Noninvasive brain stimulation techniques are used in experimental and clinical fields for their potential effects on brain network dynamics and behavior. Transcranial electrical stimulation (TES), including transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) and transcranial alternating current stimulation (tACS), has gained popularity because of its convenience and potential as a chronic therapy. However, a mechanistic understanding of TES has lagged behind its widespread adoption. Here, we review data and modelling on the immediate neurophysiological effects of TES in vitro as well as in vivo in both humans and other animals. While it remains unclear how typical TES protocols affect neural activity, we …

Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) is the second leading cause of death in adolescent groups in the world. In Indonesia, the rate of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-infected adolescents increases annually. Yogyakarta, well-known as the education city, has the highest number of HIV/AIDS cases in the productive age group of 20–29 years old, which means that they have been already infected with HIV since teen age. This study aimed to determine influential factors that affect adolescents' attitude toward HIV/AIDS prevention. The study was an analytic survey research with a cross-sectional design. Stratified random sampling was applied to select a sample size of …

The utilization of bricks made of styrofoam is expectedly able to be a soundproof for noise control and as a preventive action to reduce the steadily increasing prevalence of hearing loss. This study aimed to assess the use of sound absorption material in which styrofoam was utilized to reduce the noise exposure. In this study, fine aggregates (sand and styrofoam) were made with a mixture of cement with a composition of 1:4 and 1:6, also the addition of polystyrene waste with a percentage of 0%, 20%, 40%, 60%, and 80%. Determination of acoustical property of the mixture was done by …
Microbiome Diversity Of Coastal Tidal Floodwater In Southeastern Florida, Marissa Wickes
Microbiome Diversity Of Coastal Tidal Floodwater In Southeastern Florida, Marissa Wickes
HCNSO Student Theses and Dissertations
Over 3.7 million people are in high risk of coastal flooding and live within 1 mile of high tide in the US alone. The Atlantic coast is one of the most vulnerable areas due to its low elevation, large population, and economic importance (Bray, et. al, 2016). Coastal municipalities in the region of Southeast Florida, such as the cities of Miami, Miami Beach, Fort Lauderdale, etc., are at especial risk from coastal flooding related to sea level rise. The US National Climate Assessment has named Miami, Florida as the economically most vulnerable city impacted by this sea level rise …

Objective: To review glucose-lowering efficacy and changes in renal function associated with sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors among patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).
Data sources: A literature search of MEDLINE and Cochrane databases was performed from 2000 to August 2018 using search terms: SGLT2 inhibitors, sodium glucose co-transporter 2, canagliflozin, empagliflozin, dapagliflozin, ertugliflozin, and chronic kidney disease. References of identified articles were also reviewed.

Optimization Of Bacterial Expression And Purification Of Nipsnap1 Protein, Jay Michael Yarbro
Optimization Of Bacterial Expression And Purification Of Nipsnap1 Protein, Jay Michael Yarbro
Electronic Theses and Dissertations Archive
Nipsnap1 (4-nitrophenylphosphatase domain and non-neuronal SNAP25-like homolog 1) is a novel mitochondrial protein shown to interact with the intracellular domain of amyloid precursor protein (APP), one of the key biomarkers implicated in Alzheimer’s disease (AD) pathology. A formerly developed expression strategy for Nipsnap1 based on the pET-28a expression system showed direct binding of purified recombinant Nipsnap1 to NAD+ and NADP+. This was further confirmed using Circular Dichroism (CD) spectroscopy, indicating that NAD+ binding produces a structural change in Nipsnap1.To address the low yield of Nipsnap1 protein in the former expression system, several approaches and conditions were evaluated in this study. …
