Camping For The Need Of Speed: An Analysis Of The Motives Of Nascar Fanatics To Rv Camp At Racing Events, Dylan P. Williams, Cheryl R. Rode, Mark A. Slavich

Global Sport Business Journal

Traveling to attend sporting events has become an increasingly popular activity in recent years. Prior investigations of sport tourism found individuals travel primarily because of the social aspect of the experience while the location of the event was relatively unimportant. Although traveling via recreational vehicles (RVs) gained in popularity, little research examined RV tourism in the context of NASCAR. Therefore, this study investigated the motives of RV tailgaters to Talladega Superspeedway and the role of destination image in individuals’ decision to travel. Results displayed RV tailgaters to Talladega were most motivated by the event’s destination image. In addition, race attractiveness …

The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between participant perceived event service quality and direct spending at a marathon event while controlling for demographic differences. Data for this study was collected online after the conclusion of the event from 1,370 respondents who participated in a multi-day marathon event. A relatively strong positive relationship was found between the marathon participant’s perceived event service quality levels and direct spending at the event. The higher the level of perceived service quality then more direct spending by event participants occurred. It was found that demographic data could not be used to …

The 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil offered researchers an opportunity to investigate how Olympic broadcasters utilized social media to promote their televised coverage. This study focuses on posts shared by the National Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) on the network’s official Olympic Instagram account. Guided by the theory of the firm, the research examined nearly 1,050 Instagram posts from @NBCOlympics shared between the Opening and Closing Ceremonies to determine what percentage were promotional, what sports were more heavily promoted, and which athletes were featured most often in the network feeds. The analysis revealed that only 10% of all …

Organisational Sustainability In National Sports Federations In Egypt, Fawzy Alawady

Plymouth Business School Theses

Organisational sustainability is associated with the concept of organisational development, which emanates from the resources and capabilities that the organisation has in place. Sustainable organisations possess a strategic system, which is reliant on sustainable resources, and good capabilities that lead to strategic success. This study sets out the extent to which the Egyptian National Olympic Committee (ENOC) and its members the National Federations (NFs) are able to create organisational sustainability. The purpose of this research is to empirically study organisational sustainability and to provide insight into its creation within NFs. It has used a mixed-methods strategy that involved two phases. …

Sports Logistics Outsourcing: A Conceptual And Qualitative Study In The Equine Industry, Stephen E. Genchev, Gordon Gray, Stacia Wert-Gray

AMTP Proceedings 2018

The equine industry, despite its considerable impact on the economy, remains overlooked in contemporary supply chain research. The current paper aims at narrowing the gap along two directions: First, the equine industry supply chain is conceptualized, and its main participants and relationships involved are identified. Second, the complex nature of these relationships is illustrated within the context of a specific strategic decision, outsourcing. For years, outsourcing was considered a formal transaction-cost economics decision with little or no consideration for additional factors. This limiting perspective provides the stimulus for the current study’s use of a qualitative approach to get a better …

Enhancing The Fan Experience In The Sport Industry, Christ Croft, Dennis Phillips, Brian Crow Jan 2018

Enhancing The Fan Experience In The Sport Industry, Christ Croft, Dennis Phillips, Brian Crow

AMTP Proceedings 2018

Much attention has been given lately to the term “fan experience”, often in the context of improved Wi-Fi connectivity, larger video boards, game-day smartphone apps, and entertainment during every stoppage of play (Muret, 2014; Kaplan, 2014). What is often overlooked in this focus on technology is the human element; namely, how game-day staff and team personnel interact with guests. These interactions can include security checkpoints, providing accurate information, crowd management, parking control, access control, and all other guest touchpoints. When staff members work in a culture of service, these guest interactions will reflect positively on your venue.

Measuring The Effectiveness Of Nba Marketing Techniques: A Comparison Between Small And Large Market Teams, Kyle Ronkartz, Ronald Dick, Christopher Atwater, Robert Baker, Craig Esherick

AMTP Proceedings 2018

“NBA teams use a variety of marketing techniques to try to increase game attendance.” (Dick and Turner 2007) Past studies have been done on comparisons of marketing techniques in different seasons (Dick and Sack, 2003), and the comparison of value between fans and marketing directors (Dick and Turner, 2007). Thus, this study is focused on comparing the difference in the value of marketing strategies between “small” market and “large” market teams in the NBA. This study will give us a better understanding on the difference in marketing techniques for “small” market teams compared to the “large” market teams.
