System Level Power Integrity Transient Analysis Using A Physics-Based Approach, Jun Xu Jan 2018

System Level Power Integrity Transient Analysis Using A Physics-Based Approach, Jun Xu

Masters Theses

"With decreasing supply voltage level and massive demanding current on system chipset, power integrity design becomes more and more critical for system stability. The ultimate goal of well-designed power delivery network (PDN) is to deliver desired voltage level from the source to destination, in other words, to minimize voltage noise delivered to digital devices. The thesis is composed of three parts. The first part focuses on-die level power models including simplified chip power model (CPM) for system level analysis and the worst scenario current profile. The second part of this work introduces the physics-based equivalent circuit model to simplify the …

Comparative Toxicology Of Nio And Ni(Oh)₂ Nanoparticles, Melissa Hope Cambre

Masters Theses

“Understanding the potential toxicity of nanoparticles (NPs) is important to ensure that these new products do not impose harmful effects to human and environmental health. Paper I is a literature review in which we discuss characteristics of nanomaterials, with an emphasis on transition metal oxide nanoparticles that influence cytotoxicity. Identification of those properties may lead to the design of more efficient and safer nanosized products for various industrial purposes and provide guidance for assessment of human and environmental health risk. We then investigate biochemical and molecular mechanisms of cytotoxicity that include oxidative stress-induced cellular events and alteration of the pathways …

Coaxial Cable Ring Resonator Based On Pair Sided Coaxial Cable Bragg Grating Coupler For Sensing Appllication, Xiaotong Tang

Masters Theses

“Coaxial cable based devices, such as coaxial cable Bragg grating (CCBG), coiled coaxial cable resonator have been demonstrated for sensing applications to address the challenges faced by fiber optic sensors (e.g., large strain survivability, installation). Inspired by the fiber ring resonator (FRR), coaxial cable based ring resonator (CCRR) is reported in this thesis. The device mainly formed by a homemade coaxial cable Bragg grating (CCBG) pair based side coupler. Comparing to the commercial coupler, CCBG-SC improves the flexibility of the device for sensing applications. The coupling frequency of the CCBG-based coupler can be modified by changing the grating length and …

Carbon Black Production, Analyzing And Characterization, Shadha Khalid Jebur Jan 2018

Carbon Black Production, Analyzing And Characterization, Shadha Khalid Jebur

Masters Theses

"Carbon black (CB) plays a significant function in the development of the electrical and mechanical properties of high performance for a tough elastic polymeric substance such as rubber materials. Thus, CB is widely used to manufacture a massive number of products such as reinforcing and pigment phase in automobile tires due to its high ability to increase tire life by reducing the thermal damage. This material is also used in belts, hoses, and other non-tire rubber goods. Before use in valuable materials. CB should first be analyzed and characterized by different instruments to obtain its mechanical properties. A new thermal …

Development Of Hollow Coaxial Cable Fabry Perot Resonator For High Temperature Sensing Applications, Mohammed Farhan Ahmed

Masters Theses

"The thesis is comprised of two papers, the first paper presents the novel High-Quality Factor Coaxial Cable Fabry-Perot Resonator for sensing applications. The sensor is fabricated by creating two highly reflective mirrors in a coaxial cable. The temperature response of the sensor was tested, by monitoring the frequency shift of the reflection spectra as the temperature increased linearly from 35 °C to 80 °C in steps of 5 °C. The sensor exhibited high temperature sensitivity and good measurement resolution.

A high Q factor of 133 was recorded. The second paper in the thesis presents a low cost, robust, homemade hollow …

Ceria Nanostructured Catalysts For Conversion Of Methanol And Carbon Dioxide To Dimethyl Carbonate, Jawad Hassan A Al Drwish

Masters Theses

"In this study, three different shapes of ceria (CeO2) nanostructures (e.g., nanooctahedra, nanocubes and nanorods) were synthesized via the hydrothermal method and screened for carbonylation reaction. Of these three shapes of nanostructures, the nanorod was doped with metals such as Ca, Ni, Cu, and Co by wet impregnation method. All materials were characterized by XRD, NH3/CO2-TPD, XRF, FTIR and N2 physorption to determine the crystal size and phases, acid-base properties, metal loading, and surface properties. The obtained materials were employed as catalysts for the activation of Carbon Dioxide (CO2) and methanol …

Cyclic Axial Compression Behavior Of Concrete-Filled Hybrid Large Rupture Strain Frp Tubes, Monika Nain Jan 2018

Cyclic Axial Compression Behavior Of Concrete-Filled Hybrid Large Rupture Strain Frp Tubes, Monika Nain

Masters Theses

"This study introduces an experimental investigation of the behavior of concrete filled fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) tubes (CFFTs) under cyclic axial compression. The FRP used in this study were either small rupture strain FRP (SRS-FRP) or large rupture strain FRP (LRS-FRP). This paper also presents the first-ever experimental study on the behavior of concrete confined using hybrid LRS-FRP and SRS-FRP. LRS-FRP included PEN (polyethylene napthalate) and PET (polyethylene terephthalate) where both of them having ultimate axial strain larger than 5%, and low stiffness. SRP-FRP included carbon and glass FRP having small rupture strains, smaller than 2%, and high stiffness. The …

An Investigation Of The Economic Order Quantity Model With Quantity Discounts Under An Environmental Objective, Tiffanie Marie Toles Jan 2018

An Investigation Of The Economic Order Quantity Model With Quantity Discounts Under An Environmental Objective, Tiffanie Marie Toles

Masters Theses

"In a sustainable supply chain, retailers are the direct link between customers and products. Retailers play an important role by relaying feedback such as customer satisfaction, inventory improvement, or product improvement to the other key players in a supply chain. Their overall goal is to reduce supply chain costs, such as the cost of ordering product, transporting product, or holding product in inventory. Other costs associated in a supply chain can include environmental and operations costs. It is important to consider these costs due to the impact environmental operations play in the role of how sustainable a supply chain can …

Enhancement Of Performance Of Micro Direct Ethanol Fuel Cells By Structural Modification, Sindhuja Valluri Jan 2018

Enhancement Of Performance Of Micro Direct Ethanol Fuel Cells By Structural Modification, Sindhuja Valluri

Masters Theses

“Direct Ethanol Fuel Cells (DEFC’s) are becoming more important in current energy conversion devices because of their higher efficiency compared to other fuel cells. However, the performance of current DEFC’s is not efficient in providing energy to meet increasing energy demand. The objective of this work is to make the cell compact and at the same time improve performance. For this purpose, we have removed gasket and endplates to make structure compact and increased surface area by developing a new corrugated structure. This work also uses 3D printing technology Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) to make pocket backing case to improve …

Laser-Aided Additive Manufacturing Of Glass, John Michael Hostetler Jan 2018

Laser-Aided Additive Manufacturing Of Glass, John Michael Hostetler

Masters Theses

“This thesis presents various approaches for the laser-aided additive manufacturing of glass. First, a technique is investigated to create free-form, low to zero coefficient of thermal expansion structures out of silica-gel. A CO2 laser was coupled through a gantry system and focused onto a binder-free silica-gel powder bed (15-40 μm particles). Prior to writing each layer, powder is dispensed by sifting it onto the build platform as opposed to a conventional wiper system, avoiding contacting and potentially damaging sensitive parts. After deposition, the parts are annealed in a furnace to increase their strength. The influence of various process parameters …

Solidification Rate Detection Through Solid-Liquid Interface Tracking, Wei Luo Jan 2018

Solidification Rate Detection Through Solid-Liquid Interface Tracking, Wei Luo

Masters Theses

”Studying the melt pool dynamics in laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) additive manufacturing is vital to predict the microstructure of the built part. High-speed synchrotron hard X-ray imaging is an advanced technique to monitor the LPBF process in situ and in real time. However, it is very challenging to track the solid-liquid interface due to the low image contrast, high image noise and unstable intensity of the image sequences.

In this paper, we propose an solid-liquid interface detector with human interaction to track the interface to compute the solidification rate of the melt pool. The proposed method includes six independent …
