Social Control Of The Family On Juvenile Post-Drug Rehabilitation Relapse Behavior, Diah Nur Eliza
Social Control Of The Family On Juvenile Post-Drug Rehabilitation Relapse Behavior, Diah Nur Eliza
Masyarakat: Jurnal Sosiologi
This article discusses social control of families to their children following drug rehabilitation. Juveniles who have completed rehabilitation programs will experience a resocialization process,i.e. socialization to a new environment or the old environment they once left. Previous studies have identified that the juvenile resocialization process after rehabilitation is influenced by the social environment and family factors. The resocialization process, alongside social control from the family, can prevent the behavior of re-using drugs or relapsing. This article is written based on a qualitative research. The primary data are obtained from juveniles aged 12-18 years, not married, and have experienced drug rehabilitation. …
“Have You Been To Walmart?” Gender And Perceptions Of Safety In North Dakota Boomtowns, Timothy D. Pippert, Rachel Zimmer Scheider
“Have You Been To Walmart?” Gender And Perceptions Of Safety In North Dakota Boomtowns, Timothy D. Pippert, Rachel Zimmer Scheider
Faculty Authored Articles
Between 2010 and 2015, North Dakota’s economy was out of sync with the rest of the U.S. As a result of the Bakken oil boom, unemployment registered approximately 1% in northwestern North Dakota while the rest of the country suffered the lingering effects of the Great Recession. As one of the only sharply growing economies during that time, job seekers descended from every state in search of high-paying oilfield jobs. The majority of those job seekers were men, and this study examines how the hypermasculinized environment altered perceptions of safety and security for men and women living in the Bakken.

Asexual People’S Experience With Microaggressions, Tamara Deutsch
Asexual People’S Experience With Microaggressions, Tamara Deutsch
Student Theses
Asexuality as a non-heterosexual identity is a target of microaggressions similar to those experienced by other non-heterosexual identities. In this study asexual participants reported experiencing invalidation, sexual normativity/romantic normativity, pathologization, ignorance, general LGBTQIAP+ prejudice, dehumanization, rejection, disappointment, infantilization, tokenization, sexual threats/pressure, and sexual assault/corrective rape. These microaggressions came from various sources; family, partners/potential partners, friends/acquaintances, medical professionals, media, school systems, other LGBTQIAP+ people, and religious institutions. These led to emotional, cognitive, and behavioral reactions. Participants also reported negative mental health outcomes they linked to these microaggressions.

Value Of Stolen Property Reported In Alaska, 1985–2016, Random Reamey
AJiC Fact Sheets
This fact sheet presents data on the value of stolen property reported in Alaska from 1985 to 2016 as reported in the Department of Public Safety publication Crime in Alaska. Overall, the 31-year trend reveals that the total value of stolen property in Alaska was relatively static with a trough beginning in 2008 and rising in 2014. The increase in stolen property value from 2014 to 2016 was mainly due to increases in the aggregate values of stolen motor vehicles and miscellaneous items. After adjusting for inflation, the highest total value of stolen property was recorded in 1990 at $61,651,724. …

2017 Legislative Recap: Important Bills From Nevada's 79th Legislative Session, Leonardo R. Benavides
2017 Legislative Recap: Important Bills From Nevada's 79th Legislative Session, Leonardo R. Benavides
Nevada Law Journal Forum
After the “red wave” of voters swept across the nation’s midterm elections in 2014, Nevada Republicans held a bicameral majority in the 78th (2015) Legislative Session. The subsequent 2016 presidential election tipped the balance of power as Nevada Democrats took back the majority in both houses for the 79th (2017) Legislative Session. The Senate went from an 11-10 Republican advantage to an 11-9-1 advantage for Democrats, and the Assembly flipped from a 25-17 Republican advantage to a 27-15 Democrat advantage. The issues that had previously dominated the 2015 Session, such as tort reform, collective bargaining overhauls, and funding for Education …

Advising Millennial Students At An Open Enrollment Institution, Charles Hinton
Advising Millennial Students At An Open Enrollment Institution, Charles Hinton
Title III Professional Development Reports
Many studies have identified variables that impact learning outcomes for students. Recently, researchers have begun to examine how generation can impact learning, especially for the most populous group in education, the Millennials. Millennials present differently than older generations and are often not well received by professors. It has been suggested that over indulgent parenting has predisposed these students to arrive in the classroom with a different set of expectations than older generations. Educating Millennials can turn into a war of wills between faculty wanting respect for tradition and Millennials demanding flexible and customized experiences. Although Millennials must adjust to the …

Improving The Indigent Defense Crisis Through Decriminalization, Bryan Altman
Improving The Indigent Defense Crisis Through Decriminalization, Bryan Altman
Arkansas Law Review
“The Sixth Amendment stands as a constant admonition that if the constitutional safeguards it provides be lost, justice will not still be done.” The constitutional right to the assistance of counsel in criminal prosecutions is one of the many safeguards contained within the Sixth Amendment designed to protect the fundamental human rights of life and liberty. Unfortunately, for indigent defendants that safeguard of life and liberty operates as a mere platitude today. Stephen Bright, founder of the Southern Center for Human Rights, has bleakly summarized the crisis of indigent defense, noting that while the right to counsel is widely celebrated, …

Investigating Perceptions Of Race And Ethnic Diversity Among Prospective Police Officers, Natalie Todak, Jessica Huff, Lois James
Investigating Perceptions Of Race And Ethnic Diversity Among Prospective Police Officers, Natalie Todak, Jessica Huff, Lois James
Criminology and Criminal Justice Faculty Publications
Many have suggested police diversity will improve police-community relations, but research testing this hypothesis is inconclusive. We investigated perceptions of police race, ethnicity, and diversity in a heterogeneous sample of prospective police officers. Data are drawn from interviews with 42 criminal justice college students in the Southwestern United States, of which 15 were Hispanic, and who each wanted to become a police officer. Participants supported diversity in policing, and collectively expressed a belief that race plays a central role in policing today. Furthermore, participants expressed support for the ideals of both passive and active representative bureaucracy. Hispanics in the sample …
