A Study Of Adiponectin/Leptin Ratio In Adult Males With Metabolic Syndrome, Ann Khazaal Yaseen, Yousra Ahmed Abdulateef

Iraqi Postgraduate Medical Journal

BACKGROUND: Metabolic syndrome is a disorder of energy utilization and storage. It is a multi-component disease brought on by a combination of life style and environmental factors, with some populations exhibiting a genetic predisposition and type 2 diabetes. It is marked by abdominal obesity, elevated levels of triglyceride, low levels of HDL (good) cholesterol, high blood pressure and high blood sugar levels. Metabolic syndrome is a significant risk factor for the development of both type 2 diabetes and heart disease, also associated with fatty liver, and polycystic ovary syndrome. Recently two adipocytokines secreted from visceral adipose tissue leptin and adiponectin, …

Jurnal Kajian Bimbingan dan Konseling

The study aimed to develop CSFCM to improve student self-regulated learning. CSFCM is an application of solution-focused counseling integrated with creative arts. The developmental research consisted of three stages: (1) identify the self-regulated learning level; (2) formulating a hypothetical draft of CSFCM to improve student self-regulated learning; and (3) conducting product feasibility testing by experts and practitioners. Data analysis technique used quantitative descriptive analysis. The results showed that the CSFCM which consisting five stages of counseling was categorized as feasible to be implement in the schools.

A New Insight Into Underlying Disease Mechanism Through Semi-Parametric Latent Differential Network Model, Yong He, Jiadong Ji, Lei Xie, Xinsheng Zhang, Fuzhong Xue

Publications and Research

Background

In genomic studies, to investigate how the structure of a genetic network differs between two experiment conditions is a very interesting but challenging problem, especially in high-dimensional setting. Existing literatures mostly focus on differential network modelling for continuous data. However, in real application, we may encounter discrete data or mixed data, which urges us to propose a unified differential network modelling for various data types.

Results

We propose a unified latent Gaussian copula differential network model which provides deeper understanding of the unknown mechanism than that among the observed variables. Adaptive rank-based estimation approaches are proposed with the assumption …

Affordances On Facebook, Stress, And Emotional Support, Caitlin Rose Rethwish

Dissertations and Theses

This study discusses Facebook as a social network site and a social media application. It compares perceived emotional support, general life stress, and media affordance-based stress from two participant samples - one that reported using the Facebook desktop site most frequently to reach out for emotional support, and one that reported using the mobile application.

The media affordance measure asked participants if perceiving a media affordance was more likely to increase or decrease their stress. In both samples, persistence was more likely to decrease stress, and personalization was more likely to increase stress. On the Facebook Desktop site, searchability was …

Discerning Novel Splice Junctions Derived From Rna-Seq Alignment: A Deep Learning Approach, Yi Zhang, Xinan Liu, James N. Macleod, Jinze Liu

Computer Science Faculty Publications

Background: Exon splicing is a regulated cellular process in the transcription of protein-coding genes. Technological advancements and cost reductions in RNA sequencing have made quantitative and qualitative assessments of the transcriptome both possible and widely available. RNA-seq provides unprecedented resolution to identify gene structures and resolve the diversity of splicing variants. However, currently available ab initio aligners are vulnerable to spurious alignments due to random sequence matches and sample-reference genome discordance. As a consequence, a significant set of false positive exon junction predictions would be introduced, which will further confuse downstream analyses of splice variant discovery and abundance estimation.
