Antibody Dependent Enhancement Of Visceral Leishmaniasis, Alan K. Mcnolty
Antibody Dependent Enhancement Of Visceral Leishmaniasis, Alan K. Mcnolty
All Master's Theses
Leishmaniasis is a parasitic disease caused by protozoans of the genus Leishmania. This vector-born disease, transmitted by biting phlebotomine sandflies, typically manifests in one of three ways. The cutaneous form of the disease is characterized by localized lesions of the skin and is by far the most common manifestation. The visceral form of the disease is caused by parasitic infiltration of internal organs, particularly the spleen, liver, and bone marrow. The mucocutaneous form is caused by parasitic infection of the mucosa in the nose or mouth. While cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) is often self-healing, visceral leishmaniasis (VL) is fatal if …

Geomorphic Consequences Of Hydroelectricity And Transportation Development Near Celilo Falls, Lower Mid-Columbia River, Washington, Noah I. Oliver
All Master's Theses
Along the Columbia River, hundreds of miles of transportation infrastructure and over sixty hydroelectric dams have been constructed. This altered a rich cultural landscape with evidence of 10,000 years of continuous occupation. Researchers have attempted to understand the impacts of anthropogenic factors on the Columbia River, focusing on the riverine environment. However, the effect of transportation and hydroelectricity developments to eolian landforms on the floodplains and adjoining slopes have not been studied. Focusing on 2,800 acres near Celilo Falls, this study 1) establishes a baseline condition of eolian landforms from 1805 to 1900; 2) conducts an air photo increment analysis …
Role Of The Gut Microbiota As A Natural Adjuvant For Vaccine, Nicole Benn, Gerard F. Hoyne
Role Of The Gut Microbiota As A Natural Adjuvant For Vaccine, Nicole Benn, Gerard F. Hoyne
Health Sciences Papers and Journal Articles
Vaccines have provided the most beneficial contribution to public health. Generating antigen specific antibody responses and long lasting memory are crucial for the protective immunity offered by vaccination. Unfortunately, not all individuals respond in the same manner to vaccine formulations. The microbiota is established during postnatal development and remains relatively stable for long periods. Our understanding that the microbiota can have beneficial effects on human health has led immunologists to investigate how these organisms may shape the innate and adaptive immune responses of the host. In this review we examine the impact of the microbiota on the host immune responses …

Tinker Meets The Cyberbully: A Federal Circuit Conflict Round-Up And Proposed New Standard For Off-Campus Speech, Benjamin A. Holden
Fordham Intellectual Property, Media and Entertainment Law Journal
Tinker v. Des Moines Independent Community School District, the seminal school speech case interpreting the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, was decided by the U.S. Supreme Court long before mobile devices and social media upended accepted norms governing how students behave at school. The new reality has brought with it new line-drawing challenges for public schools faced with the warring requirements of school discipline on the one hand, and the First Amendment on the other. The threshold unanswered question this Article presents is whether Tinker should give jurisdiction to public schools over student speech which originates off campus. …

From War Dogs To Service Dogs: The Retirement And Adoption Of Military Working Dogs, Mackenzie Landa
From War Dogs To Service Dogs: The Retirement And Adoption Of Military Working Dogs, Mackenzie Landa
Animal Law Review
Military Working Dogs (MWD) are canine service members that provide safety, comfort, love, and sometimes their lives to their human teammates. Soldiers rely on these dogs for companionship, support, and protection. However, handler dog teams are often separated when human soldiers return home from deployment. The dogs, classified as property by the Department of Defense, remain overseas and work until they are no longer useful to the military. Once the military decides a MWD is unable to serve, the dog is often left abroad unless a handler or nonprofit organization can fund the dog’s transport back to the United States. …

Don’T Wait For Them To Come To You: Partnering With Student Support Services, Katie Bishop
Criss Library Faculty Publications
AT ANY INSTITUTION a positive culture is a critical element in overall organizational effectiveness. In my four years at the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) Libraries I have seen the transition of a dean, an associate dean, two directors, and multiple faculty and staff. Notwithstanding this turnover, the library staff members have successfully come together to create a new student- centered, inclusive, and engaged library culture. Many factors went into this change, and the leadership turnover actually served to strengthen our library organizational model into one that is more open and communicative. However, the culture changes in my unit, …

Stoa is an ancient Greek term applied to a type of long, narrow, free-standing building with a colonnaded façade. The stoa developed as an architectural form in Archaic Greece, and was most popular from the fifth through first centuries BCE. The stoa should be distinguished from the colonnaded avenues typical of late Hellenistic and Roman cities and from the Roman porticus.
