This research saliently deconstructs the philosophical writing of a white, privileged male by five diverse academic peers by using a methodology of deconstruction to analyze the initial author's writing. Their reflects on his nascent perspectives address the stages of racism, mea culpa, the relationship between privilege, oppression, and classism, a feminist perspective, binary, and intersectionality. Further analysis connote for the need to deconstruct privilege in a literary context and to develop an autoethnography to fully delve into privilege beyond a superficial and neglectful narrative.

Effects Of Early Childhood Education On Reading Preparedness In Third Grade Of Elementary School, Kimberly A. Williams
Effects Of Early Childhood Education On Reading Preparedness In Third Grade Of Elementary School, Kimberly A. Williams
Dissertations
Reading has been found to not only build student motivation but to increase community involvement in education (Hudson & Williams, 2015). Children who grow into lifelong readers were less likely to be incarcerated, became more successful members of society, and created greater futures for themselves and their families (Obama, 2013). With exposure to early childhood education opportunities, children found a greater propensity to attain foundational reading skills; therefore, positive habits for education lead to thriving outcomes in the future (DeHaan & Leuven, 2016). This study analyzed variations in preschool programs in order to detect curricular, facility, and instructor distinctions (DeHaan …

All-Inclusive List of Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This study explored the influence of form-focused instruction (FFI) in teaching English copula and auxiliary (be) to English as a second language (ESL) learners. Following the noticing hypothesis, FFI, and the basic principles of curriculum and instruction theory, this study investigates if ESL learners make omission, misuse, or misjudgment errors while acquiring English as a second language. Also, the study examined whether ESL learners show significant improvement in their knowledge of English copula and auxiliary (be) after receiving FFI. Previous copula and auxiliary (be) research (Jishvithaa, Tabitha, & Kalajahi, 2013; Muftah & Eng, 2011; Unlu & Hatipoglu, 2012) has shown …

Assessing Teacher Attentiveness To Student Mathematical Thinking: Validity Claims And Evidence, Michele B. Carney, Laurie Cavey, Gwyneth Hughes
Assessing Teacher Attentiveness To Student Mathematical Thinking: Validity Claims And Evidence, Michele B. Carney, Laurie Cavey, Gwyneth Hughes
Curriculum, Instruction, and Foundational Studies Faculty Publications and Presentations
This article illustrates an argument-based approach to presenting validity evidence for assessment items intended to measure a complex construct. Our focus is developing a measure of teachers’ ability to analyze and respond to students’ mathematical thinking for the purpose of program evaluation. Our validity argument consists of claims addressing connections between our item-development process and the theoretical model for the construct we are trying to measure: attentiveness. Evidence derived from theoretical arguments in conjunction with our multiphased item-development process is used to support the claims, including psychometric evidence of Rasch model fit and category ordering. Taken collectively, the evidence provides …

Use Of Multimedia In The Teaching And Learning Of Poetry In English In A Public Secondary, School In Migori County, Kenya: An Action Research, Monica A. Odhiambo
Master of Education
The modern technological innovations are reshaping the educational landscape, influencing the pedagogical practices in today’s classrooms. In the 21st century, it is irrelevant to insist on conventional methods of teaching, which perpetuate teacher-centered pedagogy and use of print-based materials as the primary resources to facilitate the teaching and learning process. Consequently, teachers are rethinking the way they should teach vis-a-vis the way their students should learn. Multimedia has become one of the popular technological tools used to improve the teaching and learning process. The use of multimedia presentations offer students differentiated avenues to access curriculum content in their own preferred …

Using play in enhancing learning for pre primary children is among the major technique in teaching and learning process in early years. Children‘s understanding is enhanced through play where their way of thinking and seeing things become more active. This turns out to be more meaningful when play is utilized to develop numeracy skills in children because they develop concept of numbers, competency in various skills including mastery of mathematics. On the other hand, the findings indicate that the use of play has become a challenge in Nachingwea Preschools due to teachers’ inability to use play in their teaching practices. …

A Critical Review Of Postfeminist Sensibility, S. Riley, A. Evans, S. Elliott, C. Rice, Jeanne Marecek
Psychology Faculty Works
This paper critically reviews how feminist academic psychologists, social scientists, and media scholars have developed Rosalind Gill's generative construct “postfeminist sensibility.” We describe the key themes of postfeminist sensibility, a noncoherent set of ideas about femininity, embodiment, and empowerment circulating across a range of media. Ideas that inform women's sense of self, making postfeminist sensibility an important object for psychological study. We then consider research that drew on postfeminist sensibility, focusing on new sexual subjectivities, which developed analysis of agency, empowerment, and the possibilities and limitations in taking up new subjectivities associated with postfeminism, as well as who could take …

Spendthrift trusts which shield assets from creditors have been an ongoing problem for the law since their advent in the nineteenth century. Other, very recent, forms of trust are an even bigger problem: they take the notion of asset protection much farther, allowing settlors to protect not only the beneficiary’s assets, but their own, from creditors; these are called “self-settled asset protection trusts". Moreover, more and more states allow so-called “dynasty trusts” which allow settlors and beneficiaries to maintain assets in trust tax free for generations, overturning long-settled principles of the common law such as the Rule Against Perpetuities. This article provides preliminary analysis of an empirical study of nearly 500 wills probated in Alachua and Escambia Counties in the State of Florida in 2013. The particular focus of the study is to determine if there are noticeable patterns of property distribution preferences among decedents based on their diverse family relationships. Earlier empirical studies of distribution preferences indicated that a majority of married decedents wanted to give all or most of their estates to their surviving spouses. As a result of these studies, most states amended their probate codes to give surviving spouses a sizable percentage of a decedent …
