, inaugural address of Rev. Enrico C. Eusebio, Jr., S.J., as the 10 th President of the Loyola School of Theology marks a pivotal moment to celebrate the institution's achievements and map out its future direction. Leadership And Faith Formation In Youth Ministry: Explaining The Relationship Between Leadership Experiences And Faith Formation In Middle School Students, Neil A. Christians Jan 2019

Leadership And Faith Formation In Youth Ministry: Explaining The Relationship Between Leadership Experiences And Faith Formation In Middle School Students, Neil A. Christians

Doctor of Ministry Theses

This research project explained how leadership experiences of middle school age students during their time in a youth ministry Confirmation program affected their faith formation. The lenses of Believing, Behaving, and Belonging were helpful in framing a missional view of faith formation. Results revealed these four aspects of leadership experiences to be important to the youth: leadership and helping others are connected, relationships are integral and vital within these experiences, there needs to be an element of fun by making the experience enjoyable and/or meaningful, and leadership experiences bring relevance to a student’s faith both inside and outside of church.

Unity And Diversity: How A Bilingual-Multicultural Congregation Reflects The Nature Of The Trinity In Unity And Diversity, Albert W. Triolo

Doctor of Ministry Theses

This project used the lenses of adaptive change, transculturation, church size theory, love the stranger, led by the Spirit, unity and diversity in God’s family, imago Trinitatis, and missio Dei to study how action research interventions might affect a culturally diverse congregation. It was found that understanding culture is complicated, homogeneous units typically stay apart but do come together, crossing boundaries of homogeneity is difficult, ongoing education helps for transculturation, transculturation comes mostly through conversation, and people can experience Trinitarian equality through transculturation. In short, the Common Culture of a Community is Cultivated in its Context through Conversation and Communion.
