Method And Apparatus For 3d Printer Leveling On Irregular Floors, Hp Inc
Method And Apparatus For 3d Printer Leveling On Irregular Floors, Hp Inc
Defensive Publications Series
This disclosure relates to the field of leveling of 3D printing machines, where structures need to be
leveled over irregular floors. If some cases, printer’s structure will not provide sufficient structural
stiffness to constrain printer’s deformations within an admissible range, thus a leveling process that
corrects this eventual lack of flatness will be required. Commonly used leveling procedures may be
based either on geometrical condition measurements of specific printer’s structural components or
spatial position determination of printer’s reference points, this last one typically using laser tracker
instrumentation. These processes are typically either tedious or require the use of expensive
equipment.

Looking Past The Images: Art And Film As Propaganda Apparatuses, Alexander Schumm
Looking Past The Images: Art And Film As Propaganda Apparatuses, Alexander Schumm
Theses
This paper aims to show that art and film can operate as propaganda in subtle and unintentional ways. Jacques Ellul called such propaganda “sociological propaganda.” Recent work in philosophy has relied on the notion of intention in defining how propaganda works to affect the beliefs and attitudes of its recipients. This paper argues that intention is not a necessary condition for messages to be propagandistic and works to decouple propaganda from intention. Because our current models rely on intention in defining propaganda, recent work in philosophy cannot account for sociological propaganda. Ellul’s gestures toward defining propaganda explicitly feature intention as …

Help! An Insight Into Long Distance Romantic Relationship Advice Sought Online, Brendan John Murphy
Help! An Insight Into Long Distance Romantic Relationship Advice Sought Online, Brendan John Murphy
Master of Arts in Media and Communication Plan II Graduate Projects
The purpose of this study was to examine the long-distance romantic relationship (LDRR) advice sought online and see how it relates to previous literature. Reddit posts from the r/LongDistance subreddit were narrowed using an advanced search to find the most popular (upvoted) advice from users. Qualitative, contextual analysis research was used to search for reoccurring themes throughout the advice sought. Results revealed that feelings of uncertainty and anxiety were very common within LDRR, and advice was sought about how to maintain relationships whilst living apart.

Although concrete behavior—such as avoidance, discrimination, rejection—is foundational to most definitions of stigma, knowledge of psychiatric stigma has been constructed mostly on the basis of measurement of self-reported attitudes, beliefs, and feelings. To help fill this gap, the current study examined avoidance behavior in psychiatric stigma. That is, we predicted that people would seek more physical distance from a man with a psychiatric problem than a man with a medical problem. One hundred fourteen undergraduates expected to meet a man with either Type II diabetes or schizophrenia. After completing several measures of self-reported stigma, participants eventually moved to an adjacent …

Non-Linear Glacier Response To Calving Events, Jakobshavn Isbræ, Greenland, Ryan Cassoto, Mark Fahnestock, Jason M. Amundson, Martin Truffer, Margaret S. Boettcher, Santiago De La Pena, Ian Howat
Faculty, Staff, and Students
Jakobshavn Isbræ, a tidewater glacier that produces some of Greenland’s largest icebergs and highest speeds, reached record-high flow rates in 2012 (Joughin and others, 2014). We use terrestrial radar interferometric observations from August 2012 to characterize the events that led to record-high flow. We find that the highest speeds occurred in response to a small calving retreat, while several larger calving events produced negligible changes in glacier speed. This non-linear response to calving events suggests the terminus was close to flotation and therefore highly sensitive to terminus position. Our observations indicate that a glacier’s response to calving is a consequence …

Divisibility Properties Of Coefficients Of Modular Functions Of Genus Zero Levels, Merrill Warnick
Divisibility Properties Of Coefficients Of Modular Functions Of Genus Zero Levels, Merrill Warnick
Undergraduate Honors Theses
We prove divisibility results for the Fourier coefficients of canonical basis elements for the spaces of weakly holomorphic modular forms of weight 0 and levels 6, 10, 12, 18 with poles only at the cusp at infinity. In addition, we show that these Fourier coefficients satisfy Zagier duality in all weights, and give a general formula for the generating functions of such canonical bases for all genus zero levels. These results originally appeared in a paper of the same title that was accepted by the journal Integers, and was authored by the present author, with Paul Jenkins and Vicki
Early 20th Century Perceptions Of Civil Law-Common Law Difference: F.L. Joannini’S Spanish-English Civil Code Translations In Context, Seth S. Brostoff
Early 20th Century Perceptions Of Civil Law-Common Law Difference: F.L. Joannini’S Spanish-English Civil Code Translations In Context, Seth S. Brostoff
Journal of Civil Law Studies
The proper method for translating Spanish and Portuguese civil law concepts into English was a topic of debate among civil law scholars and comparatists at the turn of the last century. This article examines the translation approaches of three Americans (Clifford Walton, F.L. Joannini, and Joseph Wheless) who independently translated the Spanish, Colombian, Argentine, and Brazilian Civil Codes during the period 1899-1920. Specifically, Walton’s (1899) Spanish Civil Code translation’s use of common law English is con-trasted with Joannini’s Colombian (1905) and Argentine (1917) Civil Codes translations’ preference for a “civilian” legal lexicon, including substantial borrowing from the special civil law …

Arms And The Man: Strategic Trade Control Challenges Of 3d Printing, Arjun Banerjee
International Journal of Nuclear Security
3D printing is on the verge of confronting Customs and other security agencies with a whole new set of mind-boggling problems. With the tremendous reach of the Internet worldwide, virtual blueprints to weapon parts, components and accessories of drones, narcotic drugs and psychoactive substances, all strategic trade items, as well as other restricted items such as pornographic material, can be proliferated and printed out swiftly by any individual or organization with access to a 3D printer. Intellectual Property Rights are also endangered by these machines. Technology is forever outpacing fast antiquating legal institutions, and security systems, which require revamping to …

The Organization Of American States’ Model Law On Simplified Corporations, Francisco Reyes Villamizar
The Organization Of American States’ Model Law On Simplified Corporations, Francisco Reyes Villamizar
Journal of Civil Law Studies
Colombian Law 1258 of 2008 introduced the Simplified Corpo-ration (Sociedad por Acciones Simplificada or SAS). This type of business entity included modern corporate law features such as sim-plified incorporation proceedings, full-fledged limited liability for its shareholders, and broad freedom of contract for the definition of housekeeping and governance rules. It also reduced old-fashioned prohibitions pertaining to shareholders and managers activities and reduced transaction costs. The SAS’s “opt-in” approach also has allowed for private parties to draft the most suitable agreements. The enabling provisions of Law 1258 have been the starting point for the preparation of at least three Model Law …
