Factors Perceived By Multifamily Property Owners And Managers As Beneficial In Improving Energy Efficiency, Alex David Arneson
Factors Perceived By Multifamily Property Owners And Managers As Beneficial In Improving Energy Efficiency, Alex David Arneson
Department of Environmental Studies: Undergraduate Student Theses
Maintaining the existence of affordable housing stock is an important goal for most cities and
communities, as well as at the state and national level. Compared to single-family housing, the multifamily housing sector poses a unique set of challenges and barriers related to investments in energy efficiency. With more than 50 million Americans, many of whom are low income, living in multifamily housing, this sector presents vast opportunities to reduce energy consumption. Reducing our carbon footprint has become an important issue in today’s society. More than ever, there is increased demand to incorporate ‘green’ sustainable design elements and technologies into …

Social Determinants Of Health And What Mothers Say They Need And Want After Release From Jail., Elisabeth Stelson, Marjie Mogul, Holly Harner, Jeane Ann Grisso, Rosemary Frasso Phd, Msc, Cph
College of Population Health Faculty Papers
Identifying the biopsychosocial needs of mothers who have been released from jail is critical to understanding the best ways to support their health and stability after release. In May through August 2014, we interviewed 15 mothers who had been released from an urban jail about their reentry experiences, and we analyzed transcripts for themes. Eight domains of community reentry emerged through analysis: behavioral health services, education, employment, housing, material resources, medical care, relationships with children, and social support. Participants defined barriers to successful reentry, which paralleled the social determinants of health, and shared suggestions that could be used to mitigate …

User Attitudes About Duo Two-Factor Authentication At Byu, Jonathan Dutson
User Attitudes About Duo Two-Factor Authentication At Byu, Jonathan Dutson
Undergraduate Honors Theses
Simple password-based authentication provides insufficient protection against increasingly common incidents of online identity theft and data loss. Although two-factor authentication (2FA) provides users with increased protection against attackers, users have mixed feelings about the usability of 2FA. We surveyed the students, faculty, and staff of Brigham Young University (BYU) to measure user sentiment about DUO Security, the 2FA system adopted by BYU in 2017. We find that most users consider DUO to be annoying, and about half of those surveyed expressed a preference for authentication without using a second-factor. About half of all participants reported at least one instance of …

India is vulnerable to all kinds of natural hazards associated with land, ocean, biosphere, atmosphere, and snow/glaciers. These natural hazards impact large areas and the population living in the affected regions. India is surrounded by ocean on three sides and is vulnerable to cyclonic activities. Every year cyclones hit the east and west coasts of India, affecting the population living along the coasts and infrastructure and inland areas. The extent of the affected inland areas depends on the intensity of the cyclone. On 12 October 2014, a strong cyclone “Hudhud” hit the east coast of India that caused a high …

Effect Of Nramp1 Gene Polymorphism On Levels Of (Tnf-Α And Il-1Β) Cytokines In Cutaneous Leishmaniasis Patients In Iraq, Ghada B. Alomashi
Muthanna Medical Journal
Cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) is vector-borne disease, and endemic in most regions of Iraq especially with poor populations. Natural resistance-associated macrophage protein 1 (NRAMP1) gene play an essential role in susceptibility to CL and disease pathology, NRAMP1 influences a production and activation of pro-inflammatory cytokines (TNF-α and IL-1β). Pro- and anti-inflammatory cytokines play an essential role in susceptibility/ resistance and the immunopathogenesis of Leishmania infection, these cytokines are crucial factors in the initiation and enhances of protective immunity against Leishmania infection, this study aimed to studying effect of polymorphism in NRAMP1 genes on cytokines secretion, and their effect in susceptibility to …

Fred and Harriet Cox Senior Design Competition Projects
Part of every UNLV engineering student’s academic experience, the senior design project stimulates engineering innovation and entrepreneurship. Each student in their senior year chooses, plans, designs, and prototypes a product in this required element of the curriculum. A capstone to the student’s educational career, the senior design project encourages the student to use everything learned in the engineering program to create a practical, real world solution to an engineering challenge. The senior design competition helps focus the senior students in increasing the quality and potential for commercial application for their design projects. Judges from local industry evaluate the projects on …
The Importance Of Athletic Trainers At The High School Level And Barriers To Hire, Nathan Southerington
The Importance Of Athletic Trainers At The High School Level And Barriers To Hire, Nathan Southerington
Honors Theses
The goal of the study is to unveil the significance of the athletic training profession at the high school level and identify any barriers that restrict high schools from employing athletic trainers (ATs). While ATs are a commodity in collegiate and professional sports, many high schools around the nation struggle to employ these health care professionals. Surveys were sent to both superintendents and athletic directors (ADs) throughout the state of Michigan, to establish common hindrances to hiring athletic trainers in secondary schools. The survey covered topics such as common barriers to hiring ATs, reasons they prefer to hire ATs, school …
A New Trend In Human Reproduction - Women In The Usa, Abby Rokke
A New Trend In Human Reproduction - Women In The Usa, Abby Rokke
Essential Studies UNDergraduate Showcase
The control a woman is allowed to have over her own reproductive system has been a recent popular topic of debate. Since the 1950's, women have made up over half of the total United States population. With women making up the majority of the country's citizens, it would be quite the contradiction for them to not have the right to make decisions about their own bodies. Over the last two decades many contraceptive and medical advances have assisted in a woman's ability to make her own choice. An interesting trend in childbearing has occurred from this new wave of technologies. …
Effects Of Foam Rolling For Delayed-Onset Muscle Soreness On Military Performance And Perceived Recovery, Brianna L. Sayer
Effects Of Foam Rolling For Delayed-Onset Muscle Soreness On Military Performance And Perceived Recovery, Brianna L. Sayer
Student Theses and Dissertations
PURPOSE: To evaluate the effects of foam rolling (FR) and passive recovery (PR) on symptoms of delayed-onset muscle soreness (DOMS) and military-based performance. METHODS: Nine participants completed DOMS-inducing exercise protocol (EP), followed by FR or PR. Military-based tasks (MBTs) were performed 24 hours later. Rating of perceived exertion (RPE), and rating of muscle pain (RMP) were measured. A repeated measure analysis of variance and effect sizes were used to compare MBTs results. Friedman test compared perceptual variables across baseline, FR, and PR. Wilcoxon matched-pairs signed-ranks test evaluated EP RPE and post-EP and post-recovery RMP between FR and PR. RESULTS: Although …
Concurrent Atlantoaxial Septic Arthritis And Septic Thrombosis Of The Ophthalmic Vein Due To Staphylococcus Aureus: A Case Report And Review Of The Literature, Robin L.P. Jump
Faculty Scholarship
Atlantoaxial joint septic arthritis and superior ophthalmic vein thrombosis are uncommon manifestations of Staphylococcus aureus infection. A 68-year-old man presented with acute-onset neck pain and diplopia. Imaging studies revealed atlantoaxial septic arthritis and right superior ophthalmic vein thrombosis. Blood cultures grew methicillin-susceptible S. aureus. We review the literature describing these 2 uncommon manifestations of a common pathogen.
