A Reader's Guide To Children's Ministry, Shannon Rains, Jennifer Schroeder, Ron Bruner

Discernment: Theology and the Practice of Ministry

Although the church has long practiced ministry with children, this field of ministerial practice is taking new and exciting shapes in the 21st century. Because of the expanding and substantial body of literature produced in this discipline over the last several decades, we have assembled an annotated bibliography intended to give scholars, practitioners, and church members an overview of the more significant printed work that addresses Christian perspectives on ministry with children.

Marnda Gardairri: Facilitation Of An Indigenous Ranger Rock Art Workshop, Melissa Marshall, Lynley A. Wallis, Kate Golson

Nulungu Insights

The Marnda Gardairri Indigenous Rangers Workshop was held from 3–5 October 2017 on the Burrup Peninsula in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. The event, which was hosted by the Murujuga Aboriginal Corporation (MAC), brought together rangers from across Australia to discuss rock art conservation and management. The workshop was given the title ‘Marnda Gardairri’ as this means rock scratching/engraving on the Burrup Peninsula.

The workshop was developed by MAC in collaborative partnership with Rio Tinto Iron Ore-Pilbara Operations and the Nulungu Research Institute (The University of Notre Dame Australia). Rio Tinto and Woodside Petroleum funded the workshop, with Mel …

Overcoming Barriers: Helping Navy Chaplains Understand The Need And Implementation Of Self-Care, Carl Muehler

Doctor of Ministry Major Applied Project

Muehler, Carl B. “Overcoming Barriers: Helping Navy Chaplains Understand the Need and Implementation of Self-care.” Doctor of Ministry. Major Applied Project, Concordia Seminary, 2019. 115 pp.

The Navy Chaplain serves with Navy, Marine, and Coast Guard personnel throughout the world and often in challenging environments including at sea and combat operations. The Navy Chaplain is unique because the chaplain has complete confidentiality and may be the only caregiver with a deployed unit, which can take its toll on the chaplain. Self-care is critical for the chaplain on a personal level and to maintain effectiveness in the support to the personnel …

School-Based Mental Health Referrals’ Representation Of Actual Mental Health Disorders Among Adolescents, Alva M. Dominguez Jun 2019

School-Based Mental Health Referrals’ Representation Of Actual Mental Health Disorders Among Adolescents, Alva M. Dominguez

Electronic Theses, Projects, and Dissertations

Increasingly, health providers are recognizing the importance of providing behavioral and mental health services to children and adolescents. As a result, school districts are adopting the School-Based Mental Health Program approach to provide mental health services to their students. The purpose of this study is to test if there is a disparity between children being referred due to externalizing behavior versus internalizing behaviors. The data was collected from archival sources, and it was analyzed utilizing the SPSS software for a quantitative and descriptive study. The findings indicated that students experiencing Internalizing and/or Externalizing behaviors are almost equally receiving services. This …

Homelessness And Hospitality On The Ground, A Methodological Proposal For Catholic Social Teaching, Daniel Pilario May 2019

Homelessness And Hospitality On The Ground, A Methodological Proposal For Catholic Social Teaching, Daniel Pilario

Journal of Vincentian Social Action

What resources, perspectives and experiences can we draw from formal Catholic Social Teaching and broader Catholic social thought to help us understand and interpret street homelessness in a global context? This article is intended to be an invitation to share narratives of hospitality on the ground vis-à-vis the problem of homelessness in the global world. Unlike top-down approaches, there are no clear principles to be applied; only concrete stories with all their frictions, ambiguities and difficulties hoping that God’s inspiration can reveal itself on the rough grounds where people walk in fidelity to the Gospel.

What The People We Call "Homeless" Have Taught Me, Bruno M. Duffé May 2019

What The People We Call "Homeless" Have Taught Me, Bruno M. Duffé

Journal of Vincentian Social Action

I think I can say, as far as I can go back to my living memory and as a pastor, that the first thing I learned from “homeless” people we meet in our streets - and that we can sometimes find at the door of our institutions - is the determining importance of the gaze. And I would like to suggest, as a first contribution to our reflection, this intuition that has become for me a conviction and a major theological and ethical assertion: all human encounter begins with a look. Every truly human story finds its origin in the …

“Equal Dignity”: Comparing The Campaigns To Legalize Same-Sex Marriage And Their Outcomes In Italy And The United States, Kyle James Kilkenny May 2019

“Equal Dignity”: Comparing The Campaigns To Legalize Same-Sex Marriage And Their Outcomes In Italy And The United States, Kyle James Kilkenny

Senior Theses

The issue of marriage equality has encouraged many queer groups to mobilize over the past half-century. Two states where this trend has clearly been illustrated are Italy and the United States of America. While the United States has a widely studied history of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ) rights movements, the presence of such political activity in Italy has been less known on the world stage. With this in mind, this thesis studies how similar efforts to pass same-sex marriage legislation resulted in different outcomes, which are measured by whether same-sex marriage has been codified on the national …
