Governance For A Changing Climate: Adapting Boston’S Built Environment For Increased Flooding, Stephanie Kruel, Rebecca Herst, David Cash

Sustainable Solutions Lab

As the impacts of climate change intensify, coastal cities like Boston face increasing threats from sea level rise, extreme precipitation, and storm surges. This report, produced by the Sustainable Solutions Lab at the University of Massachusetts Boston, examines the role of governance in preparing Boston’s built environment for these evolving risks. Building upon the foundational work of the Climate Ready Boston initiative, the report outlines critical governance functions necessary for climate adaptation, including institutional coordination, regulatory reform, community engagement, and data-driven decision-making. Emphasizing a multiscalar governance approach, it analyzes the tools available at local, regional, state, and federal levels and …

Research Resurgence: Supporting Our University Qep With Our Information Literacy Expertise, Amanda Hahn, Johannah Lowder

Faculty Publications and Presentations

Championing information literacy has long been the mission of university librarians. When our University chose “Cultivating a Community of Research and Scholarship” as the focus of our Quality Enhancement Plan the Library was invited to join two interdisciplinary course development teams. Librarians collaborated with faculty from various academic departments to design two introductory research courses. These sequential courses lay the foundation of information literacy that springboards students to higher level research.

Inquiry 101 centers on the themes of the value and relevance of research, introduction to the application of research, and an introduction to information literacy skills. As a major …

Serum Vitamin D3 Levels In Women With And Without Uterine Fibroids, Shahla Fekri Najeeb, Lilyan W. Sersam

Iraqi Postgraduate Medical Journal

ABSTRACT: BACKGROUND: Uterine leiomyomas are the most common benign tumours of the female genital tract. They are a major source of morbidity for women and a frequent indication of gynecological surgery. Understanding the etiology of uterine fibroids remains incomplete. Vitamin D may be an unrecognized risk factor for their development. OBJECTIVE: To assess serum vitamin D3 levels in women with and without uterine fibroids and to identify whether serum vitamin D3 levels correlate with the severity of uterine fibroids disease. METHODS: This prospective case- control study involved 150 women in their premenopausal state who presented at the outpatient gynecology clinic …
