Artificial Intelligence Based Personal Assistant For Handling Phone Calls, Manikandan Gopalakrishnan
Artificial Intelligence Based Personal Assistant For Handling Phone Calls, Manikandan Gopalakrishnan
Defensive Publications Series
When making calls to business entities, an individual often needs to navigate a menu of choices using the phone keypad until a desired option is found. If the desired choice requires speaking with a human, the individual may further need to wait on hold until someone is available to answer the call, thus wasting time. In the case of incoming calls, the number of the calling party may be unknown or blocked. Many such calls are from automated systems used for telemarketing. The techniques of this disclosure describe an Artificial Intelligence (AI) based personal assistant for handling incoming and outgoing …

Teaching To Assess: An Evaluation Of Assessment Education For Secondary Teacher Candidates, Daniel M. Frederking
Teaching To Assess: An Evaluation Of Assessment Education For Secondary Teacher Candidates, Daniel M. Frederking
Theses and Dissertations
This study examined the assessment instruction of a four-year undergraduate secondary education program and its alignment to the teaching standards and the summative teacher licensure assessment. Document analyses were conducted on the program’s syllabi as well as the assessment portions of the InTASC standards and the handbook of the edTPA. Results highlighted several areas of misalignment in the areas of categorical concurrence, depth of knowledge, and range of knowledge. Also of note, preservice teachers in different secondary subject areas are receiving different amounts of assessment instruction. Additionally, local edTPA data was examined to highlight areas of strength and weakness. Students …
Human Rights And Cultural Heritage: Protecting Museum Professionals During Armed Conflict, Jennifer Lee Reilly
Human Rights And Cultural Heritage: Protecting Museum Professionals During Armed Conflict, Jennifer Lee Reilly
Seton Hall University Dissertations and Theses (ETDs)
The purpose of this thesis is to address the issue of protecting museum professionals in areas of armed conflict. Recent conflicts have increased public awareness of cultural heritage sites in danger. Organizations such as UNESCO condemned the destruction of Palmyra and the desecration of the Mosul Museum. Despite the public outrage, there is little consideration given to professionals who work at these institutions and who care for the collections. Examining the historical accounts of museum professionals in conflict zones provides the context to the suggestions made in this text. Possible solutions and methods proposed throughout the text include the expansion …
Treating Resistance As Data In Qualitative Interviews, Dimitra Kizlari, Kalliopi Fouseki
Treating Resistance As Data In Qualitative Interviews, Dimitra Kizlari, Kalliopi Fouseki
The Qualitative Report
Scientific interviews provide a useful resource for qualitative researchers studying people’s perceptions on contemporary phenomena. This article contributes to the large body of literature on qualitative interviews by investigating a rather common but under-reported pattern in interviews, that of resistance. Resistance is a form of power that the participant maintains and can exercise at any moment. The phenomenon knows various expressions from a refusal on the side of the participant to sign the consent form to question dodging or embellished accounts. Two case studies are used to underpin the basic argument that resistance in interviews may be a valuable finding …
#Metoo: Personal Accounts Of Sexual Violence On Facebook Analyzing Individual Stories To Reveal Themes About Gender, Power, And Intersectional Factors, Lauren Depoint
Theses
This study examines the types of narratives constructed about experiences with sexual violence shared in Facebook posts using the hashtag #MeToo. Feminist and intersectional theories were used to contextualize a textual analysis of 61 public posts to explore how individuals were presenting their experiences for a mass audience online in the absence of traditional gatekeepers. Most of the posts featured graphic details, strong emotion, and patterns of internalized misogyny. Stories shared revealed troubling power dynamics involving disability, race, and gender. Intersectional groups are underrepresented in online spaces, indicating a problematic absence of these individuals within online movements like #MeToo that …
Perceptions Of Non-Americans Towards American Tv Series, Thaarika Charumathy Seetharaman
Perceptions Of Non-Americans Towards American Tv Series, Thaarika Charumathy Seetharaman
Theses
Television drama is one of the most entertaining genre of the media industry, and it serves as a socialization platform (Greenberg, 1982). American TV series have gained audience and fans from all around the world which opens up the scope for examining the effects of American media on the secondary audience. Drawing on the framework of cultivation theory, this study examined the effect of American TV series on non-American population. The results suggested that the cultivation effects are dependent on age and gender of the respondents, in connection with the genre of the series influencing the audience’s framing of the …

Barriers Preventing Healthcare Providers From Utilizing Linguistic Services For Limited English Proficiency Patients, Olena Bohachyk
Grace Peterson Nursing Research Colloquium
Abstract
Background: Limited English proficiency (LEP) population continues to grow; and healthcare providers now face communication challenges when providing care to LEP patients. Multiple studies show that a rate of interpretive assistance provided remains low and patients with LEP tend to have higher risk for adverse effects when compared to English speakers.
Objectives: The purpose of this integrative literature review was to identify the existing barriers contributing to underutilization of interpretive services among medical personnel when providing care to LEP patients, and provide potential suggestions to improve the linguistic competence.
Method: An integrative literature review was conducted using the following …

Grace Peterson Nursing Research Colloquium
Background: Carbonated soft drinks are one of the largest sources of calories in the American diet, providing over 5% of caloric intake, and no significant nutritional value. Governments across the globe have begun to implement sugar sweetened beverage taxes in an attempt to stem the proliferation of these health issues, but such policies remain unpopular and implementation difficult.
Objectives: The purpose of this integrative literature review was to examine the public perception of sugar sweetened beverage taxes and to determine what strategies are needed to successfully implement similar policies in the future.
Method: An integrative literature review …
