Organisms are locked in an eternal struggle with parasitic DNA sequences that live inside their genomes and wreak havoc on their host’s chromosomes as they spread through populations. To combat these parasites, host species have evolved elaborate mechanisms of resistance that suppress their activity. A new study in Drosophila indicates that, prior to the acquisition of resistance, individuals can vary in their ability to tolerate the activity of these genomic parasites, ignoring or repairing the damage they induce. This tolerance results from variation at genes involved in germline development and DNA damage checkpoints and suggests that these highly conserved cellular …

This study aims to determine the process of implementing physical education learning at the high school level in Banyuwangi Regency by using descriptive analytical methods in the form of formulating objectives, collecting data, comparing data (research results) with standards, making decisions and providing recommendations that refer to countenance evaluation models. The results of the assessment indicate that there are considerations at each stage of physical education learning which are shown not to be in the "Very Good" category.

The chiropteran fauna of the island of Saint Vincent, represented by 12 species, is among the most complex in the Lesser Antilles, being represented by four families including Noctilionidae (1 species), Mormoopidae (1), Phyllostomidae (8), and Molossidae (2). This fauna includes four trophic guilds as represented by Noctilio leporinus (piscivore/insectivore); Glossophaga longirostris and Monophyllus plethodon (nectarivore/pollenivore); Artibeus lituratus, A. schwartzi, Brachyphylla cavernarum, Ardops nichollsi, and Sturnira paulsoni (frugivore); and Pteronotus fuscus, Micronycteris buriri, Molossus molossus, and Tadarida brasiliensis (insectivore). One species—Micronycteris buriri—and two subspecies—Sturnira paulsoni paulsoni and Ardops nichollsi vincentensis …

The marketing mix consists of product, price, place and promotion. Pricing in health services is an important mix that can be done through the top-down and bottom-up approach. The purpose of this paper is to review the differences between the top-down and bottom-up approaches to pricing health services. Method: This literature review is conducted in December 2018. Research related to the top-down and bottom-up approaches to pricing health services is sought by using valid keywords, including top down approaches, bottom-up approaches and costing through PubMed, Science Direct and EBSCO. Results & Discussion: A total of 10 papers were selected for …

Resurrecting The Regulatory Properties Of The Ostreococcus Tauri Adp-Glucose Pyrophosphorylase Large Subunit, Carlos M. Figueroa, Misty L. Kuhn, Benjamin L. Hill, Alberto A. Iglesias, Miguel A. Ballicora
Chemistry: Faculty Publications and Other Works
ADP-glucose pyrophosphorylase (ADP-Glc PPase) catalyzes the first committed step for the synthesis of glycogen in cyanobacteria and starch in green algae and plants. The enzyme from cyanobacteria is homotetrameric (α4), while that from green algae and plants is heterotetrameric (α2β2). These ADP-Glc PPases are allosterically regulated by 3-phosphoglycerate (3PGA, activator) and inorganic orthophosphate (Pi, inhibitor). Previous studies on the cyanobacterial and plant enzymes showed that 3PGA binds to two highly conserved Lys residues located in the C-terminal domain. We observed that both Lys residues are present in the small (α) subunit of the Ostreococcus tauri enzyme; however, one of these …
Eustress In Advanced Placement (Ap) And International Baccalaureate (Ib) Students, Amanda C. Moseley
Eustress In Advanced Placement (Ap) And International Baccalaureate (Ib) Students, Amanda C. Moseley
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Eustress, the positive response to stress, is a relatively understudied concept. Most of the research on eustress has been concentrated in the occupational and management setting. Empirical studies of eustress in adolescents are absent, even though youth experience unique sources and magnitudes of stress. Specifically, Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) students report more stress than their general education peers but excel in their rigorous academic program. Eustress is related to a variety of positive psychological and physiological outcomes among adult samples, which makes it an important concept to explore in adolescent samples. Many constructs such as self-efficacy, hope, …

Biochemical Study Of A Chymotrypsin-Like Serine Protease, Aachymo, From The Female Aedes Aegypti Mosquito, Olive Escalicas Burata
Master's Theses
The Aedes aegypti female mosquito is a dominant vector of four bloodborne viruses: dengue, chikungunya, yellow fever, and Zika. Defenses against viral infection are reliant on human competence to limit interactions with the vector or through abatement using
methods that are either too expensive or ecologically invasive upon other species. An alternative vector control approach focuses specifically on blood meal protein digestion, which is a required process to fuel the gonotrophic cycle. Reduction of eggs laid can be
observed by inhibiting midgut serine proteases that are afterward released in the midgut in the presence of a blood meal. Trypsin-like serine …
Diets And Stable Isotope Signatures Of Yellowtail Rockfish (Sebastes Flavidus) In Central California, Jennifer Chiu
Diets And Stable Isotope Signatures Of Yellowtail Rockfish (Sebastes Flavidus) In Central California, Jennifer Chiu
Master's Theses
Studies of fish diets can improve the understanding of trophic distributions and the predatory role of a species in an ecosystem. Identifying the spatial and temporal variability in the diets of fishes can provide useful information for stock assessments and management. Yellowtail Rockfish (Sebastes flavidus) are a commercially and recreationally important fishery species, and abundant along the central California coast, yet the most recent studies of diets occurred over 20 years ago in Oregon and Washington. To provide current information from California, I examined the food habits of Yellowtail Rockfish collected near Cordell Bank, the Farallon Islands, and Half Moon …
Acidity And Antioxidant Activity Of Cold Brew Coffee., Niny Z. Rao, Megan Fuller
Acidity And Antioxidant Activity Of Cold Brew Coffee., Niny Z. Rao, Megan Fuller
College of Life Sciences Faculty Papers
The acidity and antioxidant activity of cold brew coffee were investigated using light roast coffees from Brazil, two regions of Ethiopia, Columbia, Myanmar, and Mexico. The concentrations of three caffeoylquinic acid (CQA) isomers were also determined. Cold brew coffee chemistry was compared to that of hot brew coffee prepared with the same grind-to-coffee ratio. The pH values of the cold and hot brew samples were found to be comparable, ranging from 4.85 to 5.13. The hot brew coffees were found to have higher concentrations of total titratable acids, as well as higher antioxidant activity, than that of their cold brew …

Determining The Efficacy Of Fifa 11+ In Reducing Acl Injury In Female Soccer Players, John Hallmark
Determining The Efficacy Of Fifa 11+ In Reducing Acl Injury In Female Soccer Players, John Hallmark
Celebration of Learning
Objective-This study aims to identify the relationship between the Fifa 11+ program and the angle of valgus deformity at the knee. Background-200,000 ACL tears are reported each year. Previous studies have linked valgus motion of the knee to an increased rate of ACL injury and females exhibit a 4-6x increased risk for ACL injury. Fifa 11+ has shown promise in studies done on professional soccer teams yet remains untested in a younger population. Methods-This prospective cohort study of 300 consented female soccer players will use Noraxon as a tool for the measurement of valgus angle at the …
