Rain Gardens: The Return Of Ecosystem Services, Katie Dehaan
Rain Gardens: The Return Of Ecosystem Services, Katie Dehaan
Honors Theses
In the modern world impervious surfaces, especially in urban areas, abound. These include roads, highways, sidewalks, parking lots, and roofs that have replaced permeable surfaces, mainly open land, forests, and wetlands. Rainwater runs off of these surfaces collecting pollutants on its way to permeable areas. Rain gardens collect and process rainwater. Native plants with deep root systems process large volumes of rainwater and the microorganisms living in the soils and roots can process pollutants. The purpose of my research was to find out what variables affect species presence or absence in rain gardens. Species presence or absence at the time …

Knowledge Level And Attitudes Of University Faculty Regarding Assistance Animals Compared To The General Population, Anna R. Ledonne
Honors College Theses
Assistance animals are becoming a greater presence on college campuses. The purpose of the following study was to explore university faculty’s confidence in defining different types of assistance animals, their knowledge of legal mandates, and their attitudes regarding assistance animals. A survey was issued to university faculty utilizing an online program and included measures from a previous study done by Schoenfeld-Tacher, Hellyer, Cheung, and Kogan (2017), as well as added questions to more specifically address the research questions and sample. This study was used to compare faculty knowledge and the knowledge of the general population. 91 participant responses were analyzed. …
Origins, Zoey M. Perse
Origins, Zoey M. Perse
Theses
Origins are beginnings. Everyone has an origin, a point from which their path brought them to the person that they are today. Some origins are from birth and lead in winding lines to a person’s present. Some origins come after birth and may take the form of an event, person or place that touched a life and drastically affected their path, pushing or pulling them to become an entirely different person than would have otherwise come about.
My own origin was the moment I was given into the arms of my adoptive parents. I was wrapped in layers of clothes, …

Ekolohikong Imahinasyong Filipino: Bagyong Yolanda, Pagbabago Sa Klima, At Imperyalismo Sa Tula At Tuluyang Filipino, Jeffrey Santa Ana
Katipunan

Kartograpiya Ng Pagbabago Sa Arkipelago Ng Nobelang Ang Lihim Ng Isang Pulo Ni Faustino Aguilar: Isang Metakomentaryo, E San Juan Jr.
Katipunan

Kung Saan Nagtatapos O Humahantong Ang Ilog Boac: Isang Pag-Aaral Na Komparatibo Ng Postkolonyal Na Ekokritisismo At Eko-Kosmopolitanismo, Rina Garcia Chua
Katipunan

Increasing The Reinforcing Value Of Exercise In Overweight Adults, Kyle D. Flack, Kelsey Elise Ufholz, Luann Johnson, James N. Roemmich
Dietetics and Human Nutrition Faculty Publications
Objectives: This study determined whether a moderate- or high-dose exercise program increases exercise reinforcement. Increasing the relative reinforcing value of exercise (RRVexercise; i.e., incentive sensitization of exercise) may increase the usual physical activity (PA) participation. Preference and/or tolerance for the intensity of exercise was also assessed.
Design: Sedentary men and women (body mass index, BMI: 25–35 kg/m2) were randomized into parallel exercise training groups expending either 300 (n = 18) or 600 (n = 18) kcal/exercise session, five sessions/week, for 12 weeks.
Methods: The RRVexercise was determined by how much …

Theses
The stories in this collection occupy a range of genres: realist literary fiction, slice of life, horror, magical realism/fabulism. While most of the pieces are short fiction, there is one short short, and one flash piece. What unites these disparate styles and forms is a concern with the everyday, with family dramas. Flightless is interested in exploring the dynamics of different familial relationships, particularly that of mothers and their children. These relationships, even good ones, can be fraught with expectations, guilt, and feelings of obligation unique to the expected roles of mothers and children, and my stories seek to investigate …

In the last decade, the epidemiological characteristics of salmonellosis have changed, in particular, the incidence of human disease has increased, and salmonella infection of farm animals, birds and the environment has increased. The increasing epidemiological role of agricultural birds and industrial poultry products, the relationship between epizootic and epidemic processes require the restructuring of the existing system of epidemiological surveillance of salmonellosis under epizootic and epidemiological supervision. On the basis of the results of scientific research, epizoolic-epidemiological supervision of salmonellosis has been developed, in relation to the conditions of Uzbekistan.

Research objective. Under conditions of unilateral ureter occlusion, development of microhemodynamic disorders of cortical substance in kidneys was studied both on the damage side and on contralateral (opposite) side. Materials and methods. Under the conditions of the experiment, we studied the state of microhemodynamics of the cortical region of both kidneys during the development of unilateral hydronephrosis. The experiments were conducted on 90 (48 experimental, 36 false-operated, 6 intact) outbred adult males. Results. It has been established that disorders on the side of occlusion depend on duration of obstruction in lumen of ureter, which determines the development of tissue hypoxia …
