A Review Of Collaborative Biopsychosocial Healthcare Worldwide, Sadie Teal, John Charleson, Jyssica Seebeck, John Thoburn
School of Psychology, Family, and Community Research Conference
This review calls attention to the importance of collaborative care in international settings and highlight advances in models of care that are emerging globally. As our understanding of physical and mental health increases, healthcare continues to move towards a systemic approach to the mind-body dichotomy. This shift has resulted in increased provider collaboration and formation of multidisciplinary healthcare organizations. We propose that collaborative care is an effective way for providers to meet the physical and mental healthcare needs of patients across cultures. We further propose categorizing collaborative care models on a continuum of the degree of physical and functional integration.

Lincoln Memorial University Law Review Archive
The purpose of this paper is examine how the current federal restitution statute and the Supreme Court’s decision in Paroline v. United States sabatoges financial recovery for victims of child pornography; and how Congress ¾ which clearly wants to provide for these victims could find the answer in copyright law. Part I of this article frames the current breakdown of justice for victims of child pornography using “The Brothers of Nablus,” story, found in the Bible. Part II deconstructs the sharply divided and complex Supreme Court plurality decision in Paroline v. United States, Part III analyzes the confusing aftermath of …

Military Parent’S Ptsd And Children’S Mental Health: A Scoping Review, Tara Collins
Military Parent’S Ptsd And Children’S Mental Health: A Scoping Review, Tara Collins
The Qualitative Report
It is widely recognized that the mental health of parents impacts children’s well-being. A scoping review was conducted to examine what was known from the research specific to mental health issues facing children as a consequence of their military parent’s PTSD. The parameters of this review were based on Arksey and O’Malley’s (2005) recommendations for completion of a scoping review. From the search, 163 articles were located from 5 electronic databases. Of those, 35 were related to the topic and, after implementing the inclusion and exclusion criteria 21 were included in this scoping review. Although the scoping review demonstrated that …
The Effect Of Mantram Repetition On Qol In Low-Income, Urban Dwelling Older Adults, Marissa Katerina Mackiewicz
The Effect Of Mantram Repetition On Qol In Low-Income, Urban Dwelling Older Adults, Marissa Katerina Mackiewicz
Dissertations
Background: Quality of life is an important concept of increasing significance for the healthcare in the United States, especially when taken in perspective of the aging population. Low-income, urban dwelling older adults are challenged in a number of ways that may negatively impact their QOL. This unique group is prone to report lower QOL, therefore, interventions targeted to improve QOL are timely. The purpose of this study was to describe the effect of mantram repetition (MR) on QOL in a sample of low-income, urban dwelling older adults.
Methods: A quasi-experimental pre-posttest study was conducted using a sample population of low-income …
A Common Goal: Primary Care And Psychiatry Improve Depression Detection And Outcomes, Katherine Kilkenny
A Common Goal: Primary Care And Psychiatry Improve Depression Detection And Outcomes, Katherine Kilkenny
Doctor of Nursing Practice Final Manuscripts
Background: Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) affects over 15 million (6.7%) adult Americans. While one in four primary care patients suffer from depressive symptoms, MDD is accurately diagnosed as little as 25% of the time.
Purpose: Implementation of an evidence-based protocol outlining the process for screening, behavioral health referral, and the role of a collaborative care team would improve detection and treatment of adult MDD patients in the ambulatory setting.
Process: A systematic Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) based screening protocol was implemented. Every new and existing patient completed the PHQ-9 during scheduled primary care appointments. If a patient scored 15 or …
Reducing Pediatric Asthma Visits In The Emergency Department, Kathleen Grimley Ahn
Reducing Pediatric Asthma Visits In The Emergency Department, Kathleen Grimley Ahn
Doctor of Nursing Practice Final Manuscripts
Purpose/Aims: The purpose of this project was to reduce the number of unnecessary pediatric asthma management visits to an urban emergency department (ED) by performing a brief action plan for improved National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) guideline adherence. This plan was shared with parents during an NP-initiated follow-up phone call.
Rationale/Background: Inadequate outpatient management of pediatric asthma can result in avoidable visits to the ED. Acute exacerbations comprise a large portion of pediatric asthma patients seeking care in the ED. Reasons for persistent under-utilization of outpatient care for asthma management in primary care settings are multifactorial. Daily symptom …

Considerations In Promoting Parent And Family Involvement, Staci M. Zolkoski, Donna M. Sayman, Calli G. Lewis-Chiu
Diversity, Social Justice, and the Educational Leader
It has been recognized for decades that parent and family (PF) involvement is a vital component of students' educational experiences. Moreover, PF involvement is identified as an important protective factor for students. Thus, school administrators and educators understanding and encouraging positive relationships between families and schools may be one way to promote academic, social, and emotional success for youth throughout their lives. The purpose of this paper is to examine the literature on PF involvement and delineate a proposed model of PF involvement to foster resilience in children and youth.

A Queer And Trans-Inclusive Response To Intimate Partner Violence, Leighann Shields
A Queer And Trans-Inclusive Response To Intimate Partner Violence, Leighann Shields
University Honors Theses
While intimate partner violence (IPV) has become widely recognized as a prevalent social issue within recent decades, IPV continues to be conceptualized as an epidemic of male violence against women. This heteronormative understanding of intimate partner violence subsequently excludes queer and trans survivors of IPV, discursively, socially, and institutionally. However, the scarce literature that exists on this topic indicates that rates of queer and trans IPV are equal to, or greater than, rates of heteronormative IPV, and that access to advocacy resources is limited for this population. This study sought to identify the unique barriers LGBTQ survivors face, and to …

Day Of Self-Care At Trillium Family Services, Courtney M. Bladen
University Honors Theses
This paper is the documentation of the planning, execution, and reflection of the event Day of Self-Care at Trillium Family Services Parry Center. Self-care is a tool used by many people to make sure they are taking care of themselves mentally and physically. Before the actual event, I researched self-care and different ideas that could be done at the event. This research included journal articles, volunteering, exploring my own self-care, and collaborating with staff at Trillium. When planning the event, we relied on donations from the community for supplies that were required, making sure that we followed the quarterly timeline, …
Testimonies Of Identity And Intimate Partner Violence, Jamie Berrien
Testimonies Of Identity And Intimate Partner Violence, Jamie Berrien
Master's Theses
Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) is an epidemic that has impacted millions of women in our country. IPV is found in every community and impacts women from all races, ethnicities, religion, background, and socio-economic status. Yet, research shows that women in the United States who are not a part of the dominant culture experience IPV at a much higher rate than white women. This study focuses on the sacred testimonies of six women who have experienced IPV, as well as an analysis of the women's identities and other forms of oppression which impacts her experiences and survival of the violence.
An Examination Of The Impact That Communities In Schools' Interventions Make On High School Academic Performance, Coleton Cooper Dean Spruill
An Examination Of The Impact That Communities In Schools' Interventions Make On High School Academic Performance, Coleton Cooper Dean Spruill
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The following study seeks to answer the question: What impact does a local Communities In Schools (CIS), a nationwide dropout prevention program, affiliate's interventions have on a high school student's academic performance, absenteeism, and completion rates? To do this, the study examines the grade point average, absenteeism rate, and completion rate of 1298 students across four years of existing data from a local school district. For comparison purposes, the study uses a quasi-experimental approach and breaks the data into four groups: two experimental groups (At-Risk CIS students and Not-At-Risk CIS students) and two control groups (At-Risk students and Not-At-Risk students). …
Using An Educational Session To Improve The Knowledge, Confidence, And Beliefs About Psychopharmacology For Behavioral Health Clinicians, Sharon Bennett
Using An Educational Session To Improve The Knowledge, Confidence, And Beliefs About Psychopharmacology For Behavioral Health Clinicians, Sharon Bennett
Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects
Background: Psychiatric illness is unpredictable, has spasmodic tendencies, and represents one of the most reported types of disabilities in the United States. Behavioral health clinicians are front line respondents and considered a major ally to providers by supporting medication management recommendations and referring new patients for medication management. Basic evidence-based psychopharmacology improves behavioral health clinicians’ knowledge, however, is inadequate in curricula, and many undergraduate and graduate programs lack one dedicated psychopharmacology class. This abbreviated knowledge contributes to inadequate referrals for treatment and poor confidence in supporting the practitioners’ medication recommendations.
Method: This project examined behavioral health clinicians’ knowledge, confidence, and …

Parental Education And Perceptions Of Personal Self-Efficacy, Anthony R. Eldridge
Parental Education And Perceptions Of Personal Self-Efficacy, Anthony R. Eldridge
Student Theses and Dissertations
Researchers are aware of the impact of high individual levels of self-efficacy and academic success [Coy-Ogan, 2009; Gardner & Holley, 2011; Hayden, 2008; U.S. Department of Education, National Center for Education Statistics, 2001; Zavala, 2014]. Yet, we still lack investigation on the relationships between parent education and their offspring’s level of self-efficacy. Specific self-efficacy variables such as academic, research, and social have been identified (Williams, 2005); however, they have not been fully explored in the literature from the perspective of the university student population. The current research evaluated parent education level and its relationship to the self-efficacy beliefs of college …
Investigating Attitude Change Through Psychoeducational Interventions, Elizabeth Claire Toal
Investigating Attitude Change Through Psychoeducational Interventions, Elizabeth Claire Toal
Student Theses
Public perception of individuals charged with sexual offenses tends to be both negative and misinformed, leading to popular support for non-evidence based harsh and punitive sentencing. These fear-based attitudes are often more impactful than research in influencing public policy or legislation regarding individuals charged with sexual offenses. Kleban and Jeglic (2012) observed that discussion-based psychoeducation about individuals charged with sexual offenses resulted in significantly fewer negative attitudes about this offending population. The current study replicated these results with the addition of a Public Service Announcement (PSA) intervention featuring an interactive psychoeducational video addressing myths and misperceptions about individuals charged with …
From Travellers To Activist Global Citizens? Practitioner Reflections On An Activist/Volunteer Tourist Project, Sameena Dalwai, Brendan Donegan
From Travellers To Activist Global Citizens? Practitioner Reflections On An Activist/Volunteer Tourist Project, Sameena Dalwai, Brendan Donegan
Journal of Tourism Consumption and Practice
Where their parents sought an essentially passive observation of the exotic while "roughing it‟ on foot and in sleeper class, a new generation of young travellers from the global North seek authentic experience in the global South through opportunities to actively engage with the realities of poverty-stricken slums as volunteer tourists. Free of their conventional social ties and uninhibited in their attempts to carve out new global citizen roles for themselves, the youths experience a bonding „communitas‟ with each other, and when they return home their social status is raised in the eyes of employers and peers. This paper focuses …

Collaborations: A Journal of Community-Based Research and Practice
University and community collaborations have great potential to develop culturally adapted evidence- based interventions. However, little guidance is available on effective approaches for creating and implementing such partnerships specifically to culturally adapt interventions. The purpose of this paper is to introduce Community Collaborative Cultural Adaptation (CCCA), an approach for engaging community members as partners in the cultural adaptation of an evidence based intervention. CCCA is illustrated through the cultural adaptation of a behavioral intervention aimed at reducing unsafe sex among teen girls. The approach includes the following three stages: (1) preparatory (i.e., community engagement, recruitment of community members to the …
