Reducing T Cell-Mediated Cardiac Injury With Cpg Oligodeoxynucleotides, Erik Alexander Barfod Levinsohn
Reducing T Cell-Mediated Cardiac Injury With Cpg Oligodeoxynucleotides, Erik Alexander Barfod Levinsohn
Yale Medicine Thesis Digital Library
Lymphocytic myocarditis is a common condition associated with both infectious diseases and immunological disorders, and is often associated with severe morbidity and mortality, but few effective treatments. In many cases, the pathophysiology involves a failure of central and/or peripheral immune tolerance leading to a cardiac-specific autoimmune T cell response. Previous studies indicate that the PD-1:PD-L1 axis plays an important role in limiting inflammation in the heart. CpG ODN are TLR9 agonists with known immunoregulatory capacity, in part through their potent induction of type I IFN, a known inducer of PD-L1. In this study, we used human tissue to determine the …

Herbicide resistance is ‘wicked’ in nature; therefore, results of the many educational efforts to encourage diversification of weed control practices in the United States have been mixed. It is clear that we do not sufficiently understand the totality of the grassroots obstacles, concerns, challenges, and specific solutions needed for varied crop production systems. Weed management issues and solutions vary with such variables as management styles, regions, cropping systems, and available or affordable technologies. Therefore, to help the weed science community better understand the needs and ideas of those directly dealing with herbicide resistance, seven half-day regional listening sessions were held …

The Role Of Endothelial Nitric Oxide Synthase (Enos) Coupling Status During Acute Hyperglycemia As Determined By Real-Time Measurements Of Blood Nitric Oxide And Hydrogen Peroxide In Rat, Matthew Bertolet
PCOM Biomedical Studies Student Scholarship
Acute hyperglycemia can impair vascular endothelial function in non-diabetic subjects in addition to diabetic patients. Decreased endothelial-derived nitric oxide (NO) bioavailability and increased concentrations of reactive oxygen species (ROS), such as superoxide (SO) and hydrogen peroxide (H202), are the major characteristics of vascular endothelial dysfunction. Normally, vascular endothelial function depends on NO production from coupled endothelial NO synthase (eNOS) in the presence of 5,6,7,8- tetrahydrobiopterin (BH4). By contrast, 7,8-dihydrobiopterin (BH2, Oxidized form of BH4) and/or lack ofL-arginine (coupled eNOS substrate) causes eNOS uncoupling to produce SO, which can be quickly converted to H202. The role of eNOS uncoupling in acute …
A Histopathologic Study Of The Controlling Role Of T Cells On Experimental Periodontitis In Rats, Satoshi Izumi, Yasunori Yoshinaga, Hirotaka Nakamura, Akiko Takamori, Yuzo Takamori, Takashi Ukai, Chiaki Shiraishi, Yoshitaka Hara
A Histopathologic Study Of The Controlling Role Of T Cells On Experimental Periodontitis In Rats, Satoshi Izumi, Yasunori Yoshinaga, Hirotaka Nakamura, Akiko Takamori, Yuzo Takamori, Takashi Ukai, Chiaki Shiraishi, Yoshitaka Hara
Journal of Dental Sciences
Abstract Background/purpose The onset and progression of periodontitis involve bacterial infection and the immune response. T cells function in the immune response and reportedly induce bone resorption in inflammatory bone loss. However, the exact role of T cells in periodontal destruction remains unclear. Using our experimental model of periodontitis, we aimed to investigate the influence of T cells on periodontal destruction. Materials and methods Male athymic nude (Nu) and euthymic wild-type (WT) rats were divided into the immunized (I-Nu and I-WT), non-immunized (nI-Nu and nI-WT). The immunized groups were immunized intraperitoneally with lipopolysaccharide (LPS). The non-immunized groups received phosphate-buffered saline …
Martha Fineman, More Transformative Than Ever, Michéle Alexandre
Martha Fineman, More Transformative Than Ever, Michéle Alexandre
Emory Law Journal
The breadth and depth of Fineman¿s work are such that it would be impossible to discuss all the layers of her ongoing legacy in this short Essay. For the sake of brevity, I confine my discussion to three points. Specifically, the foundations laid by Martha¿s work reverberate culturally and globally in three ways: (1) valuation of invisible labor, (2) normalization of uncomfortable conversations, and (3) universalization and destigmatization of vulnerability. While I focus solely on these key contributions, I could go on forever about the breath and scope of Fineman¿s influence and the impact of her mentorship. To trace Martha¿s …

Large pitcher has a trefoil mouth. The neck tapers slightly before expanding into the globular body. The base is a narrow ridge. The handle is round; it is attached at the rim and high on the shoulder. The pitcher was thrown on a wheel and the separately worked handles were applied later.
Jar, Unknown

Jar has a flared mouth and tubular rim, folded evenly inward. Below the broad neck, the globular body is decorated with seven pressed indentions, some more pronounced than others. Black grit and long bubbles are evident in the neck and rim. The base is concave with no palpable pontil mark.
Square Bottle, Unknown

Square-shouldered bottle tapers to a smaller 1.6 x 1.7 cm base. A short, round neck sits atop the sloping shoulders. The neck has a visible horizontal gap where the neck has been glued to the bottle. The pitting and color of the neck is dissimilar to that of the body. The vessel rests slightly unevenly on the base and stands askew.

Head Of A Young Man, Unknown
Farid Karam M.D. Lebanon Antiquities Collection
Head with neck and shoulder depicts a young man gazing forward, his head inclined toward his left shoulder. Hair is arranged in ringlets around his face, held by a filet. The hair behind the filet radiates in rows toward the crown. At the nape, the hair is rolled up in large curls over the filet. Part of the crown of the head is broken away. The face is smooth. The eyes seem vacant; they are defined by the eyelids and set high in the face. The nose and lips are small but well-defined. A garment is draped over the left …

The slender greenish-brown metal object tapers from the head to the sharp point. The head end has eight lobes which suggest a sharply involuted sphere, sometimes referred to as a poppy seed head. There is a forged hole 3.5 cm. below the head. A collar surrounds and reinforces the hole. Incised bands on the shaft extend to the hole and below it for 0.4 cm.
