Fluorescent Probes For Detection Of Aldehyde Compounds, Piyanan Pranee
Fluorescent Probes For Detection Of Aldehyde Compounds, Piyanan Pranee
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Long-chain aldehyde compounds such as hexanal, heptanal, octanal and nonanal are regarded as potential biomarkers of many lung cancer disease and served as the important quality indicators of fat and oil products. As advantage of the hydrophobic tails of hydrocarbon chain and hydrophilic head of aldehyde, we expected that long-chained aldehydes might act as the induced-fit surfactants to form the completely self-assembling organized nanomicelle. In this research, the nanomicellar probes for specific long-chain aldehyde compounds have been achieved in the challenge concept such that among aldehydes especially long-chain aldehyde compounds, would react with Naph-NH2 to form complete micelle-like particles via …
Styryl-Bodipy Fluorescent Sensors For Reactive Oxygen Species Detection In Cells, Suthikorn Jantra
Styryl-Bodipy Fluorescent Sensors For Reactive Oxygen Species Detection In Cells, Suthikorn Jantra
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Fluorescent probes are great tools for visualization and imaging of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in living cells. Although several probes perform well with green emission, however, to maximize light penetration for tissue imaging and minimize interference from auto-fluorescence, a probe with longer wavelength is desirable. In this study, three new boron dipyrromethene (BODIPY)-based fluorescent probes SB1, SB2 and SB4 have been developed for detection of ROS. Each probe has two styryl groups anchored to the BODIPY pyrrole rings to extend the emission wavelength into the red region (634–662 nm). Among them, we found that SB2 containing electron-rich p-hydroxyl styryl groups …
Oxidized Carbon Particles From Styrene, Titiporn Sansureerungsikul
Oxidized Carbon Particles From Styrene, Titiporn Sansureerungsikul
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
It has been reported the spherical shape of oxidized carbon nanoparticulates shows higher ability to penetrate phospholipid bilayer membrane than tubular and sheet shapes. However, the effect of the particle size on this membrane penetration ability have never been investigated. In this work, we synthesized various sizes of oxidized carbon spheres through a four steps process. Firstly, we adjusted the surfactants and styrene concentrations to prepare polystyrene of various sizes. Then, the polystyrene particles of selected sizes were hypercrosslinked via Frieldel-Craft alkylation reaction. After that, hypercrosslinked polystyreneparticles were pyrolyzed under N2 atmosphere to obtain carbon nanospheres of various sizes. The …

The studied conditions include combinations of shaking (dynamic) and static period of incubation, bacterial concentration, initial pH, temperature, and initial dye concentration. The results showed that the combined …
Application Of Reduced Graphene Oxide/ Natural Rubber Composite For Petroleum Removal In Sea Water, Siripak Songsaeng
Application Of Reduced Graphene Oxide/ Natural Rubber Composite For Petroleum Removal In Sea Water, Siripak Songsaeng
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
In this study, the natural rubber (NR) composite foam was prepared to enhance oil adsorption performance of NR foam. The reduced graphene oxide (rGO) was synthesized from graphite waste by oxidation and reduction processes. In the oxidation step, different oxidation conditions (thermal-sonication and stirring-sonication) were studied in order to achieve the highest interlayer spacing in graphite structure. Then, the reduction was carried out using L-ascorbic acid (L-AA) as a reducing agent. Furthermore, morphology and surface properties of the synthesized rGO were investigated. To prepare the NR composite foams, NR latex was mixed with various contents of rGO (0.25, 0.5, 1.0 …
Preceding-Jump Simplex Method, Natdanai Kafakthong
Preceding-Jump Simplex Method, Natdanai Kafakthong
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
A practical linear programming solver uses the simplex method to identify the optimal solution by iteratively searching among adjacent feasible vertices. It may visit numerous vertices before finding the optimal one for a large linear programming problem taking a long time to succeed. This research proposes a heuristic method to alleviate this issue by jumping to a new vertex close to the optimal one before performing the simplex method. The new vertex is identified by first jumping from the initial vertex along the gradient vector of the objective function or alternative direction if the objective direction points out of the …
Closed-Form Formula For Pricing Discretely-Sampled Moment Swaps On One-Dimensional Ito Process, Kittisak Chumpong
Closed-Form Formula For Pricing Discretely-Sampled Moment Swaps On One-Dimensional Ito Process, Kittisak Chumpong
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Moment swaps are essentially forward contracts on realized higher moments of log-returns of a specified underlying asset, which play an important role in protection against different kinds of market shocks. Variance, skewness, and kurtosis swaps are examples of moment swaps currently traded in markets. To facilitate market practitioners, this work provides a simple and easy-to-use pricing formula of moment swaps on discrete sampling under the Ito process, extended Black-Scholes model for stock prices and Schwartz model for commodity prices. Furthermore, the interesting topics of the fair prices are also investigated. Finally, Monte Carlo simulations are performed to support the accuracy …
Covering Of Objects Related To Rupert Property, Pongbunthit Tonpho
Covering Of Objects Related To Rupert Property, Pongbunthit Tonpho
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
One problem related to covering problem is whether one object has Rupert property. An object K in R³ has the Rupert property if a hole could be cut through one copy of K with the same size to permit another copy to pass through it. There are objects in R³ which have Rupert property, such as a cube. But not all of objects in R³ has Rupert property, such as a sphere. It is interesting to check that a given object has Rupert property. In this work, we construct useful lemmas for studying this problem. Furthermore, we apply these lemmas …

The research was designed to study IoT security vulnerabilities and how to better protect IoT communications. By researching the system a Fitbit uses for communications, this research analyzes and reveals security defects in the IoT architecture. The research first uses a man-in the middle (MITM) attack to intercept and analyze the Fitbit system traffic to identify security weakness. Then uses a replay attack to further validate these flaws. Finally, countermeasures against these security threats are proposed. The research findings show the Fitbit’s IoT communication architecture has serious information security risks. Firstly, the Fitbit tested does not encrypt the raw data …

Mitigating Man-In-The-Middle Attacks On Mobile Devices By Blocking Insecure Http Traffic Without Using Vpn, Kevin Chong, Muhammad Imran Malik, Peter Hannay
Australian Information Security Management Conference
Mobile devices are constantly connected to the Internet, making countless connections with remote services. Unfortunately, many of these connections are in cleartext, visible to third-parties while in transit. This is insecure and opens up the possibility for man-in-the-middle attacks. While there is little control over what kind of connection running apps can make, this paper presents a solution in blocking insecure HTTP packets from leaving the device. Specifically, the proposed solution works on the device, without the need to tunnel packets to a remote VPN server, and without special privileges such as root access. Speed tests were performed to quantify …

Traditional firewalls are losing their effectiveness against new and evolving threats today. Artificial intelligence (AI) driven firewalls are gaining popularity due to their ability to defend against threats that are not fully known. However, a firewall can only protect devices in the same network it is deployed in, leaving mobile devices unprotected once they leave the network. To comprehensively protect a mobile device, capabilities of an AI-driven firewall can enhance the defensive capabilities of the device. This paper proposes porting AI technologies to mobile devices for defence against today’s ever-evolving threats. A defensive AI technique providing firewall-like capability is being …

The Impact Of Personality Traits On User’S Susceptibility To Social Engineering Attacks, Brian Cusack, Kemi Adedokun
Australian Information Security Management Conference
Phishing attacks and other social manipulation attacks are an everyday occurrence for most workers in their email boxes. Others experience social engineering tricks to take and divert payments on legitimate electronic commerce transactions. This exploratory pilot study aims to examine the impact of user’s personality on the likelihood of user’s susceptibility to social engineering attacks. Five expert interviews were conducted to investigate what traits makes some individuals more or sometimes less susceptible to social engineering attack than others. The personality traits were obtained using the big five personality model for correlation with interview data. The result suggests that users with …

We present a general Bayesian hierarchical framework for conducting nonstationary frequency analysis of multiple hydrologic variables. In this, annual maxima from each variable are assumed to follow a generalized extreme value (GEV) distribution in which the location parameter is allowed to vary in time. A Gaussian elliptical copula is used to model the joint distribution of all variables. We demonstrate the utility of this framework with a joint frequency analysis model of annual peak snow water equivalent (SWE), annual peak flow, and annual peak reservoir elevation at Taylor Park dam in Colorado, USA. Indices of largescale climate drivers—El Ni~no Southern …

The basic idea of postal banking is to have a public bank that would offer a wide range of transaction services, including deposit-taking and small lending. Post offices could offer these services at a much lower cost than banks and the fringe banking industry because (1) they can use natural economies of scale and scope to lower the costs of the products; (2) their existing infrastructure significantly reduces overhead costs, and (3) they do not have profit-demanding shareholders and would be able to offer products at cost.

We report measurements of sin2β and cos2β using a time-dependent Dalitz plot analysis of B0→D(*)h0 with D→KS0π+π− decays, where the light unflavored and neutral hadron h0 is a π0, η, or ω meson. The analysis uses a combination of the final data sets of the BaBar and Belle experiments containing 471×106 and 772×106 BB¯ pairs collected at the ϒ(4S) resonance at the asymmetric-energy B factories PEP-II at SLAC and KEKB at KEK, respectively. We measure sin2β=0.80±0.14(stat)±0.06(syst)±0.03(model) and cos2β=0.91±0.22(stat)±0.09(syst)±0.07(model). The result for the direct measurement of the angle is β=(22.5±4.4(stat)±1.2(syst)±0.6(model))°. The last quoted uncertainties are due to the composition of the …
