The prevalence of e-cigarette use in young adults rose dramatically in the United States over the past decade. Nonetheless, our understanding of the motives that make young adults more susceptible to e-cigarette use remains limited. Risk factors associated with susceptibility to combustible cigarettes suggest that negative affect reduction outcome expectancies are positively associated with cigarette susceptibility in this age group. Further, emotion competencies, such as emotion regulation difficulties, distress tolerance, and positive and negative urgency have been positively associated with both susceptibility and negative affect reduction expectancies. This critical interpretive study explores the relationship between public policy and visual culture. Drawing from five areas of research literature on (1) policy feedback theory, (2) the spectacle, (3) art and visual culture, (4) Black feminist theory, (5) and critical philosophies of resistance, images of contemporary antiracist activism are conceptualized as a form of policy feedback. Atmospheric deposition provides a significant source of nutrients and bioactive trace metals to the surface ocean, including the seasonally oligotrophic waters of the Mid-Atlantic Bight. These atmospherically derived nutrients and trace metals enter the surface ocean via dry deposition of aerosols and wet deposition in rain. To estimate the aeolian input of nutrients and trace metals to coastal waters east of the Delmarva Peninsula, wet and dry atmospheric deposition samples were collected over a one-year time series at the Anheuser-Busch Coastal Research Center, Oyster, Virginia. This paper proposes an alternative approach to internal strain-gage balance design driven by Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles. The objective of this research was a reduction in fabrication time and, subsequently, cost of a balance by simplifying its design while maintaining basic stiffness and sensitivity. Traditionally, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Langley Research Center (LaRC) balance designs have relied on Electro-Discharge Machining (EDM), which is a precise but slow and, therefore, expensive process. In a 2001 essay, Professor Abbe Smith asked the question whether a good person—i.e., a person who is committed to social justice—can be a good prosecutor. Although she acknowledged some hope that the answer to her question could be “yes,” Professor Smith concluded that the answer then was “no”—in part because she saw individual prosecutors generally as having very little discretion to “temper the harsh reality of the criminal justice system.” In this Online Symposium revisiting Professor Smith’s question seventeen years later, my answer to her question is “yes”—a good person can be a good prosecutor.

Goodwill reflects the positive consumer association with a business. Goodwill thus overlaps with trademarks and other related assets. This close association impedes the separation of goodwill value from such related assets. Difficulties thus arise when the tax law treats goodwill more (or less) favorably than related intangible assets.For instance, the tax law previously denied any depreciation deductions for goodwill. Business buyers thus often allocated their costs away from goodwill and towards related assets like depreciable customer lists. Mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA), transmitted from mother to child, have their own genetic code that may cause debilitating genetic diseases. To prevent such unfortunate occurrences, researchers have developed a process enabling them to completely replace an ovum’s mitochondria with mitochondria contributed by a donor. Children born by use of this method have genetic material from both the mitochondrial donor and the birth mother; they are “three-parent babies.” Resultant medical, ethical, legal and theological problems are obvious.

Initial treatment of viral flu is based on presumptive diagnosis. Interconnectivity among networks is essential for enhancing communication capabilities of networks such as the expansion of geographical range, higher data rate, etc. However, interconnections may initiate vulnerability (e.g., cyber attacks) to a secure network due to introducing gateways and opportunities for security attacks such as malware, which may propagate from the less secure network. Objectives: To describe the spectrum of complications of Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA) observed in children admitted with severe DKA.
Methods: Retrospective review of the medical records of all children admitted with the diagnosis of severe DKA in Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) of the Aga Khan University Hospital, from January 2010 to December 2015 was done. Data was collected on a structured proforma and descriptive statistics were applied.

Fault-tolerant power converters play a critical role in the transportation electrification. However, fault-tolerant operation, high efficiency, and low cost usually result in design criteria that have conflicting constraints and goals. The majority of the fault-tolerant power converter topologies presented in the literature confirm these conflicts. In this paper, three types of fault-tolerant neutral-point clamped (NPC) converters are investigated. Various modulation strategies are explored to reduce the losses of the redundant phase leg. Solitary confinement is one of the most severe forms of punishment that can be inflicted on human beings. In recent years, the use of extreme isolation in our prisons and jails has been questioned by correctional officials, medical experts, and reform advocates alike. Yet for nearly the entirety of American history, judicial regulation of the practice has been extremely limited. This Article explains why judges hesitate to question the use of solitary confinement, while also providing a path forward for greater scrutiny of the practice.

The non-enforcement of existing property laws is not logically separable from the issue of unfair and unjust state deprivations of property rights at which the Constitution's Takings Clause takes aim. This Article suggests, therefore, that takings law should police allocations resulting from non-enforcement decisions on the same "fairness and justice" grounds that it polices allocations resulting from decisions to enact and enforce new regulations. Ordinary corporate law invests enormous authority in corporate leaders, largely without accountability either to those they govern or to the judiciary, in defiance of much of what we know about effective governance procedure. Instead, we rely on the markets in which the corporation participates as the primary check on incumbent officials. Regardless of whether relying on markets is sufficient in the ordinary course, corporate insolvency is the markets' verdict that incumbent management has failed. การวิจัยในครั้งนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อ 1) สร้างรูปแบบการเรียนแบบผสมผสาน และ 2) ศึกษาผลการใช้งานรูปแบบการเรียนแบบผสมผสาน กลุ่มตัวอย่างที่ใช้ในการทดลองรูปแบบ คือ นักศึกษาสาขาวิชานิเทศศาสตร์เกษตร สถาบันเทคโนโลยีพระจอมเกล้าเจ้าคุณทหารลาดกระบัง ที่ลงทะเบียนเรียนในรายวิชา 04116030 สื่อสิ่งพิมพ์อิเลคทรอนิกส์ ประจำภาคเรียนที่ 2 ปีการศึกษา 2558 จำนวน 28 คน เครื่องมือที่ใช้ในการเก็บรวบรวมข้อมูลได้แก่ 1) เกณฑ์การประเมินแบบรูบริค และ 2) แบบสอบถาม วิเคราะห์ข้อมูลด้วย ค่าเฉลี่ย ร้อยละ ส่วนเบี่ยงเบนมาตรฐาน และการทดสอบค่าที ผลการวิจัยพบว่า รูปแบบการเรียนมีองค์ประกอบทั้งสิ้น 4 องค์ประกอบ ได้แก่ 1) เครื่องมือบนสื่อสังคมออนไลน์ 2) การวัดและประเมินผล 3) เนื้อหาการเรียน และ 4) บทบาทของผู้สอน รูปแบบการเรียนประกอบด้วยขั้นตอนทั้งหมด 5 ขั้นตอน ได้แก่ 1) กำหนดจุดมุ่งหมาย 2) ค้นหาแรงบันดาลใจ 3) สร้างตัวแบบจำลอง 4) นำเสนอตัวแบบ และ 5) พัฒนาผลงาน จากผลการทดลองผู้เรียนมีคะแนนความสามารถการออกแบบทางทัศนะหลังเรียนสูงกว่าก่อนเรียนอย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติที่ระดับ .05 และมีความคิดเห็นต่อรูปแบบการเรียนอยู่ที่ระดับเหมาะสมมาก
