Applications Of Centered Kernel Target Alignment In Inductive Logic Programming, Benjamin H. Ott Jan 2019

Applications Of Centered Kernel Target Alignment In Inductive Logic Programming, Benjamin H. Ott

Open Access Dissertations

This study aimed both to apply centered kernel target alignment (CKTA) to inductive logic programming (ILP) in several different ways and to apply a complete refinement operator in a practical setting. A new genetic algorithm (GA) results from the research, utilizing a complete, locally finite refinement operator and also incorporating CKTA both as a fitness score and as a means for the promotion of diversity. As a fitness score, CKTA can either be used standalone or as a contributor to a hybrid score which utilizes the accuracy (weighted or normal) of the learned logic hypothesis as well. In terms of …

Geoinformatics And Predictive Model For Malaria Risk In Thailand, Patcharaporn Krainara Jan 2019

Geoinformatics And Predictive Model For Malaria Risk In Thailand, Patcharaporn Krainara

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

Malaria is an infectious disease caused by the parasite Plasmodium spp., and transmitted by an anopheles mosquito as a vector. After an infected female Anopheles mosquito bites a person, a parasite from salivary glands is delivered into the human’s blood flow. The incubation period of the disease is between 10-14 days and in the severe cases, it can cause jaundice, seizures, coma, or death. Many researches indicated that the occurrence of malaria requires many factors, including environmental factors, landscape and climate. Therefore, every healthcare organization delivered policies to control these typical factors towards human’s living styles. Though malaria has been …

Purchasing Behavior Of Led Lightbulbs Of Thai Consumers, Nuttakrij Apipuchayakul Jan 2019

Purchasing Behavior Of Led Lightbulbs Of Thai Consumers, Nuttakrij Apipuchayakul

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

Electricity use in residential sectors has become one of major demands for global energy production and consumption. One of today’s most energy-efficient lighting products is a Light-Emitting Diode (LED) lighting technology. The efficiency of LED lighting technology has already surpassed all other forms of lighting products such as traditional incandescent and Compact Fluorescent Lamp (CFL). Replacement with highly efficient lighting appliances like LED products could generate more than 10-15 billion USD of national energy-savings a year, or save up to 801 Mt of CO2 emissions annually. Even though LED technology have been introduced in the lighting market since 2014 coupled with …

Geomechanical Modeling Of Salt Cavern Stability For Carbon Dioxide Storage In The Maha Arakham Formation, Northeastern Thailand, Narumas Pajonpai

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

In Thailand, CO2 emissions quadrupled over the past three decades since 1989, with the power generation sector as the main contributor by burning fossil fuels to produce electricity. Therefore, the power generating industry has come under scrutiny and been pressed by society to take responsibility. Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) is one of the many methods to deal with CO2 emissions. Generally, CO2 is captured and stored in geological formations, e.g. rock salt deposits. Salt caverns have been intensively studied regarding their usage for CO2 storage because of their favourable characteristics. In this research, the Finite Element Method (FEM, ANSYS …

Music As Evidence For A Creator, Andrew Foster Jan 2019

Music As Evidence For A Creator, Andrew Foster

Senior Honors Theses

Throughout history, mankind has made music. While music is artistic, it is also scientific and informed by natural occurrences within the physical world. Mathematical relationships between frequencies, the harmonic series, the materials necessary to build musical instruments, and naturally measured time provide bases for the musical elements of pitch, timbre, and rhythm. Though scientific discovery can inform the practice of music, the origin of music cannot be explained through scientific or evolutionary means because music is not a necessity for survival. The fact that music does exist and has natural bases suggests that music is designed, and its elements were …

Predicting Adhd Using Eye Gaze Metrics Indexing Working Memory Capacity, Anne M.P. Michalek, Gavindya Jayawardena, Sampath Jayarathna Jan 2019

Predicting Adhd Using Eye Gaze Metrics Indexing Working Memory Capacity, Anne M.P. Michalek, Gavindya Jayawardena, Sampath Jayarathna

Communication Disorders & Special Education Faculty Publications

ADHD is being recognized as a diagnosis that persists into adulthood impacting educational and economic outcomes. There is an increased need to accurately diagnose this population through the development of reliable and valid outcome measures reflecting core diagnostic criteria. For example, adults with ADHD have reduced working memory capacity (WMC) when compared to their peers. A reduction in WMC indicates attention control deficits which align with many symptoms outlined on behavioral checklists used to diagnose ADHD. Using computational methods, such as machine learning, to generate a relationship between ADHD and measures of WMC would be useful to advancing our understanding …

Books And Olive Oil: Why Antitrust Must Deal With Consolidated Corporate Power, Carl T. Bogus Jan 2019

Books And Olive Oil: Why Antitrust Must Deal With Consolidated Corporate Power, Carl T. Bogus

University of Michigan Journal of Law Reform

Following an epic battle in the marketplace between Apple and major book publishers, on one side, and Amazon, on the other side, the United States Department of Justice and thirty-three states filed an antitrust lawsuit against Apple and the publishers, alleging that they had conspired to fix the prices of ebooks. Both the district court and a divided panel of the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit decided the case in the government’s favor. This Article argues that government regulators and the courts took the wrong side in the dispute and did so because of fundamental flaws …
