Dropped Make-Out An Ethan Dixon Story, Cy Robinson
USU Student Folklore Fieldwork
I wasn’t quick on getting my voice recorder, so I missed a little bit of the story, but basically Ethan prefaced the story with how he had kissed someone on June 30, all I had missed was the statement of kissing.
E: Every June 30th since I was like 12 (others around state their admiration) 12 or 13 cause its my buddies birthday and we just brought girls over every time. but um I brought this girl over and then she drove me home it was like one in the morning and this was before my mom was like …
Determining Impact Of Appreciative Inquiry: A Case Study, Kimberly Davis
Determining Impact Of Appreciative Inquiry: A Case Study, Kimberly Davis
CUP Ed.D. Dissertations
This qualitative study was an exploratory, single-case study from the perspectives of Appreciative Inquiry [AI] practitioners that explored how they determined the impact of an Inquiry. Through AI worldwide, the common call to action has been for empirical, critical analysis of the theory and practices of AI (Bushe, 1998; Bushe & Marshak, 2011, 2014, 2015; Clarke, n.d.; Conklin, 2009; Grant & Humphries, 2006; Hart, Conklin, & Allen, 2008; Kessler, 2013; Tartell & Vogel, 2017; Willoughby & Tosey, 2007). Bushe and Marshak (2013) stated a lack of unifying theory of change being offered and “a rather large gulf between academics who …

Trunking Gone Wrong: An Ethan Dixon Story, Cy Robinson
Trunking Gone Wrong: An Ethan Dixon Story, Cy Robinson
USU Student Folklore Fieldwork
Do you guys know what trunking is? (interjection from a roommate: Its so funny.) It's awful. You get a girl you lead her on and as you are leaning in for the kiss you have your boys in the back jump up and scare you which is like so mean[shakes head disapprovingly]. So just like before Easton was leaving on his mission he was like this is the last thing I want to do. okay, I’m calling up Bailey[indicating himself], (Nathan, Didn’t Jackson have the idea?) yeah so he had the secret idea. So I called up Bailey so I …

United States Department of Agriculture-Agricultural Research Service / University of Nebraska-Lincoln: Faculty Publications
Ostertagia ostertagi is a gastrointestinal parasitic nematode that affects cattle and leads to a loss of production. In this study, we present the first large-scale genomic survey of O. ostertagi by the analysis of expressed transcripts from three stages of the parasite: third- stage larvae, fourth-stage larvae and adult worms. Using an in silico approach, 2284 genes were identified from over 7000 expressed sequence tags and abundant transcripts were analyzed and characterized by their functional profile. Of the 2284 genes, 66% had similarity to other known or predicted genes while the rest were novel and potentially represent genes specific to …
How To Be A Realist About Natural Kinds, P.D. Magnus
How To Be A Realist About Natural Kinds, P.D. Magnus
Philosophy Faculty Scholarship
Although some authors hold that natural kinds are necessarily relative to disciplinary domains, many authors presume that natural kinds must be absolute, categorical features of the reality— often assuming that without even mentioning the alternative. Recognizing both possibilities, one may ask whether the difference especially matters. I argue that it does. Looking at recent arguments about natural kind realism, I argue that we can best make sense of the realism question by thinking of natural kindness as a relation that holds between a category and a domain.

Proposal For Cal Poly Livestock Judging Team Golf Tournament, Megan E. Farley, Gracie Nino
Proposal For Cal Poly Livestock Judging Team Golf Tournament, Megan E. Farley, Gracie Nino
Agricultural Education and Communication
Cal Poly San Luis Obispo’s Livestock Judging Team was founded in 1948. Since then, there had consistently been a team competing for Cal Poly until 2002. Unfortunately, the judging team was cut due to budget constraints placed on the Animal Science Department. In 2017, Mr. Lee Rincker spearheaded the reinstatement of the team, recruiting five members to compete for the season.
Intercollegiate livestock judging is a co-curricular activity where competitors apply their knowledge of animal science to determine the quality of livestock animals for use in real-world situations. Research has determined that this program develops both life and professional skills. …
Radio Frequency Identification In The Beef Cattle Production Cycle At Livestock Services Inc., Edwin Mendoza
Radio Frequency Identification In The Beef Cattle Production Cycle At Livestock Services Inc., Edwin Mendoza
Agricultural Education and Communication
As time and technology has progressed, precision tracking has led many in the livestock industry to look into the next type of technology available to make their operations more efficient. This technology allows producers to individually track animals, with information ranging from weight, vaccinations used and pasture movements throughout the whole production cycle.
Applying Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology early in the production cycle can show that there is a higher accuracy in traceability that will decrease losses, and incorporate a better management style (Nääs, 2006).
Although this technology is in the initial testing stages in the multiple variations it …

The Use Of Seal Bombs In California Fisheries: Unknown Impacts Point To An Urgent Need For More Research, Aimee Kerr
The Use Of Seal Bombs In California Fisheries: Unknown Impacts Point To An Urgent Need For More Research, Aimee Kerr
Working Papers
Commercial fishing in California is a significant source of jobs and incomes. The industry can also produce detrimental environmental impacts, including injuries to threatened and endangered marine mammals and damage to marine ecosystems. There are a host of state and federal legal and regulatory mechanisms in place to protect marine mammals and their habitat. Some of these are more effective than others, and all exist within a continually evolving political and economic landscape. Seal bombs are incendiary devices used by some fishers to deter sea lions, seals, and other mammals from fish nets and fishing grounds. Measures to allow the …

Early Oral Feeding After Bowel Resection, Jennifer Strang
Theses & Dissertations
Research Focus: The primary purpose of this project was to determine if there was an association of factors with time to first solid meal in gastrointestinal (GI) surgery patients and the impact solid diet has on length of stay (LOS) in the hospital, GI symptoms, and incidence of post-operative ileus (POI). A secondary purpose was to observe and describe when an oral diet was started and the progression of diet after GI surgery.
Research Methods: This study was a cross-sectional, retrospective chart review of a convenience sample in a multi-centered hospital system conducted in 84 GI resection patients …

Community Engaged Research Reports
The success and development of a sustainable urban and regional food system hinges on the involvement of city planners and policy implementation by local government. Knowledge of where policies are supportive or unsupportive is critical for community activists, such as the Good Food Council of Lewiston Auburn (GFCLA), to direct limited resources toward effective changes. Conducting a food policy audit is one standardized approach for identifying gaps within a food system. In this report, we introduce a food policy audit tool that we adapted for use in Lewiston, Maine. We show results from conducting it in Lewiston and provide recommendations …

Clinical and Translational Science Institute
Chronic cerebrovascular hypoperfusion results in vascular dementia and increases predisposition to lacunar infarcts. However, there are no suitable animal models. In this study, we developed a novel model for chronic irreversible cerebral hypoperfusion in mice. Briefly, an ameroid constrictor was placed on the right carotid artery to gradually occlude the vessel, while a microcoil was placed on the left carotid artery to prevent compensation of the blood flow. This procedure resulted in a gradual hypoperfusion developing over a period of 34 days with no cerebral blood flow recovery. Histological analysis of the brain revealed neuronal and axonal degeneration as well …

Clinical and Translational Science Institute
Overhauser-enhanced Magnetic Resonance Imaging (OMRI) is a double resonance technique applied for oxygen imaging in aqueous samples and biological tissues. In this report, we present an improved OMRI approach of oxygen measurement using the single line “Finland” trityl spin probe. Compared to a traditional approach, we introduced an additional mechanism of leakage of spin polarization due to an interaction of a spin system with oxygen. The experimental comparison of the new approach with an oxygen-dependent leakage factor to a traditional approach performed in phantom samples in vitro, and mouse tumor model in vivo, shows improved accuracy of determination of oxygen …
