Strength Assessment Of Earth Structures, M. M. Mirsaidov, T. Z. Sultanov, Isaya Kisekka, Zh. A. Yarashov

Irrigation and Melioration

A review of theories and methods for assessing the strength of earth structures is given in the paper. A number of criteria is proposed that makes it possible to reliably assess the strength of earth structures. The strength of the Gissarak dam under the influence of mass forces is estimated taking into account inhomogeneous features of the structure, the strength of the Nurek dam near the resonance regimes is assessed considering for viscoelastic properties of soil and inhomogeneous structural features under various dynamic impacts.

With the help of Landsat MSS and OLI was created land use and classification maps for 1972 and 2014 for the Syrdarya Province. Classification analysis was done by using eCognition Developer 9 program and by using Geographical object based image analysis (GEOBIA). The accuracy of results has been verified with visual comparing field and adminstrative data, accuracy are 95%. According to results, natural and desert are in Syrdarya was decreased to 1 …

Effect Of Bedload Sediment Natural Composition On Geometric And Dinamic Characteristics Of Channel Forms, N. M. Ikramov, T. Sh Majidov, A. G. Khodzinskaya Dec 2018

Effect Of Bedload Sediment Natural Composition On Geometric And Dinamic Characteristics Of Channel Forms, N. M. Ikramov, T. Sh Majidov, A. G. Khodzinskaya

Irrigation and Melioration

The article brings up data on sediment diversity at watercourse bed and on their movement in the form of ridges. The ridge form movement of sediment leads to the reduction of reservoir volume and canal cross section area, which has an effect on their carrying capacity, filling of pump station forechambers and hydroelectric station pressure basins with sediment. The presence of sediment in flow leads to abrasive deterioration of pumps, water motors and pressure pipes and to other negative consequences. Research work tasks on the study of these effects have been examined with the purpose of preventing such negative consequences. …

Land Use System Modernization: Environmental Aspect Of Management, A. S. Chertovitsky, Sh. K. Narbaev, M. M. Demidova

Irrigation and Melioration

The main causes of degradation of irrigated and dry lands, pasture lands are considered in the paper. Significant economic damage to agricultural production due to degraded land use is stated. The transition to a new environmental policy in land use in conditions of innovative economy requires the modernization of structural and functional relations in the land use system on the basis of scientific, technological and technical innovations. In this regard, it is necessary to modernize the land use management system, that is, to modernize the whole complex of management aspects. Among them, an important place in the modernization of land …

“You Believe Your Thing, I’Ll Believe My Thing”: How Christian College Students Communicate With Peers About Religion, Samantha Phelan Dec 2018

“You Believe Your Thing, I’Ll Believe My Thing”: How Christian College Students Communicate With Peers About Religion, Samantha Phelan

Communication Studies

This phenomenological study examines how Christian college students communicate with their peers about religion. Six undergraduate college students at a private university in San Francisco were individually interviewed about their experiences at the university and how they feel about discussing their religion among friends. Of the participants, three were male, and three were female. All participants self-identified as Christian. Interviews lasted approximately 30 minutes. They were audio recorded, transcribed, and analyzed using thematic analysis. Results showed that students tended to avoid religious conversations, but bonded with other Christian students over the shared experiences of growing up in their faith. In …

Christian Guana-Jarrin, Christian Guana-Jarrin

Fall 2018

Outside the weather is gloomy. Summer has given way to a cold and cloudy fall day, yet my office is filled with exuberance and joy. Christian Guana-Jarrin, an MDiv student here at Andrews, was one of the first two missionaries to serve Cuba after 55 years of doors being shut to long-term Christian missionaries. He has been sitting across from me for the last 30 minutes testifying to what God has accomplished in his life and in Cuba over that past year. Christian’s face is beaming as he explains the acronym CDAR to me. “C” stands for committed, and “dar” …

**TW: Sexual Assault

Earlier in the semester, many students and professors gathered in the Junction from 10 am until well into the evening to watch as Christine Blasey Ford and now Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh were each questioned at length. In all that has happened in the past two years, the looming feeling that spread through campus on this day was the closest rival to that which invaded campus on the morning of November 9th, 2016. Prosecutorial Misconduct: Typologies And Need For Policy Reform, Rylee Broyles, Tamara J. Lynn Dec 2018

Prosecutorial Misconduct: Typologies And Need For Policy Reform, Rylee Broyles, Tamara J. Lynn

Academic Leadership Journal in Student Research

A gross manifestation of injustice within the criminal justice system, warranting policy development to correct, is the issue of prosecutorial misconduct. There are numerous reasons why misconduct occurs and oftentimes overlooked within the courts. Action must be taken to both prevent and rectify such wrongdoings committed by those whom are presumed to be the most virtuous of our justice system. Future policy action is paramount to the constitutionality of criminal proceedings and the abatement of prosecutorial misconduct in every capacity. The implementation of austere policies would positively impact all criminal defendants whom cross the threshold of a courthouse.

Mean-Variance Qtl Mapping Identifies Novel Qtl For Circadian Activity And Exploratory Behavior In Mice., Robert W Corty, Vivek Kumar, Lisa M Tarantino, Joseph S Takahashi, William Valdar

Faculty Research 2018

We illustrate, through two case studies, that "mean-variance QTL mapping"-QTL mapping that models effects on the mean and the variance simultaneously-can discover QTL that traditional interval mapping cannot. Mean-variance QTL mapping is based on the double generalized linear model, which extends the standard linear model used in interval mapping by incorporating not only a set of genetic and covariate effects for mean but also set of such effects for the residual variance. Its potential for use in QTL mapping has been described previously, but it remains underutilized, with certain key advantages undemonstrated until now. In the first case study, a …

The Effects Of Sample Storage Conditions On The Microbial Community Composition In Hydraulic Fracturing Produced Water, Daniel Lipus, Amit Vikram, Richard Hammack, Kyle Bibby, Djuna Gulliver Dec 2018

The Effects Of Sample Storage Conditions On The Microbial Community Composition In Hydraulic Fracturing Produced Water, Daniel Lipus, Amit Vikram, Richard Hammack, Kyle Bibby, Djuna Gulliver

Roman L. Hruska U.S. Meat Animal Research Center: Reports

The petroleum industry has an increasing interest in understanding the microbial communities driving biofouling and biocorrosion in reservoirs, wells, and infrastructure. However, sampling of the relevant produced fluids from subsurface environments for microbiological analyses is often challenged by high liquid pressures, workplace regulations, operator liability concerns, and remote sampling locations. These challenges result in infrequent sampling opportunities and the need to store and preserve the collected samples for several days or weeks. Maintaining a representative microbial community structure from produced fluid samples throughout storage and handling is essential for accurate results of downstream microbial analyses. Currently, no sample handling or …

Counseling Sexual Assaulted Adolescents And Young Adults, Luann Gregorich

Counselor Education Capstones

Sexual assault affects men, women and children in the United States. Defining sexual assault and various forms of rape can help to formulate knowledge of the context of assaults that victims experience. There are certain populations that are at risk for sexual victimization. College aged individuals are at a higher risk for sexual assault than any other age group. There are four main risk factors for this age group that contribute to the vulnerability of assault. The impact of assault and rape on survivors can include emotional, physical and psychological issues. For clinicians, evidence -based treatments, understanding risk factors, and …
