Bigger Than My Dad’S Size Twelve Feet, Alexa Bills
Bigger Than My Dad’S Size Twelve Feet, Alexa Bills
USU Student Folklore Fieldwork
Many moons ago, around the year 1977, an incredible event in the eyes of a young girl occurred. I hiked to the top of Big “J” mountain with my 2 older brothers. It was thrilling to reach the “J” which stands for Juab County in Central Utah. This was no small feat for a five year old. Then we discovered giant tracks that were even bigger than my Dad’s size 12 feet. They didn’t look like human footprints with shoes, but like a giant foot. My brothers told me that maybe they were Bigfoot’s so we better get off the …

Comparing Balance Performance On Force Platform Measures In Individuals With Parkinson's Disease And Healthy Adults, Cathy C. Harro, Amanda Kelch, Cora Hargis, Abigail Dewitt
Open Access Publishing Support Funded Articles
Introduction. Postural instability is a known contributing factor to balance dysfunction and increased fall risk in those with Parkinson’s disease (PD). Computerized posturography employing a force platform system provides objective, quantitative as- sessments of postural control impairments. This study examines balance performance as measured by force platform (FP) tests in persons with PD compared to age-matched healthy adults. Secondarily, we examine if these FP measures provide diagnostic and clinically meaningful information about the underlying balance impairments in the PD population.
Methods. Participants—42 individuals with PD (Hoehn and Yahr stage 2.33 0.77) and 55 age-matched healthy adults—were assessed on …

Unspoken Barriers: An Autoethnographic Study Of Frustration, Resistance And Resilience, Rose M. Wake
The Qualitative Report
Immigration, cultural capital, cultural hybridity are the contributing players within my autoethnographic research as a second-generation daughter of southern Italian migrants from the post war era. This autobiography of my lived experience identifies contributing influences of arrested development within my educational and life trajectory and explores theoretical frameworks as key comparative indicators for my thwarted stages of psychosocial development. My identity and role as a female is further explored within the construct of a determined and culturally hybrid adolescence in an effort to answer research questions of identity and role confusion. My narratives situate my life as a daughter, student, …

The State of Wisconsin’s Department of Natural Resources is responsible for operating one of the largest state park systems in the United States. Potawatomi State Park, located on the Door County peninsula, consists of about 1,200 acres of flat to gently rolling upland terrain bordered by steep slopes and rugged limestone cliffs along Lake Michigan’s shoreline. A 75-ft observation tower sits atop a 150-ft bluff overlooking Lake Michigan. The USDA Forest Service, Forest Products Laboratory, was asked to conduct an assessment of the main support timbers of the tower. This report summarizes the results obtained from the inspection and assessment. …
Public And Private Spending On Justice In Canada, Lisa Moore, Mitchell Perlmutter, Trevor C. W. Farrow
Public And Private Spending On Justice In Canada, Lisa Moore, Mitchell Perlmutter, Trevor C. W. Farrow
Canadian Forum on Civil Justice
As a ubiquitous aspect of everyday life, it should come as little surprise that legal problems have a tremendous cumulative cost on society. Assessing the cost of civil, family and criminal justice problems in Canada is a complex and multifaceted undertaking, owing in part to the number of agencies involved in the administration of justice, the various types of justice system expenses, and the intangible and ‘knock on’ costs that often result from experiencing legal problems. Further, costs can be examined in monetary, temporal, personal, physical health, mental health and other terms. The monetary costs are of course the most …
How To Be A Realist About Natural Kinds, P.D. Magnus
How To Be A Realist About Natural Kinds, P.D. Magnus
Philosophy Faculty Scholarship
Although some authors hold that natural kinds are necessarily relative to disciplinary domains, many authors presume that natural kinds must be absolute, categorical features of the reality— often assuming that without even mentioning the alternative. Recognizing both possibilities, one may ask whether the difference especially matters. I argue that it does. Looking at recent arguments about natural kind realism, I argue that we can best make sense of the realism question by thinking of natural kindness as a relation that holds between a category and a domain.

Cathay, Ezra Pound
Cathay, Ezra Pound
Poetry
Ezra Pound’s Cathay (1915) is a masterpiece of modernism, but also of world literature. The muscular precision of images that mark Pound’s translations helped established a modern style for American literature, at the same time creating a thirst for classical Chinese poetry in English. Yet Pound wrote it without knowing any Chinese, relying instead on word-for-word “cribs” left by the Orientalist Ernest Fenollosa, whose notebooks reveal a remarkable story of sustained cultural exchange.
This fully annotated critical edition focuses on Pound’s astonishing translations without forgetting that the original Chinese and Old English poems are masterpieces in their own right. By …

The Development And Integration Of Community Engagement In Graduate Education, Patricia Noske
The Development And Integration Of Community Engagement In Graduate Education, Patricia Noske
Theses & Dissertations
This study, framed by Kolb’s experiential learning theory, explored the intentions, perceptions, and understanding of graduate faculty and staff on community engagement. Questions have arisen as to whether students with advanced degrees are entering the job market with sought-after skills. In response, universities have continued to seek program improvements to enhance quality learning experiences to better prepare them for what follows after graduation. Within higher education, community engagement programs have been identified as an approach to respond to challenges as they have been shown to add substance, meaning, and value to students’ learning.
An epistemological case study was conducted to …

Subacute Physical Rehabilitation For A Young Adult With A Hypoxic Brain Injury Resulting In Severe Myoclonic Movements And Ataxia: A Case Report, Chelsea Vandriel
Subacute Physical Rehabilitation For A Young Adult With A Hypoxic Brain Injury Resulting In Severe Myoclonic Movements And Ataxia: A Case Report, Chelsea Vandriel
Case Report Papers
Background and Purpose: An acquired brain injury is an injury to the brain that is not hereditary, congenital, degenerative in nature or induced by birth. Hypoxic/anoxic ischemic brain injuries (HIBI) result from global lack of oxygen to the brain from events such as drowning, choking, and cardiac or respiratory arrest. Limited research has been done regarding physical therapy (PT) interventions to improve functional mobility, gait, and tolerance to activity in an inpatient rehabilitation facility (IRF) with this patient population. Thus, the purpose of this case report is to provide PT interventions that were utilized in an IRF setting for a …
