Student motivation in mathematics education can be affected by many variables, especially for at-risk students. Existing information is limited regarding teacher perceptions of their own pedagogy, instructional strategies, and at-risk student motivation in the area of mathematics for middle school and high school students. The purpose of this study was to analyze middle school and high school mathematics teachers’ perceptions of their own pedagogy, instructional strategies, and at-risk students’ motivation in mathematics. Objectives: Electronic health record (EHR) data aggregated from multiple, non-affiliated, sources provide an important resource for biomedical research, including digital phenotyping. Unlike work with EHR data from a single organization, aggregate EHR data introduces a number of analysis challenges.

Materials and Methods: We used the Cerner Health Facts data, a de-identified aggregate EHR data resource populated by data from 100 independent health systems, to investigate the impact of EHR implementation factors on the aggregate data. These included use of ancillary modules, data continuity, International Classification of Disease (ICD) version and prompts for clinical documentation.

In 2006, the State of California passed AB 32, the Global Warming Solutions Act. Through this legislation, the state sought to reduce its carbon emissions to 1990 levels by 2020. The California Air Resources Board (CARB) was tasked with doing so and thus instituted the Cap-and-Trade program, a market-based mechanism to reduce emissions. Additionally, legislation has further directed funding on an annual basis for various continuously appropriated programs. This paper will examine the efficacy of those continuously appropriated programs and their legislative intent.

The Monterey County Tobacco Control Program is working to pass smoke-free multi-unit housing (MUH) ordinances in the cities of Monterey, Salinas, and Seaside, to prevent exposure to secondhand and thirdhand smoke. Exposure to the toxins in smoke, including cannabis and electronic cigarettes, causes health risks to non-smoking residents. A sustainable program was developed to educate and increase tenant awareness of health risks associated with second and thirdhand smoke exposure and ways to create healthy home environments. The capstone project focused on addressing systemic challenges for out-of-county foster children/youth cases and by providing recommendations to CASA of Monterey County leadership for incentives for the Court Appointed Supervisor Advocates (CASAs) that agree to advocate for out of county foster child/youth. CASA of Monterey County currently has about 30 children/youth (24%) on their waitlist who are placed out-of-county. These youth historically do not receive a CASA volunteer due to being out-of-county.
