Report On The Condition Trend Of The Western Australian Pastoral Resource Base 2017, Andrew Watson, Philip Thomas
Natural resources published reports
This report has been prepared to satisfy the Commissioner for Soil and Land Conservation’s obligation under section 137 (2) of the Land Administration Act 1997 to report on the current condition of land under pastoral lease in Western Australia.
Pastoral leases for livestock grazing cover 40% of the Western Australian rangelands (about 860 000 square kilometres). Data in this report is presented at the land conservation district (LCD) scale.
Rangeland condition is determined with regard to the presence of perennial pasture species that are productive and highly palatable to livestock, and soil condition. Although assessing rangeland condition by on-ground assessment …

When legal researchers search in online databases for the information they need to solve a legal problem, they need to remember that the algorithms that are returning results to them were designed by humans. The world of legal research is a human-constructed world, and the biases and assumptions the teams of humans that construct the online world bring to the task are imported into the systems we use for research. This article takes a look at what happens when six different teams of humans set out to solve the same problem: how to return results relevant to a searcher’s query …

Its Own Dubious Battle: The Impossible Defense Of An Effective Right To Strike, Ahmed White
Its Own Dubious Battle: The Impossible Defense Of An Effective Right To Strike, Ahmed White

One of the most important statutes ever enacted, the National Labor Relations Act envisaged the right to strike as the centerpiece of a system of labor law whose central aims included dramatically diminishing the pervasive exploitation and steep inequality that are endemic to modern capitalism. These goals have never been more relevant. But they have proved difficult to realize via the labor law, in large part because an effective right to strike has long been elusive, undermined by courts, Congress, the NLRB, and powerful elements of the business community. Recognizing this, labor scholars have made the restoration of the right …

While slave-owning students at Princeton rarely constituted a majority of students, they were often a large plurality of the students in the antebellum period. Because of Princeton’s historic role in educating southerners, it has sometimes been referred to as the most southern of the Ivy League schools. So many students from the United States South enrolled at Princeton during the first several decades of the college that one observer wrote that one might take Princeton for a ‘Southern college slipped from its geographical moorings.’ This article explores the extent to which and whether Princeton behaved like a southern institution in …

Research outputs 2014 to 2021
Despite the availability of several homogenous LDL-C assays, calculated Friedewald's LDL-C equation remains the widely used formula in clinical practice. Several novel formulas developed in different populations have been reported to outperform the Friedewald formula. This study validated the existing LDL-C formulas and derived a modified LDL-C formula specific to a Ghanaian population. In this comparative study, we recruited 1518 participants, derived a new modified Friedewald's LDL-C (M-LDL-C) equation, evaluated LDL-C by Friedewald's formula (F-LDL-C), Martin's formula (N-LDL-C), Anandaraja's formula (A-LDL-C), and compared them to direct measurement of LDL-C (D-LDL-C). The mean D-LDL-C (2.47±0.71 mmol/L) was significantly lower compared to …

Leaching Of A Mongolian Chalcopyrite Concentrate, Nicholas J. Welham, Jadambaa Temuujin, Nader Setoudeh
Research outputs 2014 to 2021
A Mongolian chalcopyrite flotation concentrate was leached using sodium hypochlorite adjusted to different pH using hydrochloric acid. It was found that using a starting pH of below 5.0 resulted in more efficient leaching. The extent of chalcopyrite leaching was determined by the concentration of sodium hypochlorite with > 40% dissolution being achieved. The residue after leaching was found to consist primarily of unreacted chalcopyrite which would be suitable for further leaching or smelting.
