Differential Effects Of Internal And External Constraints On Sustainability Intentions: A Hierarchical Regression Analysis Of Running Event Participants By Market Segment, Galen Trail, Brian P. Mccullough
Journal of Management for Global Sustainability
There are immediate calls to action across all business sectors to address the adverse effects of climate change. The sport industry is not immune to these calls—practitioners have engaged participants to further the environmental initiatives of their events through creative messaging campaigns with mixed success. We examine the differential effects of internal and external constraints on sustainability intentions by market segment of a running event’s participants. This furthers our understanding of how to engage sport participants in sustainable behaviors at a sport event and improves the sustainable behavior outcomes of messaging campaigns. Our results support the principles of constraint theory …

Based on WHO data, Indonesia has the third largest leprosy burden in the world, afterIndia and Brazil. Although leprosy was declared to be eliminated in severalprovinces, there are still several leprosy settlements spread in Indonesia. Oneof these settlements is Neglasari village in Tangerang City, West Java, whereleprosy patients have been living since 1981. There is a scarcity ofinformation regarding the features of leprosy in Indonesia, especially aboutthe description of the patients’ posttreatment condition in terms of bothclinical sequelae and health services provided. A collaboration betweenmultiple departments of Ophthalmology, Dermatovenereology, and MedicalRehabilitation from the Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital/Universitas Indonesia,Jakarta, was established in …

The studyconsisted of three stages, including formative research, book development, andevaluation. Our formative research triangulated information on preferences andkey messages on food, nutrition, parenting, and child characteristics throughfocus group discussions …
Healing From Heterosexism Through Expressive Writing, Kathleen M. Collins
Healing From Heterosexism Through Expressive Writing, Kathleen M. Collins
Graduate Masters Theses
Simply by existing within our society, LGBTQ people encounter widespread exposure to heterosexist attitudes, behaviors, and policies on a daily basis that ignore, invalidate, or outright discriminate against them. This marginalization contributes to myriad psychological consequences such as depression, suicidality, anxiety, and substance abuse. Despite the fact that LGBTQ people experience mental health issues and some subsequently seek treatment, few interventions exist that specifically address LGBTQ minority stressors; those that do exist tend to treat mental health consequences of societal heterosexism, rather than offering ways to heal from heterosexist experiences directly. In the current study, I explored the ability of …

Surveying Identities In Context: Race, Gender & Sexual Orientation ‘At Work’, Justine A. Bulgar-Medina
Graduate Doctoral Dissertations
Researchers, practitioners and common practice have imputed a great deal of power onto categories of social identity (e.g. race, sexual orientation, gender, religion). It common practice to collect demographic and identifying information on the categories to which we belong in settings ranging from the Census to the online shopping profile. Moreover, we have come to expect that this information will be used to make meaningful decisions on government program funding, targeted marketing, college recruitment and so much more. We also know that minority identities have a long history of negatively impacting individuals in employment, housing and other realms of daily …

The Charge Of Deserting Their Sphere: The Boston Female Anti-Slavery Society And Women’S Place In The Abolitionist Movement, Megan Irene Brady
Graduate Masters Theses
Responding to the all-male American Anti-Slavery Society and inspired by the expansion of women’s benevolent organizations, the Boston Female Anti-Slavery Society (BFAS) was founded in 1833. At the outset, the members defined themselves as pious women dedicated to immediate emancipation, while making no overtures to challenging their place in society. BFAS grew quickly in influence and membership, and helped organize the first national women’s anti-slavery convention in 1837. The convention brought together female abolitionists from all over the United States, some of whom espoused more radical views on women’s rights. This thesis examines how interactions at the national conventions—a network …

Diagnostic Procedures In Pediatric Dermatology, Arini Astasari Widodo, Githa Rahmayunita, Triana Agustin, Rinadewi Astriningrum
Journal of General - Procedural Dermatology and Venereology Indonesia
Diagnostic procedures in pediatric dermatology are different and significantly more challenging than those in adult patients, especially on how to approach the patients. We need to acknowledge that pediatric patients have unique anatomical, physiological, and psychological aspects. Compared to adults, children have smaller procedure area, are less cooperative, and more difficult to understand. For these reasons, we should perform diagnostic procedures on children cautiously. Having extensive knowledge in this field can facilitate us to carry out an ethical, efficient, targeted procedure with less risk. This article reviewed the most appropriate, most comfortable, and least invasive diagnostic procedures for children. Some …

Moving From Management To Termination: A Case Study Of Prolonged Occupation, David Hughes
Brooklyn Journal of International Law
In 2017, the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories reached a half-century in duration. This reignited a conversation amongst legal scholars. In articles and books, lawyers questioned the efficacy of occupation law. They asked whether it had become an anachronism. Across Israel and the Palestinian territories, those that directly invoke the law of occupation sought a more effective means of adapting the law to meet the exigencies of a fifty-year-old occupation. The accompanying debates recalled questions concerning the legal treatment of prolonged occupation. This article seeks to fundamentally alter the recurring discourse. Built around a detailed case study of Israel’s …

Journal of Dentistry Indonesia
Objective: We describe how to assess the degree of canal curvature and manage a separated instrument using an ultrasonic device. Case Report: A 24-year-old female was referred by a general dentist for an accidentally separated Protaper F2 instrument. The mesiobuccal canal was enlarged and the separated instrument could be visualized via the dental operating microscope. Preoperative radiography revealed a separated endodontic instrument at the middle to apical third of the mesiobuccal canal. Mesiobuccal canal curvature measured 66°. After rubber dam isolation, a specific ultrasonic tip and the dental operating microscope were used to gain access around the separated instrument until …

Journal of Dentistry Indonesia
Recurrent herpes labialis (RHL) is a common manifestation of herpes simplex virus (HSV) reactivation in immunocompetent individuals, whereas angular cheilitis is an inflammatory lesion occurring on one or both lip commissures and is induced by local and/or systemic conditions. We describe a case of RHL eruption on the corner of the mouth, easily mistaken as angular cheilitis. Case Report: A 21-year-old male presented to our dental hospital with a 3 day history of a painful, unilateral lesion on the left corner of his mouth. The lesion featured an erythematous base with a yellowish crust that extended outward. We diagnosed the …

Issues in Religion and Psychotherapy
People navigate life more successfully and find more joy when they are able to regulate emotion in healthy ways. Teaching and helping clients regulate emotion in healthy ways is an important part of many psychotherapy approaches. In this paper, we focus on the emotion of anger from a theistic therapy perspective, arguing that understanding the nature of God’s anger and human anger in the scriptures can inform theistic therapy practice. To establish this understanding, we analyzed cases of the word anger in the scriptures through content analysis (e.g., quantitative) and hermeneutic analysis (e.g., qualitative). Findings revealed that, while God was …
Between Identity And Truth: A Christ-Centered Perspective On Emotion, Mauro Properzi
Between Identity And Truth: A Christ-Centered Perspective On Emotion, Mauro Properzi
Issues in Religion and Psychotherapy
Emotions are receiving a lot of attention in both academic and popular circles. In fact, our culture is increasingly characterized by emotionality in thought, expression, and personal interaction, with some positive but also many negative consequences. How should Christians respond to these developments in the secular culture? A Christ-centered approach to the emotions is the general theological foundation on which we need to ground our reflections and decisions about their nature and significance. Specifi- cally, by deepening our understanding of Jesus’s teachings on His identity, telos, life-giving reality, and sanctifying power, as aptly described in John 14:6, we may experience …
Optimal Deterrence And The Preference Gap, Brook Gotberg
Optimal Deterrence And The Preference Gap, Brook Gotberg
BYU Law Review
It is generally understood that the way to discourage particular behavior in individuals is to punish that behavior, on the theory that rational individuals seek to avoid punishment. Laws aimed at deterring behavior operate on the assumption that increasing the likelihood of punishment, the severity of punishment, or both, will decrease the behavior. The success of these laws is evaluated by how much the targeted behavior decreases. The law of preferential transfers—which punishes creditors who have been paid prior to a bankruptcy filing at the expense of other, unpaid creditors—has been defended on the grounds that it deters a race …
Does Enforcement Reduce Voluntary Tax Compliance?, Leandra Lederman
Does Enforcement Reduce Voluntary Tax Compliance?, Leandra Lederman
BYU Law Review
Governments generally use enforcement methods, such as audits and the imposition of penalties, to deter noncompliance with tax laws. Although this approach is consistent with most economic modeling of tax compliance, some scholars caution that enforcement may backfire, “crowding out” taxpayers’ intrinsic motivations to pay taxes to such an extent that they reduce their tax payments. This Article analyzes the existing evidence to determine if this occurs. In fact, field studies suggest that enforcement tools, such as audits, are very effective deterrents. A few recent studies have found that audits have a negative effect on the subsequent tax payments of …
