Geochemical Evolution Of The Iron Ore Group -- A Mid-Archean Greenstone Belt Of The Eastern Indian Craton, Jordan Kent Wright

Earth & Environmental Sciences Theses - Archive

The Iron Ore Group (IOG) greenstone belt is located along the Eastern Indian Shield. It preserves a mid-Archean segment of Earth’s history, which consists of conformable sequences of lower basaltic-andesitic lava at the base (~2 km), followed successively upwards by lower-shales (2.3 km) gradating into a tuffacious horizon (30 m at the top), an extensive Algoma-type banded-iron formation (0.7 km), upper basaltic-andesitic lava and upper-shales (~3 km). This succession provides ideal investigative conditions considering each stratigraphic unit as only been lightly-metamorphosed to the low greenschist facies, lacks penetrative deformation, preserves pristine depositional characteristics and great antiquity (~3.4 Ga). The concentrations …

A Cmos Switched Capacitor Filter Based Potentiometric Readout Circuit For Chemfet Sensor, Revathy Perumalsamy Dec 2018

A Cmos Switched Capacitor Filter Based Potentiometric Readout Circuit For Chemfet Sensor, Revathy Perumalsamy

Electrical Engineering Theses - Archive

There are wide ranges of potentiometric sensors available for chemical sensing. The latest implementation of these sensors is CHEM resistors. In real time environment for an in-vivo application area, noise and power are the important factors. Though the selectivity of CHEM resistors improved with recent technological developments analog front end measurement circuits are always the limiting factor. Without compromising the performance parameters like gain and op-swing it is a challenge to improve the noise and power. Noise and power are the two factors which always require improvement. Also, there is trade-off between noise and power which needs to be balanced. …

Hb 121 - Property, Wills, Trusts, And Estates, Colt Burnett, Ben Dell'orto

Georgia State University Law Review

The Act amends several aspects of trust law, including updating the application of the Uniform Statutory Rule Against Perpetuities in Georgia by extending the time within which a nonvested property interest or power of appointment must vest from 90 to 360 years. The Act also allows for modifications of a trust without judicial approval in some cases. Many passages are simplified, including the calculation of compensation for a trustee, which can now be modified through different procedures. Finally, the Act codifies the role of trust directors.

Relationships Between Microbial Indicators And Pathogens In Recreational Water Settings, Asja Korajkic, Brian R. Mcminn, Valerie J. Harwood Dec 2018

Relationships Between Microbial Indicators And Pathogens In Recreational Water Settings, Asja Korajkic, Brian R. Mcminn, Valerie J. Harwood

Integrative Biology Faculty and Staff Publications

Fecal pollution of recreational waters can cause scenic blight and pose a threat to public health, resulting in beach advisories and closures. Fecal indicator bacteria (total and fecal coliforms, Escherichia coli, and enterococci), and alternative indicators of fecal pollution (Clostridium perfringens and bacteriophages) are routinely used in the assessment of sanitary quality of recreational waters. However, fecal indicator bacteria (FIB), and alternative indicators are found in the gastrointestinal tract of humans, and many other animals and therefore are considered general indicators of fecal pollution. As such, there is room for improvement in terms of their use for informing risk assessment …

Physics Faculty Publications

The transverse structure of light is recognized as a resource that can be used to encode information onto photons and has been shown to be useful to enhance communication capacity as well as resolve point sources in superresolution imaging. The Laguerre–Gaussian (LG) modes form a complete and orthonormal basis set and are described by a radial index p and an orbital angular momentum (OAM) index ℓ. Earlier works have shown how to build a sorter for the radial index p or/and the OAM index ℓ of LG modes, but a scalable and dedicated LG mode sorter which simultaneous determinate …

The Perils Of Philanthrocapitalism, Eric Franklin Amarante Dec 2018

The Perils Of Philanthrocapitalism, Eric Franklin Amarante

Maryland Law Review

For over a century, philosophers, politicians, and sociologists have bemoaned philanthropy’s inherent antidemocratic, paternalistic, and amateuristic aspects. The antidemocratic nature of philanthropy is self-evident: When a wealthy person determines the best way to address a societal problem without the input of either society at large or the intended beneficiaries of the philanthropy, the result is a deficit of democracy. Philanthropy’s amateurism stems from the illogical belief that wealthy individuals ought to address some of the world’s most complex and intransigent problems simply because they successfully amassed a fortune in the private sector. The paternalism critique focuses on the assumption that …

The Error Theory Of Contract, Matthew A. Seligman Dec 2018

The Error Theory Of Contract, Matthew A. Seligman

Maryland Law Review

Many people have false beliefs about contract doctrine. That pervasive phenomenon has profound practical, theoretical, and normative implications that neither courts nor scholars have recognized. This Article will make three contributions to fill that gap. First, it will establish just how widespread the phenomenon is among non-lawyers. After synthesizing the existing evidence of false beliefs about contract law, it will contribute a new empirical study showing that between one-third and one-half of people falsely believe specific performance rather than damages is the remedy for breach.

The Article will then argue that people’s false beliefs about contract doctrine pose a fundamental …

Shame, Embarrassment, And The Subjectivity Requirement, Erick Ramirez Dec 2018

Shame, Embarrassment, And The Subjectivity Requirement, Erick Ramirez

Philosophy

Reactive theories of responsibility see moral accountability as grounded on the capacity for feeling reactive-attitudes. I respond to a recent argument gaining ground in this tradition that excludes psychopaths from accountability. The argument relies on what Paul Russell has called the 'subjectivity requirement'. On this view, the capacity to feel and direct reactive-attitudes at oneself is a necessary condition for responsibility. I argue that even if moral attitudes like guilt are impossible for psychopaths to deploy, that psychopaths, especially the "successful" and "secondary" subtypes of psychopathy, can satisfy the subjectivity requirement with regard to shame. I appeal to evidence that …

Addressing Cultural Diversity In Early Childhood Classes: What Are Teachers Competencies?, Prezy Emanuel Ramadhani Dec 2018

Addressing Cultural Diversity In Early Childhood Classes: What Are Teachers Competencies?, Prezy Emanuel Ramadhani

Master of Education

Addressing cultural diversity (CD) has become an issue of discussion worldwide particularly in early childhood care and education institutions, on how practitioners address the learning needs of children from a diverse cultural background (DCB) in their classrooms. In Tanzania particularly in Korogwe town, like another different part of the world, early childhood classes are populated with children from the DCB. Yet, little is on documents on how practitioners address the LNC from the DCB. The purpose of this study was to investigate the competences of early childhood practitioners (ECPs) in addressing the LNC from the DCB. The study adopted a …

Investigating The Influence Of Non-Technical Words To The Teaching And Learning Of Science: A Case Study Of A Primary School In Taveta Sub-County, Buya Yorrum Komora

Master of Education

Teaching of science has been found to be most challenging. These challenges are believed to be due to lack of apparatus used for teaching, class size, and inadequate curriculum materials but also the language used to teach science. During the process of teaching, learners face the problem of not understanding the meaning of non-technical words and how they create regular explanation of the knowledge itself. Non-technical words refer to words that have one or multiple meanings in our daily language but carry exact and specific meaning, and different when used in scientific context. Studies have shown that learners only experience …

An Investigation Of Primary Children’S Misconceptions On Floating And Sinking Concepts: A Survey In One Government Primary School In Soroti Municipality, Eastern Uganda, Cathy Martha Akello

Master of Education

Floating and sinking concepts are part of the science curriculum in Uganda, an important topic applicable in everyday life. Globally teaching and learning of floating and sinking concepts pose a challenge to both teachers and learners in the primary schools. This has led to a number of common misconceptions resulting to persistent errors in learners’ performance. These misconceptions tend to be difficult to remediate if not handled in children’s early years of education. A sample of one hundred learners of grade 5 aged 10-15 years participated in the study. Questionnaires were used to elicit learner’s misconceptions about the floating and …

Towards Scalable Characterization Of Noisy, Intermediate-Scale Quantum Information Processors, Travis Luke Scholten Dec 2018

Towards Scalable Characterization Of Noisy, Intermediate-Scale Quantum Information Processors, Travis Luke Scholten

Physics & Astronomy ETDs

In recent years, quantum information processors (QIPs) have grown from one or two qubits to tens of qubits. As a result, characterizing QIPs – measuring how well they work, and how they fail – has become much more challenging. The obstacles to characterizing today’s QIPs will grow even more difficult as QIPs grow from tens of qubits to hundreds, and enter what has been called the “noisy, intermediate-scale quantum” (NISQ) era. This thesis develops methods based on advanced statistics and machine learning algorithms to address the difficulties of “quantum character- ization, validation, and verification” (QCVV) of NISQ processors. In the …
