Forensic Analysis Of A Crash-Damaged Cheerson Cx-20 Auto Pathfinder Drone, Ian N. Mcateer, Peter Hannay, Muhammad I. Malik, Zubair Baig
Journal of Digital Forensics, Security and Law
Long gone are the days when Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and drones (multirotor UAVs) were the exclusive domain of the military for surveillance or tactical strike purposes. For relatively little money mainly due to high-tech progression in microprocessor design, anyone can now purchase a drone with GNSS-tracking capabilities and can support a live high-resolution video feed to its flight controller. The global population of drones has sky- rocketed in recent years as this new technology has been embraced for both its recreational and commercial applications. However, the more nefarious members of society have also recognized the potential for using drones …

This article describes the analytical support a Saint Joseph’s University (SJU) data mining class provided over the past three academic years to Fe y Alegría in Bolivia (FyAB), a Jesuit-sponsored institution dedicated to the education of the poor and looking for a feasible model that could help them identify which students and schools have the most need. SJU undergraduates, working without viable socio-economic household income information for each student in the database, had to be creative in assisting FyAB using only survey data provided by Bolivian school-age pupils. Working in consultation with FyAB school representatives, their goal for each iteration …
Mathematical Model For Designing A Light Prismatic Panel, Islam A. Mashaly, Khaled Nassar, Salah M. El Haggar
Mathematical Model For Designing A Light Prismatic Panel, Islam A. Mashaly, Khaled Nassar, Salah M. El Haggar
Faculty Journal Articles
Adequate daylighting inside built spaces helps reaching satisfactory levels of energy consumption by reducing the usage of artificial lighting. Moreover, it is a major source in adjusting the occupants’ visual comfort which boosts productivity and concentration. Nevertheless, inefficient design would result in increasing the solar hear gain and increasing the indoor temperatures, as well as uneven light distribution would result in the “cave effect” phenomena. A Sustainable complex fenestration system is proposed in this paper that diffuses and redirects daylight through a prismatic panel. The panel will redirect the excessive direct light upwards and reduce the light from going downwards …

Efficient Uptake Of Cd(Ii) And Pb(Ii) Ions By Aromatic Polyamidoximes, Sonia Zulfiqar
Faculty Journal Articles
Polyamidoximes were synthesized by condensing presynthesized monomers, 2,6-bis(4-chloroformylphenoxy) benzonitrile or 2,6-bis(4-aminophenoxy) benzonitrile, with diamines and diacid chlorides at low temperature. These polyamidoximes were exploited as potential metal-chelating adsorbents owing to the presence of amidoxime as pendant groups on the polyamide backbone. The synthesis of monomers was verified by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and nuclear magnetic resonance analyses. The molar masses of the polymers were measured using gel permeation chromatography, and thermal decomposition temperatures were found to be in the range of 426-489 °C with high char yields. Metal-ion uptake was investigated through atomic absorption spectroscopy with more than 99% adsorption …

Innocent Victors: Atomic Identity At The American Museum Of Science And Energy In Oak Ridge, Tennessee, Kathryn Leann Harris
Graduate Masters Theses
In 2009, the American Museum of Science and Energy (AMSE) in Oak Ridge, Tennessee debuted an updated history exhibit about the town’s role as one of three secret cities in the Manhattan Project. The exhibit presented a celebratory tone in honor of the innocent people who unknowingly and victoriously participated in the construction of the atomic bomb that aided the Allies in their successful end of WWII. The exhibit omitted the larger national, political nuclear discussion that took place over the following sixty-five years, cementing a long-held victory culture identity. In a 2009 world, the AMSE exhibit seemed incomplete, if …

Accounting For The Environmental Impacts Associated With Residual Products In A Comparative Life Cycle Assessment Of Systems With Multiple Products, Yasuhiro Fukushima, Satoshi Ohara
Journal of Environmental Science and Sustainable Development
In many production systems, multiple products are interactively produced. Therefore, an innovative technology that leads to changes in parts of such systems may influence both the unit environmental impacts associated with the products, and the productivity of multiple products. To compare alternative technologies on a common basis, we often account for the avoided or supplemented emissions associated with the residual (i.e. surplus and supplemented) products produced from within the considered system boundary. In this study, using an example of an innovative technology envisioned for use in sugar mills, we first demonstrate how comparisons can be made when the systems vary …

The energy harvesting capability of resonant harvesting structures, such as piezoelectric cantilever beams, can be improved by utilizing coupled oscillations that generate favourable strain mode distributions. In this work, we present the first demonstration of the use of a laminated carbon fibre reinforced polymer to create cantilever beams that undergo coupled bending-twisting oscillations for energy harvesting applications. Piezoelectric layers that operate in bending and shear mode are attached to the bend-twist coupled beam surface at locations of maximum bending and torsional strains in the first mode of vibration to fully exploit the strain distribution along the beam. Modelling of this …

This paper presents a complete model for photovoltaic modules able to accurately predict the I–V characteristics at different levels of temperature and irradiance. The model greatly reduces the computational effort needed to extract the five parameters of the one-diode model by applying five boundary conditions based on data provided by the manufacturer only. The model equations are reduced to only two simultaneous equations of two unknowns (series resistance, R s , and shunt resistance, R sh ), which converge in five iterations on average. The model parameters are extrapolated to account for temperature and irradiance variations. The model is matched …

Hall Effect Parameters Of Aluminium And Tungsten Co-Doped Vo2 Thin Films, Mohamed Mussa, Nuru R Mlyuka, Margaret E Samiji
Tanzania Journal of Science
The Hall Effect parameters of Al and W co-doped VO2 thin films were studied in order to explain the effect of co-doping on the electrical properties of thermochromic VO2 films. The carrier concentrations and conductivity of the films were found to increase with increase in temperature while carrier mobility decreased reaching a minimum around the transition temperature then slightly rose and became stable at high temperatures. Tungsten doped films displayed higher carrier concentrations and conductivity on both sides of the metal insulator transition and lower mobility compared to undoped and Al and W co-doped VO2 thin films.
