Relationship Between Vertical Jump Height And Pennation Angle Of The Rectus Femoris And Vastus Lateralis, Ahalee C. Cathey, Chinonye C. Agu-Udemba, Ty B. Palmer
International Journal of Exercise Science: Conference Proceedings
Ultrasound assessments of pennation angle (PA) are commonly used to examine muscle architecture in young adults. Pennation of the lower-body musculature has been suggested to be an important predictor of functional performances for strength-related activities. However, limited data exist regarding how PA is associated with performance during a vertical jump test. PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between vertical jump height and PA of the rectus femoris (RF) and vastus lateralis (VL) muscles in healthy, young females. METHODS: Seventeen healthy, young females (age = 22 ± 3 years; mass = 61 ± 8 …

Relationship Between Vertical Jump Height And Muscle Size And Quality Of The Rectus Femoris And Vastus Lateralis, Chinonye C. Agu-Udemba, Ahalee C. Cathey, Ty B. Palmer
International Journal of Exercise Science: Conference Proceedings
Ultrasound assessments of muscle cross-sectional area (CSA) and echo intensity (EI) are commonly used to examine muscle size and quality in younger adults. Greater muscle CSA and lower EI values of the rectus femoris (RF) and vastus lateralis (VL) have been associated with improvements in lower-body muscle power and consequently, may play a significant role in the maximum height achieved during a vertical jump test. PURPOSE: To examine the relationships between vertical jump height and CSA and EI of the RF and VL muscles in healthy, young females. METHODS: Seventeen young females (age = 22 ± 3 years; …

Background Bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) is often used to estimate total body water (TBW), intracellular body water (ICW), extracellular body water (ECW), and body fat percentage (BF%). A common restriction for BIA analysis is abstinence from caffeine 12-h prior to testing. However, research has yet to determine whether the consumption of caffeine influences BIA testing results. The purpose of this study was to determine if the consumption of caffeine influences BIA-derived BF% and body water values in habitual caffeine users. Methods Twenty apparently healthy males (26.6 ± 4.1 years) identified as habitual caffeine consumers (≥ one 95 mg serving per …

Airline Marketing, Blaise P. Waguespack
Airline Marketing, Blaise P. Waguespack
Publications
The role of airline marketing has now expanded to include a more expansive view of the travel planning process. The chapter utilises a classic four P's approach – product, place, promotion and price – while reviewing some of the possible legal and regulatory concerns that impact on how airline marketing is addressed today. Airlines must determine what is the right product for the premium passenger mix of the airline. The chapter examines the role of how a classic promotional tool, sponsorship, can be combined with the tools of social media to provide an overall promotion campaign to target audiences. As …

The Relationship Between Athlete Identity And Career Exploration And Engagement In Division Ii Athletes, Jade M. Bell, Steven Prewitt, Vipa Bernhardt, Dean Culpepper
International Journal of Exercise Science
International Journal of Exercise Science 11(5): 493-502, 2018. There are over 480,000 individuals who compete under the governing of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) but only a few of these student athletes continue to compete after college. The aim of this study was to assess whether there is an association between athlete identity and career exploration and engagement among current student athletes. Student athletes (N = 44) from various National Collegiate Athletic Association Division II institutions in the Southwest United States participated in the study. Participants were asked to complete an online survey consisting of demographic questions, the …

Effects Of A 60 Minute On Ice Game Simulation On The Balance Error Scoring System, Philip Cameron, Noelle C. Soltero, Justin Byers
International Journal of Exercise Science
International Journal of Exercise Science 11(6): 462-467, 2018. Mild traumatic brain injuries (mTBIs) are common in contact sports. There is an association between mTBIs and altered motor function. BioSway technology measures individuals’ balance using the Balance Error Scoring System (BESS). Prior to incorporating BESS testing in concussion protocol, other variables that influence the BESS test require review. The objective of this study is to determine if game fatigue in hockey players also influences the BESS score. 23 male (21.08 ± 1.09) National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) athletes were tested using the BioSway™ (Biodex, USA). The BESS test measures the Sway …
